00:03A Derbyshire quarry could operate for an extra 12 years, despite noise concerns in plans
00:09that have been sitting in limbo for more than six years.
00:12The plans, which have been filed by the Slinter Mining Company, could see Slinter Top Quarry,
00:17north-west of Cromford, extended by around six acres and operational for a further dozen
00:22years.
00:24Its plans were filed to Derbyshire County Council in 2017, but are only now set to be
00:29decided, with the authority's officials recommending approval.
00:33When the quarry owners had filed their plans in 2017, they said the site was scheduled
00:37to cease quarrying operations at the end of 2021, ahead of full restoration works being
00:42completed by 2032.
00:44It is applied now to extend quarrying to 2033, and to restore the site by 2037, with an extra
00:511.3 million tonnes of limestone to be mined at a rate of 100,000 tonnes a year.
00:56A total of 50 letters have been written to the County Council over the plans, with all
01:00but one objecting to the scheme.
