00:00 The absolute divorce bill has been approved in the third and final reading of the House of Representatives.

00:05 131 members of the House of Representatives voted in favor, 109 abstained, and 20 abstained.

00:11 One of the abstainers is the current Executive Representative Rufus Rodriguez.

00:16 He opposed the Constitution that states that marriage is the foundation of a family and should be protected by the state.

00:24 Representative Edsel Agman, one of the members of the House of Representatives, said that divorce is important for spouses whose relationship is not in order.

00:34 Some of the grounds of absolute divorce are extramarital affairs or having other relations besides the wife while still married,

00:44 abuse, and drug use, alcohol or gambling.

00:48 It is also possible for a couple to separate if there is abuse in the relationship, which is the reason why some Filipinos favor divorce.

00:55 The new CBCP is also trying to get the old rules on divorce.

01:01 The same resolution should be passed in the Senate before it becomes law.

01:07 The Philippines and Vatican City are the only countries in the world where divorce is not allowed.
