00:00:00As a kid, I was like, money solves all problems, right?
00:00:02Which is not true, but it does solve a lot of problems.
00:00:05I was constantly running budgets and calculating our bills,
00:00:08what it was going to take to get our first house,
00:00:10buy the furniture, what the rent was going to be.
00:00:13If your child is in the same position at the same time, what advice do you give them?
00:00:21I was like, man, I got to have some income coming in while we build this.
00:00:24Otherwise, I'm going to have to go get a job
00:00:25and this is still just going to have to be a side hustle.
00:00:27My partner, Jeremy, and I, we decided, all right, here's what we're going to do.
00:00:31We're going to pay ourselves $500 a week.
00:00:33That's it.
00:00:33So I went from $150,000 a year to $20,000 a year.
00:00:39And I was like, when we get $100,000 in the bank, free and clear, total basis,
00:00:43no expenses, no taxes, nothing, then we'll give ourselves a raise.
00:00:48Then we'll have some capital to grow.
00:00:50We'll be able to build our sales team.
00:00:51We'll be able to do these things, right?
00:00:52And so that was what we stuck to, man.
00:00:54So we hustled in the basement until we had $100,000 in the bank account.
00:00:57And then we went and got our office space, started bringing other sales guys,
00:01:00started bringing in other coaches and training them.
00:01:02And it kind of flourished from there.

00:01:22Hey, it's my pleasure, brother.
00:01:23I'm super stoked to be here.
00:01:25I'm great.
00:01:26Well, I'm so thankful that you actually carved out time
00:01:28because before we get into you,
00:01:30I want to talk about why you're actually in San Diego right now.
00:01:33Yeah.
00:01:34You know, tell us.
00:01:35Well, like I was just telling you before we went on air,
00:01:38you know, we've had our podcast now for four years
00:01:41and it kind of turned into its own business, right?
00:01:44And so people kept asking for coaching, mentoring,
00:01:47just based on the messages that we're putting out there.
00:01:49And it formed our own little mastermind group
00:01:51because we're not one-on-one coaches.
00:01:53We've never done that, me and my partners.
00:01:55And we're like, well, what could we do?
00:01:57So we did the mastermind since we've been a part of them.
00:01:58We found a lot of value in that.
00:02:00And so the group of people that we have attracted from the podcast
00:02:05and now a full year of being in that mastermind
00:02:08is all just amazing humans, man.
00:02:10And as we were doing kind of a recap on last year's mastermind,
00:02:13they're like, man, we want to do something to really give back.
00:02:15We want to do something more humanitarian.
00:02:17And we've got a handful of like blue collar contractor type people.
00:02:21We've got investors.
00:02:22We've got real estate agents.
00:02:23We've got a wide variety of people.
00:02:25But two guys in our group build playgrounds for school systems down in Texas.
00:02:31One's in Houston.
00:02:32One's in Abilene, right?
00:02:35And so they were like, man, when we started kind of reaching out
00:02:40to where we could do some humanitarian,
00:02:42we found an orphanage in Rosarito just over the border from Tijuana
00:02:46or San Diego, Tijuana, the Rosarito.
00:02:48And so we found a school down there that they actually
00:02:51do have a playground.
00:02:52It's just very little.
00:02:53And it's kind of run down.
00:02:55And we're like, let's go in there.
00:02:57So we have like this $40,000 package, not including labor, just materials.
00:03:01And we're all going down to build it over the next couple of days.
00:03:03And then we're going to mastermind for a day as well.
00:03:05And we'll recap on that.
00:03:06So that's what's kind of brought us down into San Diego
00:03:09before we crossed the border.
00:03:10Well, that is such an awesome, awesome use of not only the resources
00:03:14that you guys have, but how better to build the relationship
00:03:16with your mastermind group by helping others.
00:03:18I mean, the bond that you guys are going to form doing that work
00:03:22and seeing the children and their faces light up
00:03:25and know that that's the impact you guys had.
00:03:28I mean, I think that there's a lot of cool ways that,
00:03:31and I've been a part of masterminds.
00:03:32I've been guests and I've never gotten the opportunity
00:03:35to participate in something like that.
00:03:37But I think that would be such a fun experience,
00:03:41both personally, but also just for the group itself.
00:03:45Because I feel like a lot of times when you leave a mastermind,
00:03:47you don't have that bond.
00:03:48Because there's not that one thing that you guys did together
00:03:51is a personal learning and development, right?
00:03:53Mastermind is a lot of time, it's an individual sport.
00:03:55Absolutely.
00:03:56Even though you're in a collective group,
00:03:57you go with the intent of growing your own.
00:03:59Absolutely.
00:04:00And I think that that's such an amazing thing.
00:04:02I hope you're going to be capturing a ton of that content.
00:04:04We are, we are.
00:04:05And like you just met my wife, my daughter, my sister.
00:04:08I brought them because I'm like, we've never done this.
00:04:10And it's something we've talked about for years.
00:04:12And it's like, you're right, man.
00:04:14Like you're always trying to get to this certain point
00:04:16in your wealth or whatever it is.
00:04:18Before you start giving back.
00:04:19And it's like, well, there's always some level
00:04:21you can be giving along the way, right?
00:04:23And so we've always wanted to do a humanitarian type project,
00:04:26even as just a family.
00:04:27And then like, I have a 21 year old down to a three year old.
00:04:31It seems like every five years I have another kid.
00:04:33And so every time we've gotten like my, for example,
00:04:36my last one, my five year old, he's seven now.
00:04:39But I'm like, hey, let's go do that trip.
00:04:41I think he's old enough now.
00:04:42We could go to Costa Rica.
00:04:43We could go wherever, somewhere, Mexico.
00:04:45And my wife's all into it.
00:04:47And then she's like, I'm pregnant.
00:04:48And it's like, oh, well, we don't want to go
00:04:49while you're pregnant or with a newborn
00:04:51or we want to wait till the kids are old enough.
00:04:53And so like, we've never actually done it.
00:04:54And so that's why I brought my 13 year old
00:04:57and my wife and my sister on this one.
00:04:59Cause I'm like, man, let's go enjoy this together.
00:05:01And they're going to get to experience it, right?
00:05:03Cause I'm sure that, you know, especially a 13 year old,
00:05:05she doesn't get to see dad in action
00:05:06as much as I'm sure she would like to.
00:05:08And to see you helping to build that orphanage,
00:05:12not orphanage, playground for the orphanage.
00:05:16Those are the things that are going to stay with her,
00:05:18you know, cause we all talk about money.
00:05:20And I'm, you know, I'm sure your children
00:05:23don't appreciate money yet.
00:05:25Cause like mine, I mean, she's 13.
00:05:26So their understanding of money isn't there
00:05:29until they become an adult and really realize
00:05:31what impact having resources does.
00:05:34You know, one of my mentors, actually,
00:05:36when we talked about it a little bit off air,
00:05:38Dave Meltzer, you know, he used to teach me,
00:05:41I always wanted to be rich.
00:05:42I mean, full disclosure, like even as a kid,
00:05:44I liked shiny things.
00:05:45I want to be able to buy and go.
00:05:47And I looked at it as freedom.
00:05:49And he used to have this motto
00:05:51and he's changed it over the years,
00:05:53but it used to be help a lot of people,
00:05:55have a lot of fun and make a lot of money in that order
00:05:57when I was mentoring with him.
00:05:58And then over the years, he changed it
00:06:00to now it's make a lot of money,
00:06:02have a lot of fun, help a lot of people.
00:06:04And I asked him once, I said,
00:06:06why did you change the order of the sequence?
00:06:08Cause to me, it felt very selfish.
00:06:10It went from helping people first to making money first.
00:06:13And he said, if I don't make enough money,
00:06:15I can't help enough people.
00:06:16Exactly.
00:06:17And when he said it at first, I was like,
00:06:19but then it hit me like a wave.
00:06:21Yeah. No, no, no.
00:06:22It's 100% true.
00:06:23We all want to help.
