00:00 Hello, I'm Gill Buchanan, the editor of the Falkirk Herald, and I'm here to tell you about
00:05 some of the stories that are making the headlines in our print edition which is on sale now.
00:10 The family of a 92-year-old who was sent a summary warrant on behalf of Falkirk Council
00:14 contacted us. We revealed the bill was for council tax for sheltered housing that the
00:19 women had never lived in, as the council took so long to carry out repairs, including having
00:25 to redo the work that was botched by the first workmen. Her family wanted to tell their story
00:29 to highlight how they were treated in the hope that the same thing doesn't happen to
00:33 others. Meetings are currently taking place to give parents more information on Falkirk
00:38 Council's plans to reduce the time that pupils are in the classroom, but petition against
00:44 the proposal has already gained hundreds of signatures. A special hearing about plans
00:50 for new homes in Denny Lone Head heard that hedgehog hotels could be introduced to ensure
00:55 the project had an impact on wildlife in the area. And well done to two local bakers who
01:01 run Piece of Cake by Lucia and Luscious Lovelies Cakes following their success in the Scottish
01:07 Baker Awards. An unannounced visit by health inspectors confirmed what many people in this
01:14 area already knew - the care provided by Strathcairn Hospice is exceptional. We've picked your
01:21 galleries this week from Pizza in the Park, the Falkirk Science Festival events and our
01:25 high school sports teams. We've also another look at Rosebank Distillery as it prepares
01:32 to open to the public. Historian Ian Scott tells us more about the history of the now
01:38 hidden Eastburn. In sport, Commonwealth Games champion Alish McAlgan reckoned that losing
01:44 closure threat in Grangemire Stadium would be a crushing blow, saying that the facility
01:49 is the spiritual home of Scottish athletics. And congratulations to both Stennismoor Women
01:55 and Dunny Pace in winning their respective leagues. All these stories and lots more are
02:01 in a print edition which is on sale now and also at www.falkirkherald.co.uk. Thank you.
