00:00 I am as far beyond mutants as they are beyond you. Here's a look at the Diamond
00:04 Select Marvel Select Apocalypse collector's action figure with
00:07 accessories.
00:10 Born in the small Egyptian settlement of Aqaba almost 5,000 years ago, the being
00:34 originally dubbed An-Sobhanor was the world's first known mutant. Noor struggled
00:38 throughout the countless ordeals all the while formulating an ideology akin to
00:41 survival of the fittest. Using advanced alien celestial technology as well as
00:46 his own almighty mutant powers, Noor became the mighty conqueror Apocalypse,
00:49 influencing history throughout the ages and re-emerging in the modern era to
00:53 wreak havoc alongside his chosen harbingers, the Horsemen. Marvel's Select
00:57 Action Figure of Apocalypse is based on his appearance in Marvel Comics. It
01:00 includes interchangeable hands and features 16 points of articulation. It was
01:03 designed by Eamon O'Donoghue, sculpted by Gentle Giant Limited. I know with the
01:08 lifespan that he's had, Noor needs no introduction. So we'll jump right to
01:11 taking the tape measure and seeing how tall the figure stands. Though just
01:14 before of course doing that, I'd like to thank the folks over at Diamond Select
01:17 once again that did provide the sample of the Marvel Select Apocalypse. Now we
01:20 could have a look at this review. The figure is available right now in comic
01:23 book stores or online if you prefer your purchases to be online. The
01:27 figure is though going to stand about nine inches in height. In fact, actually
01:31 looking at him he seems to be exactly nine inches in height. And that
01:34 translates to a figure that's 22 and a half centimeters tall. We have big, we
01:39 have small. Bringing first a couple of average-sized Marvel Select figures so
01:42 you can see the differences the sizes there. Here's what the figure looks like
01:44 though to the left. Captain America to the right. Mr. Fantastic. Bringing those
01:48 slightly bigger boys, here's what the figure looks like with a recently looked
01:51 at Marvel Select Red Hulk. And of course if ever given the chance I'll always
01:54 bring him in. Here's what the figure looks like, though unfortunately was
01:57 still with loose legs. Here's what he looks like with Juggernaut. I do like the
02:01 choice of accessories that Diamond chose here for Apocalypse. Not only can the
02:04 character in the comics increase his size, but he can also as well alter the forms on
02:08 the ends of his forearms. Adding additional weapons for example. And they
02:11 thought that ahead by including three different things that you can swap out
02:14 with the existing forearms that he has right now. Backing up though just a
02:17 little bit if you did want to just at least change his hands. Apocalypse also
02:20 comes in clear with a pair of closed fists. Not the most interesting of things to
02:24 look at, especially when we look at the next several things. But closed fists
02:27 still go a long way, especially if you want to have him posed on display
02:30 perhaps battling the X-Men. These just simply pop out from the existing hands
02:34 that he has right now. You just pop those off from the forearms. You just replace
02:37 them off with these ones. I'm not gonna really do that. I'm just gonna move these
02:39 off to the side though. Let's get to more of the interesting things. Now again
02:43 Apocalypse can change the things on the ends of his arms, so they also thought
02:46 that ahead by including things like a drill attachment. The drill is actually
02:50 just gonna swap out. So what we're gonna do actually... you know what we'll do this
02:52 right now. Instead of removing the hand that you would normally have done if you
02:56 want to change for example to the fist, what you'll do instead is commit to the
02:59 idea of taking off the forearm completely. This just detaches by the
03:03 peg. You can see there's the hole on the inside of that. I'm just gonna remove
03:06 that all in entirely. And then from there you can just add the new drill
03:09 attachment. One thing I should have really done though before I actually did
03:12 this... popping this first in place... put the figure down here for a second... if we