00:06:25And you know how you know this is true
00:06:26is because when you talk about
00:06:28like the lottery gets to like $2 billion,
00:06:31and everyone's now got a lottery ticket
00:06:33and you say, what are you going to do
00:06:33if you win $2 billion?
00:06:34The first thing everyone almost says
00:06:36is help somebody else.
00:06:37I'm going to buy my mom a house.
00:06:38I'm going to take care of my family.
00:06:40I'm going to give all my friends millions.
00:06:41We all want to do it.
00:06:43We just don't have the resources.
00:06:44It's true.
00:06:45And so what I love about putting your group of mastermind,
00:06:47your mastermind group together
00:06:49and what you're leading with is impact.
00:06:51Yeah.
00:06:52So that's awesome.
00:06:53That is awesome, man.
00:06:54Yeah.
00:06:54I'm excited for you guys.
00:06:55Just like that, you know,
00:06:58faith, family, fitness, finances.
00:07:01I always questioned like, man, really?
00:07:04I mean, it is what it is.
00:07:05We live in this society where it's like,
00:07:08currency is what it is, right?
00:07:10In order to give, we have to put a huge importance on that.
00:07:14And so I've given a talk on that before.
00:07:15It's like, why don't we put finances at the top?
00:07:17You know, it's like nothing's more important than God, right?
00:07:20But God wants you to be wealthy.
00:07:22God wants you to be a great giver.
00:07:24And so like, why are we not prioritizing finances
00:07:27and producing at the top, just like everything else, right?
00:07:31And so I resonate with what Dave's done there
00:07:34where he's like, hey, you know,
00:07:35we've got to make a lot of money.
00:07:36Yeah, have a lot of fun and then help a lot of people.
00:07:39I like that because it's got to be at the top.
00:07:41It's got to be one of your top priorities.
00:07:42For sure.
00:07:43And also that whole idea of being selfish to be selfless
00:07:48is something that resonates really well with me
00:07:50on the fitness and health and wellness side
00:07:52because I understand that
00:07:53if I'm not the best version of myself
00:07:55and I don't feel good and I'm not thriving,
00:07:57I can't be the best dad, the best husband,
00:07:59the best friend, the best employer,
00:08:00the best coworker, the best customer, et cetera.
00:08:03So it kind of goes across the entire gamut
00:08:05of we have to take care of ourself first.
00:08:07And I always now use the plane analogy.
00:08:09You know, if the things pop out of the airplane,
00:08:11they say, put your mask on
00:08:12before you put anyone else's on
00:08:14because if you pass out, you can't help anybody.
00:08:16Exactly.
00:08:16So the idea of putting that together
00:08:19and incorporating that impactful giving side
00:08:23is just something that is inspiring, man.
00:08:26And I'm just so excited for you guys
00:08:28and your mastermind.
00:08:29And I want to see content and pictures.
00:08:31I'm sure everybody else does.
00:08:32You will.
00:08:32And you know, last time we had a meetup
00:08:35in Southern California, I know you were like,
00:08:36hey, I'll come talk.
00:08:37You've always been super generous with us

00:08:49So I really want to dig into you.
00:08:52I believe success is formulaic.
00:08:54Yeah.
00:08:54I think that we have so much to learn
00:08:56from successful people and it's not what they do.
00:08:59It's the underlying traits
00:09:01and how their behaviors have shaped their success.
00:09:03And I don't care what you do.
00:09:05If you told me tomorrow you were starting a company
00:09:08that did XYZ, sells lawnmowers.
00:09:12Yeah.
00:09:12I know it's going to be the most successful
00:09:13lawnmower sales company in the world
00:09:15because of who you are.
00:09:17Yeah.
00:09:17So take me back, if you don't mind,
00:09:19to you graduate high school.
00:09:21No.
00:09:22Okay.
00:09:22Take me back before you graduate high school.
00:09:26I had my first child in high school, my senior year.
00:09:29And I was a high school wrestler
00:09:32and I was really good at it.
00:09:33And I had colleges reaching out.
00:09:36They wanted me to come wrestle for their school.
00:09:38And when I found out I was having a child,
00:09:42I was like, well, I'm not going to finish school.
00:09:45I'm not going to go the college route.
00:09:46I'm going to go make money and provide
00:09:48for this child, this family.
00:09:50And that was my first wife.
00:09:52We didn't end up making it.
00:09:53We had two kids together.
00:09:54We did end in divorce.
00:09:55But man, that was really pivotal and life-changing for me.
00:09:59I've always, like you, wanted to be rich.
00:10:02We live in a Mormon community
00:10:04and we used to get home teachers that come over.
00:10:06And even when I was as little as six or seven years old,
00:10:09I remember this home teacher coming over.
00:10:11He's like, well, what do you want to be when you grow up?
00:10:12I'm like a millionaire.
00:10:13And he's like, ah, ha, ha, ha.
00:10:14Well, what are you going to do to be a millionaire?
00:10:16I'm like, I don't know, but I'm going to be a millionaire.
00:10:18I had no idea what I wanted to be,
00:10:20but money was super important to me
00:10:21and freedom was important to me.
00:10:23Because I grew up in a home where money was the root
00:10:26of every altercation between my parents,
00:10:29which were really bad altercations.
00:10:32The cops come over and one of them go to jail.
00:10:35It was crazy stuff.
00:10:36My mom ended up in behavioral medicine department
00:10:38at the hospital because she was suicidal.
00:10:40It was crazy.
00:10:41And the root of it was really money.
00:10:43And it was a lot of problems surrounding it.
00:10:46There were other things too, but money was a big deal.
00:10:48So as a kid, I was like, money solves all problems, right?
00:10:51Which is not true, but it does solve a lot of problems.
00:10:53And so, man, I wanted to be rich.
00:10:55I found out I was having a kid.
00:10:56I didn't know how I was going to do it.
00:10:58And it was a really rough road, man.
00:11:00I ended up dropping out of high school
00:11:04and my friend was like,
00:11:05hey man, let's go snowboarding one more time
00:11:07before you go get a job.
00:11:08I'm like, okay, let's do it.
00:11:09So he's left school because I dropped out.
00:11:12We drove up to the mountain.
00:11:13We're snowboarding.
00:11:14I break my arm, literally right in half,
00:11:16not in a joint, not in the shoulder,
00:11:17not in the elbow, right in half.
00:11:19And I remember just trying to get up
00:11:20and my arm's moving in my arm.
00:11:23I was like, what's going on?
00:11:23It's totally like, and then I had nerve damage.
00:11:26So my arm ended up being paralyzed
00:11:28after I got it taken care of
00:11:30and got it casted up and all that stuff.
00:11:33And so now I'm like, well,
00:11:34what am I going to do to make money?
00:11:35I've got this kid on the way.
00:11:37And so I ended up going and getting a job
00:11:40from a friend of my mom's that was like,
00:11:42well, I mean, he can push carts.
00:11:44If he can do it with one arm, we'll hire him.
00:11:45So I'm pushing carts at our local Smith's grocery store
00:11:49for like six bucks an hour with one arm, man.
00:11:51And I had this whole system down
00:11:53where I could steer the carts
00:11:54and I could only take in 10 at a time
00:11:57instead of 15 or 20
00:11:58because I only had one arm, you know?
00:12:00Are you right-handed or left-handed?
00:12:01I'm right-handed.
00:12:02So you broke your offhand?
00:12:03I broke my offhand, yeah.
00:12:04Okay, good.
00:12:04So that was a good thing, right?
00:12:06But yeah, man, I just remember making six bucks an hour
00:12:10and I was laying in bed with my ex-wife
00:12:14and this TV show comes on, an infomercial late night.
00:12:18It was like Carlton Sheets, make money with real estate.
00:12:20One, I wanted to buy my family a home.
00:12:22They're like, you can buy real estate with no money down.
00:12:24Back then I didn't know these things were scams.
00:12:26So I was like, man, maybe I'll buy that guy's program.
00:12:29And it was gonna be like 197 bucks.
00:12:32I can't remember, maybe it was 97.
00:12:33I don't know, some number.
00:12:34And I was like, okay, I gotta set enough money
00:12:36to get that knowledge, right?
