Infected blood scandal victim Mel McKay shares her story.
Transcript
00:00A woman from Bridlington, Mel McKay, was among some of the 4,000 people who were given transfusions
00:07in the 70s and 80s. This blood was later discovered to be infected with hepatitis and HIV. As
00:16a young girl, Ms McKay was given a transfusion following an open heart surgery and was left
00:22HIV positive.
00:24I'm overwhelmed by the announcement of the final report and its conclusion that there
00:33was a large scale of wrongdoing between the pharmaceutical companies, the NHS and the
00:42government. And it's brilliant to finally have it on, black and white, when we already
00:50knew what had gone wrong. And with the prospect of a compensation scheme, that is also incredible
01:06news to hear, finally have recognition into this historic event.
