Famous Ingle gym in Wincobank which has produced boxing world champions is working with children in a local school
Transcript
00:00 Eindhuis Secondary School in North East Sheffield is only a mile away from the famous Ingle Boxing Gym
00:07 and thanks to a foundation named after the gym's iconic founder, pupils don't need to leave the school to learn about the sweet science.
00:15 The weekly sessions are delivered by Andy Nice, who continues the good work of Brendan.
00:23 The Brendan Ingle Foundation is important to the local community for a number of reasons. A) for a starting point there's a lack of youth provision in the area
00:32 so Brendan delivered his sightedness boxing in this area and we want to continue doing that in the area.
00:42 But these classes are not all about boxing. They also provide important life lessons to the kids, something that Brendan was always passionate about.
00:52 Eindhuis was the school of two of the city's finest world champions in Prince Nazim Hamad and Kid Galahad.
01:00 But the Brendan Ingle Foundation aren't here to find the city's next world champion.
01:04 The foundation's vision is to make bad kids good and good kids even better.
01:10 And as the late great Brendan used to say, if you don't have an education, someone will always control your life.
01:18 One of Brendan's disciples is Amir Khan, a former pupil at Eindhuis who used to get into trouble before Brendan's guidance.
01:25 But the former boxer turned coach has had a successful life both in and out of the ring and is now back at the school to teach others.
01:34 It's the usual things you get with boxing, it's discipline and fitness but what we're trying to teach is a little bit more than that.
01:43 It's about life and social skills and making the kids think about when they leave school, where they're going to go.
01:52 And whilst the foundation might not be looking for the next Prince Naz, they might just have found him.
01:58 Tom Burke for the Sheffield Star.
02:00 field star.