00:12:38I never ended up buying that program,
00:12:39but I was so obsessed.
00:12:41I was constantly running budgets
00:12:43and calculating our bills,
00:12:44what it was gonna take to get our first house,
00:12:46buy the furniture, what the rent was going to be.
00:12:49I was always calculating what I needed to do
00:12:51in order to get what I needed for my family.
00:12:54So there was a lot of lessons in being a teen dad.
00:12:56And all I wanted to do was give this child a great life.
00:13:00And so I dropped out, man.
00:13:02I dropped out of high school
00:13:03and I just entered the workforce.
00:13:05Did you, I mean, that's not a light decision
00:13:07because you're a senior.
00:13:08So you were how many months away from graduating
00:13:10when you dropped out?
00:13:12Let's see.
00:13:14We still had three quarters left
00:13:16because we just finished football
00:13:17and I was gonna wrestle.
00:13:19And I was like, no, I'm not gonna wrestle.
00:13:20I gave up the dream of going to college, being a wrestler.
00:13:23And I played football,
00:13:24but I wasn't one of the stars of that.
00:13:26I was a star in wrestling,
00:13:27but I was like, so that was a hard decision too.
00:13:30My wrestling coach literally told me I was an idiot.
00:13:33And so I was like, well, this is what it is, man.
00:13:36I'm gonna go get a job.
00:13:37Did you not have anyone in your life
00:13:39that was sitting you down saying,
00:13:42finish the school first?
00:13:44My parents weren't bad people.
00:13:46There was a lot of fights and a lot of things like that,
00:13:48but they're really,
00:13:50and I hate saying this because I love my parents,
00:13:52but there wasn't a whole lot of wisdom.
00:13:54They came from really rough upbringings,
00:13:56very poor, a lot of abuse.
00:13:58And so they were supportive.
00:14:00They were like, whatever you decide to do,
00:14:02but we don't have anything to really offer you
00:14:05financially or anything.
00:14:07I had to buy my first car at 16.
00:14:09I had to do all that stuff.
00:14:10And I'm grateful for that now.
00:14:11I'm grateful for the wisdom I've gained from them
00:14:13in the areas where they didn't have wisdom.
00:14:15And so all I knew is to be successful,
00:14:19I had to do things a little bit differently
00:14:20than I was raised.
00:14:21And so I just told them that's what I was doing
00:14:23and they supported it.
00:14:24They didn't fight me on it.
00:14:27You obviously not having,
00:14:31where you are today, you can look back
00:14:33and you can say, okay, that decision didn't break you.
00:14:37It might've been the best decision.
00:14:39Maybe not.
00:14:40If your child is in the same position at the same time,
00:14:44what advice do you give them?
00:14:46That's funny because he played a little trick on me.
00:14:48He had his first serious girlfriend.
00:14:50They brought home a fake pregnancy test
00:14:52and he thought he was going to get this crazy rise out of me.
00:14:55And instead he got excitement from me.
00:14:57I was like, dude, that's amazing.
00:14:58We'll figure it out.
00:14:59Was he a senior as well?
00:15:01Yeah, he was a senior in high school.
00:15:02That's a good trick.
00:15:05So you actually know the answer to what you were going to do.
00:15:07And his mom actually reached out.
00:15:09She was freaked out because they played the trick on her.
00:15:12He doesn't know he's throwing his life away.
00:15:13And I was like, he's not throwing his life away.
00:15:16I went through this, you went through this.
00:15:17We both have great lives.
00:15:19Like, let's not forget, we have a lot to be grateful for.
00:15:23And so we thought for this whole two days
00:15:26that he was playing this trick on us
00:15:28that his life was going to change.
00:15:30And I was kind of excited for the opportunity
00:15:32to be able to mentor him and just help him
00:15:35through that period in time.
00:15:37Because when I had the people in my life
00:15:43that wanted to help us, they were telling us,
00:15:45get an abortion.
00:15:46They were telling us, give it up for adoption.
00:15:47And we considered all of that.
00:15:50And it was like, no, let's do this.
00:15:54We can, we're able-bodied.
00:15:55We can do this, right?
00:15:56We're capable people.
00:15:58And so we decided to raise our child.
00:15:59And so I was excited because he changed my life so much.
00:16:03I was excited actually to him have this experience
00:16:06and have me to be able to kind of mentor him
00:16:09and be there for him.
00:16:10So he ran the trick for two days.
00:16:11Yeah.
00:16:12That's a serious commitment to this trick.
00:16:14I know.
00:16:14Well, he told my daughter, my 13-year-old that you met,
00:16:17while we were gone on vacation.
00:16:19And so he didn't actually come over
00:16:20and show us the pregnancy test yet.
00:16:22So we were getting home from vacation or a work trip.
00:16:24I can't remember what one it was.
00:16:26And I'd already called his mother.
00:16:28I'm like, hey, he told our 13-year-old.
00:16:30Our 13-year-old told us.
00:16:31Now I'm telling you.
00:16:32So for like two days, we're like,
00:16:33let's just wait for him to talk to us.
00:16:35So the trick was only a day, but it was two days for us
00:16:38because rumors.
00:16:40But was he, I guess, let me ask you a little more pointed.
00:16:43If he said he was going to drop out of high school.
00:16:45Yeah.
00:16:46Would you have tried to convince him to stay in school?
00:16:48Or would you have said?
00:16:50You know, that's a really tough one, man.
00:16:52You know, I probably would have told him like,
00:16:56hey, there's a lot of value in finishing
00:16:59because that's one of our family values.
00:17:01And our family core values are our faith and finishers.
00:17:05Like Goodman's are finishers.
00:17:07Goodman's are courageous.
00:17:09And Goodman's are lights in the world.
00:17:10Like we try to lift other people up.
00:17:13So those are like our four core values in our family.
00:17:15Faith, finishers.
00:17:17Courageous.
00:17:17Courageous.
00:17:18Yeah.
00:17:18And lights.
00:17:19And lights.
00:17:19Yeah.
00:17:20And so like, I probably would have pushed him to finish.
00:17:22Hey, see it through.
00:17:22You're real close.
00:17:24There's a lot of value in creating study habits
00:17:26that you're going to need in the world.
00:17:27And so like, take it seriously and finish it.
00:17:29You know, learn from some of my mistakes.
00:17:31But if he said, no, I'm going to enter a job force or whatever,
00:17:36I'll be like, I'm going to support you.
00:17:38You know, but you know, like I think there's a lot of value
00:17:41in finishing things that we started
00:17:42because that was a huge obstacle for me.
00:17:43I didn't finish anything, man.
00:17:44I didn't finish high school wrestling.
00:17:46I didn't finish high school.
00:17:48I didn't finish a lot of things.
00:17:49I got, you know, I started jobs.
00:17:51I ended up not liking them.
00:17:52I'll go to another jobs, you know.
00:17:53So I had a lot to learn from not being like a finisher in my life.
00:17:56And still to this day, I'm an amazing starter.
00:17:58Like I start companies, but I will bring people in
00:18:01to help me finish them.
00:18:02You know, like I'm not a CFO.
00:18:03I'm not a COO.
00:18:04Like I own this accounting company, but I'm not a CPA.
00:18:07You know, but I know how to bring the right people together.
00:18:10And so, so whatever I commit to,
00:18:12I make sure that there's a finish line there.
00:18:14You know, even if it means like,
00:18:16I don't finish it on my, by myself.
00:18:18Like I'm bringing people in to finish it.
00:18:19So what was the catalyst that turned you
00:18:22from a non-finisher to a finisher,
00:18:26even in your personal life?
00:18:27Because there had to have been some moment.
00:18:28Yeah.
00:18:29Because I struggled with that myself.
00:18:30I'm a great starter also.
00:18:31I think that's one of the things
00:18:32that made our friendship grow right from the get.
00:18:34Yeah.
00:18:34Was we share a lot in that.
00:18:36Yeah.
00:18:36That I have to bring people in
00:18:37because I'm also none of those other elements.
00:18:40And I, I think, I try to think back
00:18:42as what created that change in me,
00:18:44because I was also the shiny object kid.