03:18 go back to looking at his forearm, one thing you may have already noticed is
03:20 the fact he does have these hoses on the back of his body. These hoses though will
03:24 plug into the sides of his forearms via this hole right here. I'll do it on this
03:28 side so you guys can see what I'm talking about. You take the back of the
03:31 hose here, which is about the only thing I would have changed differently here to
03:34 Apocalypse. It's nice that they gave it as much of a length as they did, but I
03:38 feel like that the density of the plastic is too hard. You should have made
03:42 it a little bit softer so that if for example you wanted to move his arm
03:45 around for example, you're not gonna have to fight as much with a harder bit of
03:48 plastic. Though this does plug into the little provided hole on the sides of his
03:52 forearm. Now again Apocalypse does have that. But every time you want to move
03:55 then his arm around, you want to move it out for example, or especially forward,
03:59 you can really feel like it starts to get tight. Even though there really is a
04:02 lot of clearance allotted here, just because the plastic is so thick and
04:06 dense, a lot of times it just unpegs itself from the forearm. Now that's with
04:10 the arm that he has default out of the packaging. You may then be asking
04:13 yourself, "well what about the drill?" Well actually the drill does have that too. If
04:17 you look on the side here, so we want to kind of spin this around this way, on the
04:20 back there is also again that hole so you can take yourself to provide a hose
04:23 and plug that in place too. That's the same case also as well when it comes to
04:27 his hook. The clawing tool that he has as well, very nicely detailed, still making
04:32 use of this metallic blue finish with some a nice additional silver accents
04:36 added in there as well. You'll see also that it does have that same hole. So
04:40 you're just gonna again replace it with it. Now again you don't have to
04:43 necessarily have it on both sides where he has wielding weapons on both sides, but
04:46 if you wanted to, again you just pop the hands off. You want to do that? Okay we'll
04:50 do that. Detaching this from the side of his arm, we're just gonna take that off
04:53 completely. Plugging now in the claw tool, there we go, and then you're just gonna
04:58 take again the hose and it's gonna plug in place like that. So he basically has
05:01 the means to attach everything on to his new forearms except for one thing, this.
05:06 He does have again like this mace weapon. Now this is unlike gonna be unlike the
05:11 forearms. You're not gonna actually replace it with the forearms exactly.
05:14 What you're gonna do instead is you're gonna take one of the forearms and you're
05:17 gonna just only remove the hand. Just attach it like that. This is now gonna
05:21 replace with one of the hands. I'm just gonna plug it in place like this. Then
05:25 you're basically just gonna remove one of the forearm pieces or again in this
05:27 case either the drill or the claw tool. You're gonna replace it with the ball
05:31 mace instead. Love those accessories. I think though when it comes to displaying
05:36 Apocalypse, might maybe just decide to have him display with maybe one weapon
05:40 on one side because I think that's almost a little overkill to have him
05:43 out with it on both sides of his body. But I do like the idea that they include
05:46 as many accessories as they did. Considering really as well that this
05:49 figure is a pretty tall character, there's a lot more plastic that goes
05:52 into say the likes of Apocalypse that it would have gone in for example to like
05:56 Captain America for example. Speaking though of his size, something that carries
06:01 over from the earlier looked at Red Hulk. Despite his size though he's actually
06:05 misleadingly light. He still has weight to him. I mean obviously if you're gonna
06:09 be comparing him say with the likes of Captain America which just happens to be
06:11 another Marvel select figure I had on the on the ready, Captain obviously is
06:15 notably a lot lighter. He is gonna be heavier from the size from the standpoint
06:19 of his size but he's not as heavy for example as earlier Marvel select figures.
