00:03 Let's begin with an uneventful night.
00:04 Sorry to say, just got to keep it real.
00:06 Uneventful night in the NBA last night.
00:09 I mean, two blowouts.
00:10 It happens.
00:10 Sometimes you're going to get that.
00:11 And hopefully tonight's Knicks-Patriots game is a little bit better.
00:14 Oklahoma City defeats Dallas.
00:17 Game wasn't close.
00:17 117 to 95 last night.
00:20 OKC was up throughout.
00:22 In fact, they were up pretty big at halftime as well.
00:24 Shea Gildress-Alexander, 29 points, nine rebounds, nine assists.
00:30 Just not a great night for Luka.
00:31 Didn't even get 20 points last night.
00:33 Of course, OKC covers the number of three and a half.
00:36 The total was 218 in this one.
00:38 And Dallas is probably going to have to look a lot better in game two than they
00:41 looked in game one.
00:42 My gosh, what happened last night in Oklahoma City?
00:44 Well, that was asked of, of course, point guard Kyrie Irving.
00:48 And exactly what it's like trying to defend SGA.
00:51 >> I mean, again, I'm going to show my respect to Shea first.
00:55 And he's a great player.
00:56 But tonight, in the first half, there wasn't really a rhythm for
01:01 a lot of players out there.
01:02 It was a lot of slow down, watch free throws be taken.
01:05 And it just, the way the game was being called,
01:08 it felt like the game was being called like a regular season game tonight.
01:11 That's just my perspective.
01:12 I don't speak for anybody else.
01:13 I don't want to get anybody else in trouble.
01:15 That's just my perspective.
01:15 I think that it was ref like a regular season game,
01:19 because we come off a very physical series against LA Clippers.
01:22 And then we have some of these fouls that are called.
01:25 And some of them may be fouls, right, or a majority of them.
01:27 But I think when you're out there as a competitor, and you just want the flow of
01:31 the game to feel like the playoffs and the physicality is up there,
01:33 it just feels a lot better.
01:36 But again, it's all about adjustments.
01:38 It's really just about continuing to stay positive through some of the runs that
01:42 they make and also being mature about who we're going against.
01:45 They're a good team.
01:46 They've shown it all year.
01:48 They have a starting five that has a plus minus to the roof.
01:51 I'm one of the top defenses.
01:52 So again, we're going to give them credit, but
01:54 we got to come in game two ready and prepared.
01:56 >> Dallas obviously has to look a lot better in game two against Oklahoma City,
02:01 as they have the night off tonight.
02:03 Well, the Cleveland Cavaliers needed seven games to defeat the Orlando Magic.
02:07 And boy, that is what showed last night.
02:09 Tired team as the Boston Celtics basically ran them out on offense.
02:13 They scored 120 points last night on Cleveland.
02:16 The final 120 to 95, an easy cover.
02:19 The line even crept up to 12 and a half over on the FanDuel Sportsbook.
02:24 But there was no stopping Jalen Brown.
02:26 One of the big surprises over the last couple of weeks in the playoffs has
02:29 been Derek White.
02:29 He had another 25 points yesterday.
02:31 Jason Tatum with a double-double, 18 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists.
02:36 But yes, it was Jalen Brown taking over the game many times throughout to get to
02:41 that 120 point mark.
02:43 Joe Mazzullo talked about how he has evolved as a star player in the league.
02:48 >> He takes a ton of pride in just growing as a player every year,
02:51 every game, every day.
02:53 Spends a lot of time on it.
02:54 He's not afraid to go after something that he knows he can improve on,
02:57 which I think is huge for his growth mindset.
02:58 And like you said, he has evolved.
03:00 His ability to pick and choose his spots, went to a play in transition.
03:03 He had a couple times where he scored in transition, and
03:05 two plays later he slowed it down, went mid-pick and roll, and
03:07 made the right play.
03:08 I think the growth of him, even if he scores six or eight in a row and
03:11 he gets into the pain, it's a pass on the next one.
03:14 So he's grown as a player, and it's helped us.
03:17 And he's playing big stretches for us, so it's important.
03:19 >> Similar line for game two with Boston 12.5,
03:24 13 point favorites over Cleveland coming up later this week.
03:28 Now also later this week, we're gonna finally get to game three of Denver and
03:32 Minnesota.
03:32 The good news for the Nuggets, even though they're down 0-2,
03:35 going to Minnesota, is Jamal Murray will be able to play in the game.
03:39 He was not issued a suspension, but was fined $100,000 for
03:44 tossing a heating pad in the direction of an official during the loss to
03:47 the Timberwolves.
03:49 It happened with four minutes and 41 seconds in the second quarter.
03:52 And naturally, this is not something that you can do and
03:55 generally avoid a fine, so he got fined 100 grand.
03:58 And by the way, he's been really, really rough.
04:01 Game two, eight points, three for 18 shooting.