00:18:47Para, you know, jumping from what to what.
00:18:49Do you know, or do you have something in your,
00:18:51was it, was it your son?
00:18:52Yeah.
00:18:52Well, no, not for that.
00:18:55I would say I developed that as a strong core value for me
00:18:59because when I worked at an accounting company
00:19:02as a sales representative, I loved that job.
00:19:05You know, I came from a home, IRS problems,
00:19:09like literally they, you know, seized my, my dad's assets.
00:19:13You know, they let us keep our home, but they,
00:19:15but they leaned it.
00:19:16They, they took levy to his bank accounts.
00:19:18You know, they garnished my mom's paychecks at her job.
00:19:21Like, you know, cause they were horrible with money,
00:19:24you know?
00:19:24And so, you know, he was a contractor who was self-employed,
00:19:26but he didn't know how to manage his money.
00:19:27So when I got a job at an accounting company,
00:19:29I was like, whoa, this is like huge.
00:19:31Like all these problems weren't the IRS.
00:19:33This is my dad.
00:19:34Right.
00:19:34And so, but I love that job.
00:19:36And I got fired from that job because I am so entrepreneurial,
00:19:39like just as a spirit that I was like starting
00:19:42these side hustles and finally my job,
00:19:43even though I was still the number one representative
00:19:46in the entire company for sales,
00:19:48like, and I recruited people for him too as salespeople.
00:19:50I trained people.
00:19:52I trained one of my best friends who took over the one,
00:19:55the one, the number one spot out of like 10 sales guys,
00:19:57right at this company.
00:19:58So I dropped from number one to number two.
00:20:00And my, my boss was like, dude, you're not focused.
00:20:03And I can't have people here that have side hustles
00:20:07and you're going to thank me one day, but you're fired.
00:20:10You know?
00:20:10And so I was like, whoa, holy cow.
00:20:12And like, I cried, you know, it's like one,
00:20:13this was like one of my first mentors in business.
00:20:15Like I looked up to this guy a lot that was my boss
00:20:18and he became wildly successful.
00:20:20And we have a great relationship now.
00:20:22He sued me a couple of times because I started
00:20:25my own accounting company.
00:20:26And anyway, so we went through some battles,
00:20:28but man, I actually had a lot of failures
00:20:31in business early on.
00:20:32And I realized like,
00:20:33it was because I wasn't finishing things.
00:20:35I would start projects and I wouldn't finish them.
00:20:37And even though we ended up being successful in,
00:20:40in business, like a lot of failures,
00:20:42business partnerships that fell apart,
00:20:44projects that we started that we weren't like released,
00:20:46like putting a plan to that had a finish line.
00:20:50Like I just realized like, dude, there's a lot of things.
00:20:52If I'm not like all in on it, I won't finish it.
00:20:55And so I had to kind of develop where I was like, okay,
00:20:58well I had to, I had to kind of develop these opportunities
00:21:02as like micro projects that had finish lines, right?
00:21:05So if my job is to build a marketing ad for the company,
00:21:07like I've got to sit down, I've got to write the copy.
00:21:10I've got to brainstorm on the ideas,
00:21:13the message, film the content.
00:21:15And then I'll bring one of my friends in
00:21:17that is great at building funnels
00:21:19and help me fine tune the copy
00:21:20and get it to the finish line, right?
00:21:22And that's going to be super powerful for our company
00:21:24because there's so many operators that will like
00:21:26start things that are great ideas,
00:21:28but they don't know if they're going to work or not.
00:21:29Because we don't get to decide
00:21:30what a great marketing funnel is.
00:21:32Like the data tells us, the world tells us, right?
00:21:34Like they tell us when they click and they watch
00:21:36and they buy and they sign up
00:21:38or they schedule a booking.
00:21:39Like that is what tells us is like all the split testing
00:21:41and all the things that we got to do.
00:21:43And so like I'll bring people in
00:21:44to make sure it gets to the finish line.
00:21:45Like, hey, we need a new marketing campaign.
00:21:47Cool, I'll take that on.
00:21:48And I know I'm going to be great at starting it,
00:21:50but I need my finishers on my team as well
00:21:52to make sure we bring it to the finish line.
00:21:53So that's kind of what I developed through that.
00:21:55Because there was a lot of like
00:21:56just things I didn't follow up with
00:21:57or really important relationships that I just let fizzle
00:22:00because maybe I was scared or intimidated or, you know,
00:22:03whatever, like some insecurity behind it.
00:22:04So I just wouldn't finish it
00:22:06because of these fears, right?
00:22:07And so I became aware of that from getting fired,
00:22:09starting my own thing,
00:22:11going through several projects unfinished.
00:22:13I was a good sales guy, so I could always make money.
00:22:16But I was like, man, you can only do this for so long.
00:22:18Like the life I want is way bigger than this.
00:22:21So I've got to finish.
00:22:22No, I mean, it's so powerful.
00:22:24How old were you when you got fired?
00:22:2623?
00:22:2823?
00:22:28So you had like a four or five-year-old?
00:22:31Yeah.
00:22:32Four or five-year-old?
00:22:32That's about right.
00:22:33Yeah.
00:22:33And I had my-
00:22:34Your second one?
00:22:34My second one was just probably newborn.
00:22:36Yeah.
00:22:37So the day you got fired, you went home.
00:22:39You cried.
00:22:39Yeah, yeah.
00:22:41I want to, I believe, and I'm going to take a guess.
00:22:43So you tell me if I'm wrong,
00:22:44that that was the start of the kale
00:22:46I'm sitting next to today.
00:22:47Dude, for sure.
00:22:48Absolutely.
00:22:49So you get fired, you go home.
00:22:50What was the first company you started after that?
00:22:53Well, luckily we had a side hustle
00:22:54with my business partner, Jeremy.
00:22:56He also worked at that tax company.
00:22:58And he quit far before I got fired.
00:23:01But he kept saying,
00:23:02dude, let me day trade your money
00:23:04in this foreign exchange market,
00:23:06the Forex market, right?
00:23:07And I was like, nah, dude, I don't like that crap.
00:23:09He's like, let me just teach you some things.
00:23:11And I'm like, nah.
00:23:12He just kept hounding me, kept hounding me.
00:23:13And then he finally got me over
00:23:15just to look at it through his persistence.
00:23:16And I was like, that's pretty cool, man.
00:23:19I'm not the kind of guy
00:23:20that's going to look at charts all day.
00:23:21So it doesn't interest me.
00:23:23He's like, well, dude, I wrote this whole course on it.
00:23:25And I can really teach people how to do it.
00:23:26I've gone through two years of education on it.
00:23:29And he's like, if you'll just help me sell people,
00:23:31like we can partner on this thing.
00:23:33And so while I was working at that accounting company
00:23:35for maybe five or six months,
00:23:37we were going home at night
00:23:39and brainstorming and starting our side hustle.
00:23:42And it was literally in the basement of my home.
00:23:44At this point, because I was a good sales guy,
00:23:46like I had already bought and sold my first home.
00:23:49I had some equity there.
00:23:50I built a new home.
00:23:51I had an unfinished basement that I hadn't finished yet.
00:23:54And so we were taking carpet remnants
00:23:56in this one of the bedrooms downstairs for sound
00:23:59and setting up computers and running wires and stuff.
00:24:02And I was like, okay, man, we're going to do this.
00:24:04I'm going to help you sell these.
00:24:05You're going to coach people.
00:24:06I'm going to sell to people.
00:24:08He's like, cool, where are we going to get leads?
00:24:09I literally went on salesgenie.com, leadpile.com,
00:24:13all these old bunk lead sites.
00:24:15And I bought leads just to start practicing a sales pitch.
00:24:19And I ended up getting some sales in those.
00:24:21Then I started reaching out to friends I knew
00:24:22in the marketing space and being like,
00:24:24hey, do you have any leads of people
00:24:26that want to make money from home?
00:24:28They're like, yeah, but it's not Forex.
00:24:30It's like doing data entry jobs or whatever.
00:24:33I'm like, cool, give them to me.
00:24:34I bought those leads.