06:23 We're talking like 10 years or so ago when we did do the review of the Red
06:26 Hulk for example I mentioned that the one from 2008 would have had probably a
06:30 lot heavier of a plastic. The Thing and the Juggernaut for that matter, even like
06:34 Juggernaut that I had brought in just now, is a lot heavier a figure even
06:38 though he's smaller of a size. So they seem to be using a different type of
06:41 plastic. Head sculpt wise though the only other thing I would say for Juggernaut
06:45 though is I'm not as crazy of a fan when it comes to the face that they chose to
06:49 go with it. Now for Apocalypse here, Apocalypse tends to have
06:54 that trademark face that he has where again the lips is like this and then it
06:58 kind of curves up the sides. Instead of doing that and just giving him his
07:02 closed lips like this, they often instead to kind of give him a grimaced face. I
07:06 think it loses a little of that that trademark look to Apocalypse by giving
07:11 him the visible teeth. I would have rather instead I think giving him just a
07:14 closed mouth instead just giving him that kind of proper looking powerful
07:18 look that Apocalypse has in the comics. But I think the teeth, I mean it works
07:21 okay. It does give him a chance as well to showcase some really stellar looking
07:25 sculpting and equally well painted face sculpt. The only thing again about it
07:29 though is it loses a little something of what I consider Apocalypse to be just
07:32 because whenever I think of the character I tend to only think of
07:36 him usually with his lips closed like this. Still though for what it is it's a
07:39 nice looking head sculpt. I think they've really nailed a perfect looking color
07:42 scheme for not only his head but the rest of his body as well. His eyes are
07:46 somewhat darker. They almost appear to be a more of a dark rusted red. Then his
07:50 pupils are very bright yellow and they pop really well with the color that they
07:54 chose for his face. All around though the face does look good. I just would have
07:58 rather had the mouth closed myself but that's all personal preference. For the
08:02 rest of the figure's body it's classic looking Apocalypse down to the fact he
08:05 even has the trademark "A" there on the front of his belt. Colors I think they
08:08 chose are really good on this figure. You got the mixture of lighter blues. There's
08:12 some gray based blues there also as well. He's got also that little I don't even
08:16 know like a grate or a little plate that he has on the front of his
08:19 collar piece here that's also painted there nicely in silver. All in all it's a
08:23 good looking figure. The only thing I would have again said outside of my own
08:27 personal preference of having the mouth more closed is I do wish though
08:30 that the hoses were a little bit looser. Had they used maybe like a thinner or
08:34 more rubbery kind of plastic I know it would be a little bit more susceptible
08:37 to probably breaking right around here and probably even right here. Just though
08:41 when it comes to moving his arms around and you'll see really when I start to
08:44 move his arms about it feels like there's a lot of stuff pulling the arms
08:47 back down. I mean it also helps too that the joints just have to be really really
08:51 tight in the shoulders but even just moving his arm out like this you can see
08:55 how easy it was for that hose to remove. If you can also see too like there's
08:58 enough give going on here so you may even just have to bring the arm forward
09:02 and then bring the hose up and attach it back in place because doing it and
09:07 having it in the arm in the default and then just moving the arm around you're
09:10 probably going to be popping that hose off in the process. For the figure's
09:14 articulation going back to Apocalypse's head, head's gonna be on a ball joint so
09:18 it's gonna rotate I would say normally all the way around but just because he's
09:21 got this collar piece it's gonna make things a little bit more haphazard for
09:24 that. Head's gonna look down, head's gonna look up and you can also move it back and
09:28 forth as well. As for the shoulders this is the part again where you're gonna
09:31 have problems with the hose. The shoulders do allow really the arms to
09:34 rotate all the way around although they are a little on the tighter side you can
09:38 also hinge as well the arms out. Fully at 90 degrees maybe not quite that maybe a
09:42 little less than that. The figure does have a bicep swivel, a single hinge only
09:46 in the elbow and then again the elbow also rotates at the forearm there. If you
09:50 have say for example chosen the drill attachment that will rotate here. If you
09:54 though chose to go back to the idea of using the forearms being that they plug
09:57 in the exact same way it also is going to give you the same swiveled point. The
10:01 only thing he loses here is he has no additional articulation on the drill. If
10:05 he had still the hand for example you'd be able to rotate the hand back and
10:08 forth on the end of the the arm guard or the end of his glove. For the top of his
10:13 torso Apocalypse does have an upper torso ball joint. He does seem to have as
10:17 well a lower torso swivel although it's really tight in this figure. The legs do
10:22 split out. They're on ball joints. You can take the legs and move them forward. You
10:25 can move them back. There is a swivel and the swivel is about three quarters the
10:29 way up the thigh. You can see it right there. Maybe you can actually
10:33 rotate on this side. This leg is just a lot tighter. So there's a
10:38 three-quarter of the way swivel cut there in the thigh. The figure does have
10:41 a single hinge in the knee. It allows the lower leg to rotate back and forth and
10:44 then it comes to the ankles you can also move them back and forth and rock them
10:48 back and forth this way as well. The figure does have of course like usually
10:51 with Marvel Select figures pegs on the bottoms of his feet. So if you want to
10:54 make use of a display stand you certainly can even though the figure
10:57 doesn't come included with one. I like the look of Apocalypse. Positive points
11:01 though are that he's tall. I mean obviously if you're gonna want an
11:04 Apocalypse figure you really want him to be towering over for example other
11:08 normal-sized Marvel Select figures. Once again we'll just bring in Captain America
11:10 for a size comparison. I really should have had some Marvel Select X-Men figures
11:14 to bring in for comparisons. Yeah Apocalypse should be the size that he is
11:18 and I think they've nailed the size scale there. Colors are good. Colors are
11:22 classic obviously when it comes to Apocalypse. The only thing I would say is
11:25 two things. I'm not a big fan really of the big visible teeth on his
11:30 mouth. I would have just preferred to have the mouth closed myself. That's my
11:33 own personal preference. You may feel you like the idea of the mouth being visible.
