00:00 [Mr. Gowdy] The gentleman from Georgia is now recognized for his questions.
00:03 [Mr. Gowdy] Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
00:08 I would just point out that I think those who talk about the cost savings, they are
00:15 not factoring in the increased cost of the appliance. I can tell you, as somebody who
00:19 has been shopping for an ice maker over the last several weeks, it cost today about twice
00:28 what it did just five years ago to buy one. One of the issues for the American consumer
00:33 today is a lot of the newer appliances can't be serviced the way the old appliances could
00:38 be. I can tell you, I don't get rid of my old appliances. I have a freezer that is 15
00:45 years old and I will repair it until it rusts all the way out because you can't repair a
00:50 lot of the new appliances at a reasonable cost.
00:59 I am not going to belabor this point. I am going to mention this to you, Mr. Blum, because
01:03 I want you to know why those of us, many of us who are conservationists, don't trust what
01:09 comes out of the far left in Washington, D.C. In my home State, they are cutting down thousands
01:18 of acres of forest land, thousands of acres of forest land that land was sold for significantly
01:25 more than it was actually worth because of the tax subsidies to put solar panels in.
01:32 Now, there is no way that a fact-based, decision-making environmentalist would suggest that it is
01:40 in the best interest of the environment to cut down the forest lands of this country
01:45 to put up solar panels. It is just not. That is why we don't trust what comes out of liberal
01:53 administrations. That is just an example. It is not your fault. I don't understand why
02:00 the Biden administration can't just leave us alone. I really don't. With that, I yield,
02:06 Mr. Chairman.