00:24:35And I started getting a little more success
00:24:36because these people wanted to make money from home.
00:24:38So I'd call them and I'd be like, look,
00:24:40you're still kind of working for someone else
00:24:42when you're doing a data entry job from home.
00:24:44Wouldn't you like the opportunity to work for yourself?
00:24:46There's this amazing new market called the Forex, right?
00:24:48And so it was a Forex trading company
00:24:51and it was called the Forex Wire.
00:24:53And we would call people and sell them
00:24:54and he would coach them.
00:24:55And actually, a lot of our clients
00:24:56were getting really successful.
00:25:00And then what happened was,
00:25:03it was a totally unregulated market,
00:25:04kind of like crypto now, right?
00:25:05And now they're starting to regulate it.
00:25:06They did the same thing with the Forex market.
00:25:08They were like, the NFA is going to step in,
00:25:11the National Futures Association,
00:25:12they're going to regulate this.
00:25:13And they said, you have to have a Series 7
00:25:16in order to receive commissions from these brokers
00:25:18because we were making sales on the training.
00:25:20And then when we'd set these people up
00:25:21with their trading accounts,
00:25:22we would make a little bit of points on the spread.
00:25:24And that turned into a little bit of-
00:25:25You really were making money with the trades.
00:25:27Yeah.
00:25:27So we're making money in trades.
00:25:28Well, we weren't allowed to anymore.
00:25:29And that was like a huge revenue source
00:25:31by the time we had to wind this company down.
00:25:33And because we're like, well,
00:25:35we're just some dumb sales guys.
00:25:37Like, we're not going to go get our Series 7, you know?
00:25:39So we had already started creating our accounting company
00:25:43because I loved that industry.
00:25:45And so we kind of just pivoted.
00:25:46So now you started a separate side hustle.
00:25:47Yeah.
00:25:48Yeah.
00:25:49And that was the birth of EASYRICO.
00:25:50Yeah.
00:25:51Yeah.
00:25:51But, you know, like, yeah, man,
00:25:54getting fired was tough
00:25:56because I was making like $120,000 to $50,000 a year
00:25:59as a sales guy.
00:26:00And now I had nothing.
00:26:01And we had this side hustle with a few sales coming in.
00:26:04And we were like, well, we're just-
00:26:07And dude, I had a bigger home.
00:26:08I sold my home.
00:26:08I had a bigger home.
00:26:09I had a bigger lifestyle now.
00:26:10So I was like, man, I don't know how I'm going to do this.
00:26:12And I was also the one
00:26:14for earning the money for the equipment,
00:26:15the computers, the phones, the leads, you know?
00:26:18So I was like, man, I got to have some income
00:26:21coming in while we build this.
00:26:22Otherwise, I'm going to have to go get a job.
00:26:23And this is still just going to have to be a side hustle.
00:26:25And so my partner, Jeremy, and I, we decided,
00:26:28all right, here's what we're going to do.
00:26:29We're going to pay ourselves $500 a week.
00:26:31That's it.
00:26:32So I went from 150 grand a year to 20 grand a year, you know?
00:26:36And so, and I was like, when we get $100,000
00:26:39in the bank, free and clear, total basis,
00:26:41no expenses, no taxes, nothing,
00:26:44then we'll give ourselves a raise.
00:26:46Okay.
00:26:46Then we'll have some capital to grow.
00:26:48We'll be able to build our sales team.
00:26:49We'll be able to do all these things, right?
00:26:50And so that was what we stuck to, man.
00:26:52So we hustled in the basement
00:26:54until we had 100 grand in the bank account.
00:26:55And then we went and got our office space,
00:26:57started bringing other sales guys,
00:26:58started bringing in other coaches and training them.
00:27:01And it kind of flourished from there.
00:27:02So-
00:27:02And this is in the accounting business?
00:27:05No, that was the Forex business.
00:27:06That was still the Forex business?
00:27:06Yeah, yeah.
00:27:07So how long did it take from that moment
00:27:08till the 100 grand?
00:27:10Oh man, it probably took a year.
00:27:12Yeah?
00:27:12Yeah.
00:27:13You lived off 26,000 bucks.
00:27:14Yeah, yeah.
00:27:16And so when you say like, you know,
00:27:18that moment's probably what created Kel right now.
00:27:20It's like, that's a huge part of it because-
00:27:47Now, let's get after those goals.
00:27:50I learned how to take steps back in business
00:27:53in order for the greater good,
00:27:54in order for those bigger leaps forward.
00:27:56And it always comes down to making some sort of sacrifice.
00:27:59And at that time, I was like,
00:28:01man, I gotta have enough to barely get by.
00:28:04I'm willing to burn through my savings
00:28:06to see this thing through and make it happen.
00:28:11And that's still what I do to this day, man.
00:28:12I'm always like, right now,
00:28:15our accounting company has gone through these crazy changes.
00:28:18And it's like, we better bring on way better talent.
00:28:21We had to bring on way more people.
00:28:23Payroll ate up almost all the profits.
00:28:25And so I went to the partner, I'm like,
00:28:26hey, we're not gonna take owner's draws for a while.
00:28:28We've been living very great for a long time.
00:28:30We're all making over a million dollars a year take home,
00:28:33but we're gonna give that up right now
00:28:34so that we can build the team
00:28:36so now we can pour gas on the next level.
00:28:38And that's what we're doing right now.
00:28:39Like, we're in the middle of that right now.
00:28:40But no one's, it's not the same situation
00:28:42because everybody's literally got,
00:28:44they got money to eat for a while.
00:28:45But it's the mindset, right?
00:28:47Because you're willing to do it
00:28:48when you have no money in the bank,
00:28:49and you're willing to do it
00:28:50when you have plenty of money in the bank.
00:28:51And I think that that is the gold.
00:28:54People hear, oh, I don't have money,
00:28:56or they hear, oh, he has all the money.
00:28:58What they're missing,
00:28:59and what I think is the goal from what you just said
00:29:02is you're willing to make the sacrifice
00:29:05regardless of what you have.
00:29:07You will either eat macaroni and cheese for a year
00:29:10and sacrifice because your future you deserves it,
00:29:13or you're willing to say,
00:29:15hey, I'm not gonna make another million dollars this year
00:29:18because the company deserves it,
00:29:20and my future self deserves it.
00:29:22And those sacrifices are part of the success formula.
00:29:25Absolutely.
00:29:26And I also love that while you dropped out of high school,
00:29:30the degree itself is just a statement.
00:29:32It says, I accomplished this.
00:29:34I'm now ready to work in the world.
00:29:36The education that we get, most of it,
00:29:39the school system, in my opinion, is broken.
00:29:41It might be controversial,
00:29:42but what we don't teach kids in school,
00:29:44and I'm just gonna pivot for a second.
00:29:46I think it's crazy to me
00:29:47because I have a senior in high school,
00:29:48and she's going to college,
00:29:50and we employ a ton,
00:29:52and we have almost a thousand employees across the system,
00:29:54and the majority of them are 16 to 25 year old.
00:29:58And when I talked to them,
00:29:58I realized the education system
00:30:00does not teach them anything about personal finance.
00:30:02Nothing.
00:30:02Doesn't teach them how to buy a house.
00:30:05Doesn't teach them about credit.
00:30:06Doesn't teach them how to make money.
00:30:07Doesn't.
00:30:08It teaches them very broad topics,
00:30:10and then relies on the individual
00:30:12to have that quest, that quench for learning.
00:30:15Yeah.
00:30:16But what you said when you quit school.
00:30:18Yeah.
00:30:18And dropped out.
00:30:20One of the things you said,
00:30:21and I don't know if it was in the forefront
00:30:23as you were saying it,
00:30:24but when I was listening to you,
00:30:25that while you were pushing carts with one arm
00:30:28in a cast.
00:30:29Yeah.
00:30:30And you saw $97, $197 course that you wanted,
00:30:33but you couldn't afford.
00:30:34Yeah.
00:30:34You started learning.
00:30:36Yeah.
00:30:36You took proactive steps
00:30:37to learn everything you can about real estate,
00:30:39because you saw that as the means to the end.
