We speak to the Head of Coram Family and Childcare to find out what they think about the changes to childcare in England.
Transcript
00:00 Yeah, so it's great to have more childcare funding. Childcare is an essential investment.
00:05 It allows parents to work and it gives children the best start in life and can put disadvantaged
00:12 children on a much more even playing field. For those families in March, for example,
00:18 Coram Family and Childcare's annual survey found that a part-time nursery place for a
00:23 child under two costs an average of £158 per week and that's up 7% since last year.
00:31 Those costs are simply unaffordable for many parents that we speak to, especially at a
00:36 time when so many other costs are rising and it can leave parents in a position where they
00:41 can't afford to work and they can't afford not to work. No child or parent should be
00:47 blocked out from accessing the support that they need and we really need to fix the problems,
00:53 ensure that the sector has adequate funding to meet those needs.
