Cardiff council have announced plans for a new action plan hoping to improve the lives of young people around the city. The focus of the plans will centre around young people in Caerau and Ely, where overnight rioting caused thousands of pounds worth of damage almost a year ago.

00:00 The night of the 22nd of May 2023 was one of the darkest in Ely's history.
00:07 Rioting caused damage to people's houses and cars with a number of arrests made after the

00:12 The harrowing scene started after the death of two teenage boys on an e-scooter allegedly
00:17 in a police chase in the daytime on the 22nd.
00:21 News went around the country and there has since been plenty of calls to improve the
00:24 lives of young people in the area after such a distressing situation unfolded.
00:29 Cardiff Council have now said they are going to implement an action plan targeting improving
00:34 the lives of young people in the area.
00:37 Roughly £2 million will be invested into the area on measures such as a new youth space,
00:41 employment support, mental health provisions and actions to prevent crime and antisocial
00:47 behaviour.
00:49 Cardiff Council leader Hugh Thomas says the whole scheme is about building bonds between
00:53 residents, organisations and authorities to build a stronger, more resilient community.