00:30:41Yeah.
00:30:41Which means you didn't really need the high school diploma,
00:30:43because you already were curious and an avid learner.
00:30:46Yeah.
00:30:46And ready to make the sacrifices necessary
00:30:48to get yourself ahead.
00:30:50Yeah.
00:30:50And look at all those times that you've done that.
00:30:53So you have easier accounting.
00:30:54It's now obviously flourishing.
00:30:56Yeah.
00:30:56And you have a new problem.
00:30:56It's still a problem.
00:30:57Yeah.
00:30:58But it's how do you now invest your capital in your time?
00:31:00Yeah.
00:31:01And how do you continue to grow and thrive as an individual?
00:31:03And so you're an investor in a lot of companies.
00:31:06Yeah.

00:31:18How do you decide where to invest your money?
00:31:19What do you look for?
00:31:20You know, a big part of it's obviously the network, right?
00:31:24So I'm a big believer in betting on the operators.
00:31:28You know what I mean?
00:31:28So like that's probably the biggest decision.
00:31:32And then, you know, like, because you can get,
00:31:35for example, like you can get all these projections and,
00:31:38you know, here's what the expected returns are.
00:31:40It doesn't ever happen.
00:31:41And I know that going into these deals, you know,
00:31:44but when I look at, okay, well, is there assets attached to it?
00:31:47Do you own the building?
00:31:48Do you just own the business?
00:31:49Like you just go through those things.
00:31:51And I'm not that great at that, to be quite honest with you.
00:31:53So I have people that help me.
00:31:55I've got my attorney who's become a great friend
00:31:57and a business partner in one of our other companies that we own.
00:32:00And he'll go through contracts with me.
00:32:02Like, hey, I would ask them to edit this.
00:32:04I would ask him to change that or guarantee this.
00:32:06If, you know, there's this type of liability.
00:32:08And so I'll let him help me.
00:32:11You know what I mean?
00:32:11So that's literally like my process is like in my network,
00:32:15I see who's actually winning versus who's faking it.
00:32:18You know, some of my best friends that are wildly successful
00:32:21or asking me to invest in these things with them are like,
00:32:24dude, they're not buying Lamborghinis.
00:32:25They're not buying all these things, right?
00:32:26Like they are all in on their baby.
00:32:28And that's important to me because, you know,
00:32:31somebody that's passionate about something
00:32:33is most of the time going to figure it out and make it work.
00:32:36You know, there's unforeseen things can happen,
00:32:37COVID, you know, inflation costs, things like that,
00:32:40that kill the expected returns.
00:32:42But it's like, it's okay, man.
00:32:43Like, you know, like it's still, it's not a loss till it's a loss,
00:32:47you know?
00:32:47And so I'm willing to take big risks, you know,
00:32:50but I also do make sure I have my safe things figured out too.
00:32:53So if Everbull for whatever plummeted, right?
00:32:55It's like, I'm still fine.
00:32:57If, you know, other things that I've invested into,
00:32:59like someone wags other brands, you know, it's like, I'm okay.
00:33:01You know, like I have, I have my securities.
00:33:05I have my stocks.
00:33:06I have my whole life insurance plans, my permanent life insurance plans.
00:33:10I have all those things.
00:33:11Like my family is covered.
00:33:13And, and so I don't really worry too much.
00:33:15Like I know the risk than when I'm going into things,
00:33:17but when I really am making the decision,
00:33:19I'm making the decision based on the operator, the founder, the CEO,
00:33:22I'm making that decision based on how they operate
00:33:25and how I feel about them when I meet them
00:33:27and what they've already done too.
00:33:28So.
00:33:30Well, I think that's important because I know I struggle with that.
00:33:35I've excelled in sales like you.
00:33:36Yeah.
00:33:37And one of the negatives of being a great salesman or a woman
00:33:40is we're very easily sold.
00:33:42Yeah, totally.
00:33:43I buy the hype.
00:33:44Yeah.
00:33:45I get sold by great salespeople all day, every day.
00:33:48And it's, it's just a common thing.
00:33:50I'm sure you deal with that as well
00:33:51because I don't sell from a, from the backend side
00:33:55and I don't do manipulate.
00:33:56Like I'm not, I'm not trying to,
00:33:57I don't oversell on purpose.
00:34:00Yeah.
00:34:00I oversell because I'm passionate.
00:34:01Yeah.
00:34:03And so if someone has passion, I'm going to buy it.
00:34:05Yeah.
00:34:06I'm in.
00:34:06Totally.
00:34:06Like I'm there with you, you know?
00:34:08And so I've been involved in some bad investments and we all are.
00:34:12Me too.
00:34:12Yeah.
00:34:13And it's, at first it scared me
00:34:15because I realized like I'm a really good figure outer.
00:34:19Problem solver.
00:34:20Problem solver.
00:34:20It's what I am, a professional fireman in the business sense.
00:34:24Yeah.
00:34:25But when I'm an investor, I don't get to do it.
00:34:27Yeah.
00:34:28I have to just trust.
00:34:29Yeah.
00:34:30And so I, you know, I lost some money
00:34:31on my first few investments with some friends and some deals
00:34:34and it scared me for a while.
00:34:35And then I got back on the horse, you know,
00:34:37and I started to deploy capital to ventures
00:34:40that I thought were there.
00:34:41But I always find it curious
00:34:43how you truly make that determination.
00:34:46So there's two things I learned.
00:34:47Big, big influence on this is my dad
00:34:49because of all his money problems.
00:34:50Like he was always chasing the get rich quick things.
00:34:53Okay.
00:34:53So that is like a huge red flag for me.
00:34:55And so the second my mind goes to impulsive,
00:34:58so it's two eyes, impulsiveness and ignorance, right?
00:35:01So I have to really regulate myself there
00:35:03because I already know I'm being impulsive
00:35:05when I'm like, all right, I'm going to buy this Airbnb deal
00:35:09because it has an airplane hangar
00:35:10and I picture myself having an airplane in that hangar one day.
00:35:13Like that's an impulsive decision, right?
00:35:15And then there's ignorance that comes with that
00:35:18because when you get impulsive,
00:35:19you do become and you choose to stay ignorant
00:35:22based on all the red flags, right?
00:35:24And so I regulate myself on that now, you know?
00:35:26So like I knew I was being impulsive
00:35:27when I bought that Airbnb with the airplane hangar,
00:35:30but I was like, okay, I'm not going to be ignorant.
00:35:33I am impulsive right now.
00:35:34So I'm not going to be ignorant.
00:35:36And so that's, I had my attorney look over the contracts.
00:35:38I went through, I got data from the Dallas area.
00:35:41I found out that it's in county instead of city.
00:35:44They can never come and say, you can't Airbnb it.
00:35:47Then I started doing numbers on what the houses are
00:35:49in that area are renting for on Airbnb and VRBO.
00:35:53Then I found out like, okay,
00:35:54Toyota headquarters is right there.
00:35:56They constantly have events and conventions.
00:35:58There's all these events and conventions going on
00:36:00in Frisco, Plano and Dallas area.
00:36:02So I'm like, okay, that's my market.
00:36:04I found other homes that specifically market to that area.
00:36:07So I started doing all my due diligence to make sure
00:36:09I wasn't just making an impulsive and ignorant decision
00:36:12because that is when things implode, right?
00:36:15Impulsiveness, ignorance equals implosion always.
00:36:19And so I got to make sure
00:36:21that if I'm feeling impulsive about something
00:36:22because I like the shiny things too, man, I'm a hustler.
00:36:24I like nice things.
00:36:26But when I start getting in that mindset of like,
00:36:28ooh, well, this could get me this much money every month.
00:36:33And then I wouldn't have to worry about these things
00:36:35or I'm picturing my airplane.
00:36:37Like those are, that's when you know, like, okay,
00:36:39these are impulsive decisions.
00:36:40Now you can start doing your due diligence.
00:36:42Sometimes you get a win, dude.
00:36:43Like I got to buy that property
00:36:45and it was an impulsive decision,
00:36:47but it wasn't an ignorant one.
