Meet the Cane Corsos of Blackpool

A dog who was thrown away because she refused to fight has gone on her first public outing - with a group of Cane Corsos!  The walk was organised to raise awareness of safety and how to be a responsible owner of this powerful breed - as they become one of the most searched-for dogs on Google. 00:00I'm a kennel manager at Tsukima Sanctuary, one every hour in Presoil. This is one of our dogs,

00:05Hennessy. She's been with us going on 10 months now. She was supposed to be a fighting dog.

00:14In the fighting ring they trained her to attack tyres, wooden posts, etc. And then someone

00:21supposedly rescued her from that because they cropped her ears and used her as a breeding

00:26machine. She was supposedly rescued by a gentleman who then put her on his balcony for two years

00:31and gave her sticks as entertainment to rip up and shred instead of walking her. He brought her

00:37to us and she didn't trust a single person and I think it took maybe three months in total

00:44to get her used to all the staff. So yeah, she's come on miles and this is her first big sort of

00:53step outside of the kennels. We're here to join the Cane Corso walk that's been so kindly set up

01:01and meets new people, walk alongside other dogs and just get some exposure outside of the kennels

01:07where she's been for the past 10 months. Today is the Blackpool Cane Corso dog walk that we do

01:13quarterly. Basically the emphasis of the walk is to make people aware of the breed,

01:20responsible dog walking. It's quite a new breed to the UK,

01:23big powerful breed so we just all align, we share information, we've got a Facebook page

01:29and we're passionate about our dogs and we like to go to different areas and do these meetups and

01:32try and socialise our dogs in all these social situations on the street, on the beach, on parks

01:37and all that lot and that's what we do effectively. They're getting very popular, they've only taken

01:43off recently in the last couple of years. With the Bully XL band, people are sort of leaning

01:50towards getting a Cane Corso now because it's not a band breed per se, so it's the third most

01:56searched dog on the internet now after Frenchies and Dash Hounds. Once she's bonded to someone,

02:02she adores them forever but we're looking for someone with no young kids because she is big,

02:09she may not look it compared to some of these guys but she's strong and she's powerful

02:14and she'll be fine with just a nice couple or a single person that's willing to commit

02:22to what she needs from life and show her that she can enjoy life because she never has.

02:28She walks great with other male dogs at kennels, she seems to get along with them great but it's

02:36the same dogs again and again so I'm hoping that more events like this,

02:41we can come get the word out and join other people.
