Transabdominal Preperitoneal (TAPP) inguinal hernia repair is a minimally invasive laparoscopic procedure used to correct inguinal hernias. The surgeon makes small incisions in the abdomen to insert a laparoscope and surgical instruments. The peritoneum (lining of the abdominal cavity) is opened to access the hernia. The herniated tissue is pushed back into place, and a synthetic mesh is placed over the defect to reinforce the abdominal wall. The peritoneum is then closed, securing the mesh. This approach allows for a clear view of the hernia site, minimal postoperative pain, and a quicker recovery compared to open surgery.
