Transcript
00:0010 May 1924, 100 years ago, John Hagar Hoover became head of the FBI, who would hold this
00:11post until the end of his days. John Hagar Hoover was an American statesman who served
00:19as director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation for almost half a century. From 1924 until
00:27his death in 1972, heading the Bureau of Investigation renamed the FBI in 1935. At the age of 29,
00:37Hoover survived the Great Depression, Roosevelt's reform, World War II, the early stage of the
00:45Cold War, the Korean and Vietnam War, always being one of the most influential figures
00:52in the United States. While noting John Hoover's services to the country, many accused him
01:00of numerous abuses of power. The contradiction of his figure and the extraordinary length
01:07of his tenure became the reason that, after him, the maximum term of service for FBI director
01:17was set at 10 years.