04:03 I guess if I was in his spot, I would throw something too.
04:06 Just not at the referees, no doubt.
04:08 All right, bad news for the Knicks.
04:10 Mitchell Robinson gonna miss the rest of the playoffs.
04:12 He's been ruled out six to eight weeks with a stress injury to his left ankle.
04:17 Imaging confirmed the injury after playing just 12 minutes in game one
04:21 against the Indiana Pacers.
04:23 He's had this issue before in December with the Knicks hosting the Pacers tonight.
04:28 No Mitchell Robinson for now.
04:31 I would guess for the next round, and who knows as the NBA finals,
04:34 if they were to get that far, what happened in June.
04:37 Meanwhile, a Defensive Player of the Year award for the new papa, Rudy Gobert.
04:41 He wins it again, his fourth Defensive Player of the Year award,
04:46 tying an NBA record.
04:47 He won in 2018, 2019, and 2021 with the Utah Jazz,
04:53 and now joins Hall of Fame centers Dikembe Mutombo and Ben Wallace
04:58 as the only four-time winners.
05:00 Victor Wembaeyama, who was the Rookie of the Year,
05:03 finished second in the voting to Rudy Gobert.
05:07 Also, congratulations to Candice Parker, recently retired from the WNBA.
05:12 She's been named the new president of Adidas Women's Basketball.
05:16 Ten days after announcing her retirement, she was the first woman to receive a
05:20 signature shoe with Adidas back in 2010.
05:24 All right, for the first time ever, a betting company is a key sponsor for one
05:30 of the majors in golf, and this one is the upcoming PGA Championship.
05:35 They have inked a deal with ESPN Bet.
05:37 They've been officially named a sponsor.
05:39 The partnership is throughout 2026.
05:42 It's the PGA of America, and of course, Penn Entertainment.
05:46 Under the agreement, ESPN Bet is now the official sports betting sponsor
05:51 of the championship through 2026.
05:56 In addition, late word this morning, Ryan Garcia's win over Devin Haney was met
06:01 with a lot of skepticism once he tested positive for a PED, but on Wednesday,
06:05 veteran boxing reporter Dan Raphael reported this morning he has been cleared
06:10 of a potential positive drug test for a metabolite which derives
06:15 from a banned substance called nandrolone.
06:18 Never heard of any of this stuff, but naturally, those test results have
06:22 confirmed to be negative, so it looks like Garcia will end up keeping his victory.
06:28 In Major League Baseball, one of the hottest teams going right now has got
06:31 to be the Philadelphia Phillies.
06:33 Speaking of new dads, Bryce Harper had a baby less than a week ago.
06:37 What has he done?
06:37 He's hit a home run in every game since.
06:39 Three games in a row, the Phillies have the best record in baseball.
06:43 He had a grand slam, and the Phillies have won seven straight games.
06:46 The Blue Jays are falling apart completely, and the Phillies are headed the other way.
06:50 Meanwhile, Wilson Contreras last night, in case you missed this, was behind home plate.
06:55 JD Martinez was swinging the bat.
06:58 His backswing cracked Wilson Contreras in the left arm, and my goodness,
07:02 they reported this morning that it is fractured.
07:04 He's going to miss months of time.
07:07 He was placed on the injured list today, arguably the best hitter
07:10 on the Cardinals this season.
07:12 Gavin Lux is back with the Los Angeles Dodgers, of course,
07:15 after missing all of last season.
07:17 He hit a home run for the first time since 2022 last night off the Miami Marlins starter
07:23 Edward Cabrera as the Dodgers have taken the first two games of the series.
07:27 They'll play the third game today.
07:29 Four early afternoon baseball games today, including Angels and Pirates.
07:33 They start at 1230 Eastern after our show.
07:35 Blue Jays and Phillies, 1 o'clock Eastern.
07:38 Tigers Guardians at 1, and Mets Cardinals at 115 Eastern.
07:43 The schedules for the National Football League's upcoming season in 2024,
07:47 going to be released next week.
07:49 The date that we're looking at is May 15th.
07:52 We'll cover it for you next week here on the show.
07:54 More trouble for Rasheed Rice.
07:56 He's now a suspect in an alleged assault that injured a man in a Dallas nightclub
08:01 earlier this week.
08:02 Of course, he was in an accident in Dallas as well with a speeding or driving issue.
08:08 Rice has had all kinds of off-season issues, unfortunately, for him and could
08:11 potentially be already looking at a suspension before this alleged incident.
08:16 Tyler Boyd, former wide receiver of the Cincinnati Bengals, has a new home.
08:19 He signed with the Tennessee Titans.
08:22 It's a one-year deal, $4.5 billion.
08:25 National Hockey League held its lottery last night.
08:27 Congrats to the San Jose Sharks.
08:30 They own the number one pick in the upcoming NHL draft.
