JJ Redick is a legit candidate for the Lakers head -- despite never having spent a minute on the bench -- and Byron Scott isn't sold on the idea quite yet!

00:00 Reports are saying JJ Redick is a serious candidate for the Lakers job.
00:05 Do you think he could be a good fit?
00:08 It's a good question.
00:10 JJ has no coaching experience whatsoever.
00:12 And it's hard jumping in that seat as a first time head coach.
00:16 I look at some of the other players who played in this league.
00:19 Steve Nash is a guy that comes to mind who played in the NBA, never had any coaching
00:24 experience and it didn't work out real well in Brooklyn for him.
00:26 So it's a tough, tough job and it's really even tougher for guys who've never had any
00:31 coaching experience.
00:32 Do you think he has what it takes though?
00:35 I don't know.
00:36 You know why?
00:37 Because I don't know JJ.
00:38 I know he has some respect in the league.
00:41 He's got respect with his podcast and things of that nature.
00:44 But I don't know if he has what it takes to be a great head coach in the NBA.
00:48 But again, if he gets that opportunity, we'll find out real soon.
00:51 My advice would be get you a bunch of great assistant coaches.
00:55 Because they can really alleviate a lot of the pressure and a lot of the things that
01:00 you're going to be facing as a first time head coach.
01:02 So get you some great assistant coaches.
01:05 Okay, that's some good advice.
01:06 I mean, being that JJ and LeBron have a podcast together, do you think that this can help
01:13 with the chemistry between them?
01:14 If he does get the job?
01:17 Oh, absolutely.
01:18 I think they have chemistry and they have a relationship.
01:20 So being on the podcast together, you know they spend time together, so they get to know
01:24 each other pretty well.
01:25 So I think that would only help him as far as being a head coach, having that type of
01:29 chemistry with the star player.
01:31 Would you be interested in serving on his staff?
01:34 Because he needs a person with experience.
01:38 Person with experience, person who's won, person who's been coached a year, won NBA
01:44 championship.
01:45 You know what?
01:46 I don't know.
01:47 That might be.
01:48 We'll see.
01:49 That's a good question.
01:50 It could be a possibility.
01:51 It could be a possibility.
01:52 Okay, I mean, I don't know.
01:53 Who else do you think would be a good fit for this?
01:54 You know, I want to know, who do you think would be a good fit for this coaching position?
02:03 As far as a head coach?
02:04 Yeah.
02:05 Oh, for me there's two names that come to mind.
02:08 Sam Cassell, who's been a long time assistant for probably almost 20 years now.
02:13 Everywhere he's been, he's been a very vital impact on the players that have been in that
02:17 organization.
02:18 And Mark Jackson.
02:20 Mark Jackson's a guy who coached in Golden State, hasn't got an opportunity to coach
02:23 again for whatever reason.
02:26 But you're talking about two guys right there that I think would be great fits.
