00:00 On another matter, last Thursday, the Biden administration announced its plan to sacrifice
00:09 yet another source of affordable, reliable American energy on the altar of climate activism.
00:19 After years of freezes and bans on onshore and offshore oil and gas leasing, the administration's
00:26 latest attempt to appease Democrats' radical base is a ban on new coal leasing in Powder
00:33 River Basin of Wyoming and Montana.
00:38 This region is responsible for producing nearly half of the nation's coal.
00:43 Last year alone, the basin created more than 250 million tons of coal and employs more
00:49 than 4,000 people.
00:52 Shutting off development will result in lost jobs and millions of dollars of lost revenue
00:59 for Montana and Wyoming.
01:03 The skin of the administration's war on coal is one Kentuckians know all too well, and
01:10 working families across the country are already struggling with persistent inflation.
01:17 Energy prices alone have risen more than 40 percent since President Biden took office.
01:23 But Washington Democrats' radicalism may have finally stretched their own party to
01:27 the breaking point.
01:29 In fact, the Biden administration's war on affordable, reliable American energy has proven
01:36 so radically harmful to consumers, workers, and our global competitiveness that it's facing
01:43 bipartisan opposition right here in the Senate.
01:48 Just yesterday, a bipartisan majority passed Senator Cruz's resolution disapproving of
01:54 the Department of Energy's new rule to effectively ban affordable natural gas home furnaces.
02:02 This rule would signify an increase in the existing efficiency standard and effectively
02:10 ban the sale of more affordable home heating furnaces that don't need it.
02:15 By one estimate, this rule will heap as much as $4 billion in new costs onto consumers
02:25 who already can't afford the high costs of the Biden economy.
02:31 The American people have suffered enough from Bidenomics to the Green New Deal.
02:37 I'm glad a majority of the Senate agrees it's time to slam the brakes on the administration's
02:42 assault on gas appliances.
02:46 And I'm thankful to my colleague Senator Cruz for bringing attention to this madness.
