Telstra has extended the deadline for its 3G network shutdown to August 31.
Transcript
00:00 So Telstra has decided to extend the closure of its 3G network by two months to August
00:06 31st.
00:07 We're doing that to give our customers more time to upgrade their devices.
00:11 We announced the closure of 3G network five years ago and we've made great progress since
00:18 then.
00:19 We have been upgrading our network to 4G capability where only 3G exists and we are 99% complete.
00:27 But we do realize that some of our customers, both individual and businesses, do need a
00:35 little bit more time to upgrade their devices from 3G only capability.
00:42 And I think it's important to realize that we're not only talking here about handsets
00:46 or Wi-Fi hotspots.
00:49 There are other devices like FBOS terminals, medical alert devices, and even machinery
00:55 that's connected to the 3G network like on-farm sensors and farm machinery that uses the 3G
01:00 network and those devices also need to be upgraded.
01:05 So even though we've extended our closure by two months, we need our customers to act
01:11 immediately.
01:12 So if you have an impacted device, you should have received some advice already directly.
01:18 However, if you are still unsure, you can use our SMS checker tool.
01:24 All you need to do is to text the digit 3 to 3498 and you'll get an immediate response
01:30 back telling you whether you've got a device that needs to be upgraded.