00:36:48There was all this upside.
00:36:49Did I have to put more money into it
00:36:51than I wanted to in the remodel?
00:36:52Yeah, I did.
00:36:53You know, so there was something,
00:36:54I've got a little ground to make up on that investment,
00:36:56but long-term, this would be a great investment.
00:36:58I've already had guys in the Airbnb space
00:37:00that have offered me over a million dollars for this home,
00:37:03but I'm into it about a million bucks, right?
00:37:04And so I'm like, dude, I'm not, I'm not going to sell it.
00:37:07You know, I know the market's volatile right now,
00:37:10but they know like, dude,
00:37:12trick that airplane hanger out.
00:37:13You put the games in there.
00:37:14You do these things.
00:37:15You market that just right, put the gym in there,
00:37:18you know, the dart boards, the, you know, garage bar,
00:37:21whatever, all that stuff.
00:37:22You trick that thing out.
00:37:23Like not only are you going to get more of a premium
00:37:25on your rents, but that thing's going to rent out.
00:37:27It's going to be booked out.
00:37:28Like you've got Texas OU game.
00:37:29You got Dallas Cowboys games.
00:37:30You got conventions.
00:37:32That thing will always be booked.
00:37:33And it's a bigger home.
00:37:34It's got three master suites, you know,
00:37:36and I remodeled it that way.
00:37:37So that, cause it was a three level home.
00:37:38I put a master suite on every level.
00:37:40I made it a really cool home
00:37:42for people to bring their groups,
00:37:43their multiple families or their business groups
00:37:46to be able to have a great experience there.
00:37:48And so other people are seeing that now
00:37:50and they're like wanting to buy the home.
00:37:51So I know I made a great decision,
00:37:52but there was some impulsiveness there.
00:37:54So I had to make sure I wasn't being ignorant.
00:37:56Well, I can tell you when I'm in the Dallas area,
00:37:58you know, you're getting a phone call.
00:37:59I'm renting it.
00:38:00For sure.
00:38:00Cause that hanger looks and sounds awesome.
00:38:03Dude, you bring your team there.
00:38:04It's got an amazing living room.
00:38:06You can do like, you know, put up presentations.
00:38:08Like I had one guy rent it
00:38:09and he was doing like his own little mastermind in there.
00:38:11Steve Weatherford asked me to rent it
00:38:12cause he wanted to do his mastermind there,
00:38:14but it was already booked
00:38:14and we couldn't rearrange it for him.
00:38:16But I love what you just said.
00:38:18Impulsive and ignorance equals implosion every time.
00:38:22Yeah.
00:38:22I mean, so I had Jimmy on the show, Jimmy Rex,
00:38:24and I asked him about investing in real estate
00:38:27and he gave me a piece of advice
00:38:29and I think it will fit for you for sure.
00:38:31And he's like,
00:38:31just make sure you clear a hundred dollars
00:38:32for every hundred thousand in the purchase price.
00:38:35You do that and you'll always be okay.
00:38:36Oh, wow. I like that.
00:38:37Yeah.
00:38:38It was a nice, easy, digestible way to say,
00:38:40hey, if you're going to invest in these,
00:38:41because real estate's scary.
00:38:43Yeah.
00:38:43It's tough.
00:38:44Like there's people who are really good at it
00:38:45and they've done it forever.
00:38:46Yeah.
00:38:47There's guys like myself who I dabble.
00:38:49Yeah.
00:38:50You know, I'm not a professional real estate investor
00:38:52or a real estate guy, but I like real estate.
00:38:55I think it's a great, it's a great vehicle.
00:38:58The idea that you're buying at the top of the market
00:39:03is always scary.
00:39:03Always.
00:39:04But the truth is there's never a bad time to buy real estate.
00:39:07Yeah.
00:39:08If your horizon is long enough.
00:39:10Yeah.
00:39:10And for what you're using it for
00:39:12and how you're kind of thinking it through
00:39:14and what you're willing to put into it.
00:39:15Yeah.
00:39:16And put that little kale spin.
00:39:18Yeah.
00:39:18You know?
00:39:18Yeah.
00:39:18I mean, let's, let's be honest.
00:39:20We said this before the show,
00:39:21but my favorite thing about this story is
00:39:24it has its own runway for the community
00:39:26and an airplane hanger.
00:39:27Yeah.
00:39:27Because one day you're going to own a jet.
00:39:30It's true, man.
00:39:31It's true.
00:39:32That's something that I've always wanted.
00:39:34So I don't know.
00:39:34I know what'll happen.
00:39:36But I'll tell you what, man, just, just who I am.
00:39:40When we talk about a success formula,
00:39:42it really does come down to, it starts with courage.
00:39:46Do you talk about real estate being scary?
00:39:47It's scary for me too.
00:39:49All these investments, all these businesses I've started,
00:39:51getting fired from my job, having my kid in high school,
00:39:54like I'm probably,
00:39:56and that's why it's one of our family core values is
00:39:58we're courageous.
00:39:59We're Goodmans.
00:39:59We're courageous people.
00:40:01Cause that's where it always starts, man.
00:40:02Like we need more people with just more courage
00:40:05in all areas of our life, you know?
00:40:08And so I'm huge on courage.
00:40:11If you have courage
00:40:12and you're willing to make commitments to things,
00:40:15even though they're scary,
00:40:16and you're willing to put some consistency behind it,
00:40:18it's going to develop competency.
00:40:20And when you have competency
00:40:22in whatever it is that you're going into,
00:40:23whether it's a real estate investor, you know,
00:40:25and it's figuring out everything,
00:40:27you have actual competency around
00:40:29like what makes a great deal,
00:40:30you're going to win every single time.
00:40:31And then you're going to have all these gifts
00:40:32to share with people as well.
00:40:34And so that's kind of one of my big formulas
00:40:36is creating courage and commitments and consistency
00:40:39to make sure I'm developing competency
00:40:42in whatever it is I'm doing.
00:40:44And I'll add that you're also clear on who you are
00:40:46and what it's going to take.
00:40:48Yeah.
00:40:48You've taken, so I live core values.
00:40:51Yeah.
00:40:51And so many people roll their eyes when I talk about them.
00:40:54Yeah.
00:40:54Because to them, they're buzzy.
00:40:56They're fluff.
00:40:56But what they don't realize is that's the roadmap I use.
00:40:59Totally.
00:41:00My core values for me, my family,
00:41:01and my personal core values,
00:41:04it's how I make decisions when I don't know what to do.
00:41:06Yeah.
00:41:06And that's what you need it for.
00:41:07It's the parachute when you're on the airplane.
00:41:09It's so true.
00:41:10You don't want to use them.
00:41:11Yeah.
00:41:11But when you're falling, you're damn happy you have them.
00:41:13Yeah.
00:41:14And you know who you are.
00:41:15You know who Goodmans are.
00:41:16Your family has its formula.
00:41:18Yeah.
00:41:19And that's one of the reasons I think
00:41:21you've been so incredible at identifying undervalued assets
00:41:24and turning them profitable as a businessman
00:41:26because you're able to lean on those core values.
00:41:30Yeah.
00:41:31It's true, man.
00:41:31I'm a big time visionary.
00:41:32And so everything I try and create,
00:41:36I just think it's possible.
00:41:37But you just got to have the courage to just do it.
00:41:40You know?
00:41:41And that's one of the things I love about your podcast.
00:41:43And I want to talk a little bit about it
00:41:44because we actually met through your show.
00:41:46Yeah.
00:41:47You guys reached out to me.
00:41:47I was in St. George speaking at an event.
00:41:50And you said, hey, would you be a guest on our show?
00:41:52This was what?
00:41:53Four years ago, maybe?
00:41:54Yeah.
00:41:54It's been a while.
00:41:55It's been at least three and a half.
00:41:56Yeah.
00:41:56Three and a half years ago.
00:41:57I mean, this was early.
00:41:58Yeah.
00:41:59And we had never met.
00:42:00Yeah.
00:42:01And I was like, yeah, I'd love to come.
00:42:03And for me, it was always about making friends.
00:42:05That's my first core value.