11:36 Hey that's on you. The only other thing I would certainly say too is also making
11:40 the hoses just a little bit more pliable.
11:43 Being that they could have used a softer plastic may have also
11:47 helped as well to be able to have those go along for the ride when it comes to
11:50 moving his arms. What you might ultimately have to do is what I showed
11:53 you in this review is move the arm first then bring the hose around and reattach
11:57 it. Because if you start down here with the arm already attached and you go to
12:00 move the arm up you might find those hoses pop off way too frequently. And
12:04 here I am talking about overkill only then to augment both the arms of
12:08 Apocalypse here as we wrap up the review. Having the drill on one side the claw
12:11 tool on the other. You can also see as well I've taken the hoses and attached
12:15 those accordingly. The hoses are one thing that always fall off frequently. I
12:19 guess in a way that's a safety precaution because if they were
12:22 permanently or more securely attached then if you were to say move the arm and
12:26 maybe like the plastic wasn't going to give way, there always could be a potential
12:30 that the plastic hoses could break. I do wish though and it's something I still
12:34 said in the review that the plastic that they use for the hoses would have been a
12:37 softer variety. I would imagine that they're probably not going to be. I mean
12:40 the way that they've attached the hoses clearly look like they're part of the
12:43 mold. I can't see a section where they would have attached on the back of the
12:47 belt. So they obviously would have used all the same plastic that the rest of
12:51 the casting of the figure's body would have been. But still softer plastic would
12:55 have really helped much handier. Especially if you want to move the arms
12:58 around you're not going to always have those hoses pop off. Again it's probably
13:01 best advised just to move the arms first, reattach the hoses and display
13:05 Apocalypse that way. What do you guys think of the figure? Let me know down
13:08 below in the comment section. Nice looking Apocalypse. You know seeing how
13:12 well they've done on a job for Apocalypse and then having already
13:14 looked at a pretty cool looking Red Hulk. One other figure I would love to see
13:18 them approach. Have they approached yet a Mr. Sinister? I think Mr. Sinister would
13:22 be a fantastic figure. Courtesy of the folks over at Diamond Select. What other
13:25 characters? Doesn't have to be necessarily from the X-Men universe.
13:27 Would you like to see Diamond approach next for a Marvel Select release? Let me
13:31 know down below in the comments. In the meantime though I'd like to
13:35 thank the folks over at Diamond Select that did provide the sample of the
13:37 brand-new Marvel Select Apocalypse. We had the chance to have a look in this
13:40 review. Good news, good news, good news. This guy's available right now in comic
13:45 book stores and good news he's also available online. Pick your poison as to
13:49 which way you normally buy for your figures. I usually like to go to local
13:52 stores but not always is the case that they have new Marvel Select figures. So a
13:56 lot of times I usually have to order them online. If you guys though in the
13:58 meantime enjoyed this video, I want to throw out a like. If you guys are loving the
14:01 content you guys are seeing and you like to stick around for more, please, thank
14:05 you. Make sure you hit that subscribe button down below and you're turning on
14:08 the bell notification. We're gonna have a lot more videos coming your way guys. So
14:11 as always thanks for watching. See you guys next time.
