We meet the cast and crew of The Responder
Transcript
00:00The hit TV show The Responder, which is based in Liverpool, is back.
00:04Former police officer and show creator Tony Schumacher
00:07says he feels lucky to be back for a second series.
00:10It was Jimmy McGovern who pointed to me and said you should write your life.
00:15And it was that, you know, it was right in front of me and I hadn't really recognised it.
00:20I was working on different projects and stuff and then suddenly it was that.
00:24And the minute he said it, it made perfect sense.
00:27You know, it also made perfect sense who I've been doing it, you know.
00:34Didn't necessarily make perfect.
00:36It did, it did because I wrote it for you, you know.
00:38And I always thought I was sure you were doing that role,
00:40not necessarily as a scouser, but I'm sure you're doing it in that role.
00:44And so, yeah, it's just blame Jimmy.
00:48Picking up six months later, PC Chris Carson, played by Martin Freeman,
00:52attempts to rebuild his life.
00:54We caught up with the cast and crew at a celebratory screening at Facted Liverpool.
00:59To be part of one series of this brand is a joy and to be part of two.
01:04Honestly, it feels like you've won the lottery, genuinely, because this isn't just any show.
01:09In my opinion, this is the best show to come out of Liverpool.
01:12And I think it's one of the best shows on the BBC.
01:16You know, I'm going to go out there and I'm going to say it.
01:18So it's a real joy to be part of and it's an honour, to be honest with you.
01:22The show's first series, which is filmed around Liverpool,
01:25was nominated for six BAFTA awards.
01:27You're representing the city and the amazing talents.
01:32There is the amazing writing, but it's also like the whole production team.
01:36It's weird when you come in and like 99% of the people are scousers.
01:40It's so lovely because like you're normally you're the token scouser anywhere
01:43and you go in and you're like, oh, it's like home.
01:46And I think that's what really translates on the show,
01:48is that you have that sense of family in the show.
01:51The second series hopes to continue with the success of the first,
01:54which saw 9.6 million viewers tune in to its first episode.