00:42:06Yeah.
00:42:07Make friends with everybody
00:42:08because you never know who you know until you know them.
00:42:10That's true.
00:42:11And everyone has something that you can learn from.
00:42:13That's true.
00:42:14And so I came to the Easier Accounting office.
00:42:16I was just blown away at the energy,
00:42:18the vibe from you and your partner, Trevor,
00:42:20who wasn't able to come today.
00:42:21But he's going to be flying on the Easier Accounting jet
00:42:24over here pretty soon.
00:42:26And I just fell in love with you guys and your show.
00:42:29And I'll be honest.
00:42:30I've been a guest on probably 350, 400 shows.
00:42:33Yeah.
00:42:34I listen regularly, probably to three or four of them
00:42:37just because we don't have enough time.
00:42:38But yours is one I genuinely listen to.
00:42:40Yeah.
00:42:41I can't say I listen every week just because I'm busy,
00:42:43but I listen pretty regularly.
00:42:44That's awesome, man.
00:42:45And I love it.
00:42:46I love how relatable you guys are.
00:42:49You speak from a place of authenticity,
00:42:53but also practical.
00:42:55And that's one of the things that I strive for
00:42:57is I like to dummy things down.
00:42:58I like to make things simple, easy to digest,
00:43:01easy to eat so I can figure out what to do
00:43:03because I don't need complexity.
00:43:04Yeah.
00:43:05Complexity for me causes confusion and mistakes.
00:43:07Amen to that.
00:43:09And what you guys do on your show and who you interview.
00:43:11And I was asking him off air, full disclosure,
00:43:13because this is new to me.
00:43:14I'm on this side of the desk.
00:43:16And you were giving me some really good advice.
00:43:18And part of it was just exactly what I learned
00:43:20from you on your show.
00:43:21Yeah.
00:43:22So tell me, what is the ultimate goal for your podcast?
00:43:26Like why did you guys start it?
00:43:28What's the end game if there is one?
00:43:30So, I mean, did we started it?
00:43:32To be a marketing bucket for our company, right?
00:43:34So we started it.
00:43:38So I kind of drug Trevor to some events.
00:43:41I was like, because he doesn't like to leave his bubble, dude.
00:43:43You know what I mean?
00:43:44He's very like his creature of his habits
00:43:47and like he likes to stay in his routines, right?
00:43:50And I've always been the guy out there.
00:43:52I'll bring the relationships.
00:43:53I'll bring this, I'll bring that.
00:43:54You know?
00:43:54And so I was like, man, you know,
00:43:56we both listened to this like Andy Frisella guy
00:43:58and like, let's just go check him out.
00:44:00Like I've also been in talks with Gary Vee's team
00:44:03because I've been reaching out to them
00:44:05to try and do one of their marketing with VaynerSports,
00:44:08like one of their marketing, like brand ambassadors.
00:44:10And so I was in talks with them and Gary Vee was like,
00:44:14well, AJ's brother was like,
00:44:15well, Gary's doing an event in Miami.
00:44:17It's called Agent 2021.
00:44:19He's going to do it for four years to 2021.
00:44:21So this was in 2018, pretty early on.
00:44:24He's like, come out to Miami, meet us.
00:44:26And so I went out, I met him.
00:44:28I met his brother, AJ in person, his mom, his sister.
00:44:31They ended up becoming clients of VZ Air Accounting.
00:44:34And it was like, it was cool, man.
00:44:35I just love those people.
00:44:37But Andy Frisella was speaking there as well.
00:44:39And so we got some really good advice from Gary.
00:44:44He was like, dude, it's just going to be the way it is.
00:44:47Everyone's going to have a video team.
00:44:48Everyone's going to have a D-Rock like he had on his team.
00:44:51He's like, you guys need to get you one, right?
00:44:53Build your brand.
00:44:54And so we started there and we hired a videographer
00:44:56and we started putting content out
00:44:58all under the name of VZ Air Accounting.
00:44:59For whatever reason, Instagram shut our account down
00:45:02without telling us.
00:45:03I don't know if we broke a copyright rule.
00:45:05I have no idea.
00:45:06They wouldn't tell us.
00:45:06They wouldn't give us our account back either.
00:45:08And so Trevor actually had a great idea.
00:45:10And he was like, well, dude,
00:45:11instead of pitching accounting online
00:45:14and trying to get people to follow us,
00:45:15no one wants to follow accounting.
00:45:16It's the most boring part of business.
00:45:18Why don't we do something that's just value
00:45:21to business owners in general
00:45:23and we'll call it something like Real Business Owners.
00:45:26I'm like, there's no way that name's available.
00:45:28And he's like, no, it is, I already looked it up.
00:45:29I'm like, bro, snag it, let's go.
00:45:31So he came up with the Real Business Owners name
00:45:33and I think that helped us a lot.
00:45:35People are searching real business
00:45:37and podcast app or whatever,
00:45:38but that helped to grow a little bit quicker.
00:45:40But man, we just wanted to be authentic on our journey
00:45:44and we did want more customers.
00:45:45That was the ultimate goal in the beginning stages.
00:45:49And then it kind of turned into,
00:45:50well, dude, all these people are literally
00:45:52sending us letters and gifts.
00:45:53And they're like, dude, you saved my life.
00:45:55I was going to be suicidal
00:45:56because I couldn't make this business work
00:45:57or I'm going through these hard things.
00:45:59And we don't just talk on business,
00:46:00we talk on everything that affects your business,
00:46:03which is you, right?
00:46:04It's your environment, it's your surroundings,
00:46:07it's your people, it's your network,
00:46:08it's the tactical things, it's the non-tactical things.
00:46:11And so we're like, dude, let's just share as we grow.
00:46:13And so that's all we did, man.
00:46:14And then it just turned into like, coach me,
00:46:18let me join your mastermind.
00:46:19And so it's kind of turned into its own business.
00:46:22I don't know what the end goal is for it.
00:46:24You know what I mean?
00:46:24Like it really hasn't turned
00:46:26into this huge marketing channel.
00:46:29All the relationships I've had over the years,
00:46:32it's assisted in things like networking, things like that.
00:46:35But really, I mean, we're just enjoying it right now.
00:46:38And it's turned into this thing.
00:46:41And as long as it doesn't take me away
00:46:43from being an awesome father,
00:46:46because that's been big for me lately.
00:46:48I was absent, even though I was an awesome father
00:46:51in a lot of ways with my older kids now,
00:46:55I missed out on a lot.
00:46:56And I'm in a position now where it's like,
00:46:58man, I still got a seven-year-old and a three-year-old
00:47:00and the 13-year-old that you met.
00:47:02And I'm like, you know, there's so much I'm missing out on
00:47:05when I'm like on the road
00:47:06or at another mastermind event for someone else's
00:47:08or at mine or planning the event.
00:47:11And it's like, I've got to make sure that,
00:47:14because it's basically a startup, right?
00:47:17Like I got to make sure that like I can be committed to it.
00:47:20And that's one of the reasons we restructured it as well.
00:47:22It's like, man, that's my number one priority
00:47:24is making sure I'm not missing out on the family,
00:47:27the kids, like, I don't want to miss all that again.
00:47:29I had to miss all that when I was an employee
00:47:31going to an entrepreneur.
00:47:32And, you know, I just, I don't,
00:47:35we don't really have like an end goal for it.
00:47:36We're just enjoying it,
00:47:37but there have been parts that we didn't enjoy.
00:47:39So that's why we restructured it.
00:47:40So we want to be able to add value to people's lives.
00:47:43We want to help other entrepreneurs and business owners
00:47:46and not for more money.
00:47:47It's literally turned into like,
00:47:48well, dude, our business is great.
00:47:49We have great lives.
00:47:50So as long as it doesn't take us away from that,
00:47:52we want to just help people.

00:48:27that is the hardest question I've ever been asked.
00:48:30I get asked it, unfortunately, too often,
00:48:32and I still don't have a good answer.

00:48:35And then this question is,
00:48:37how do you balance being an entrepreneur
00:48:39and attacking all the different businesses
00:48:41that I have and you have,
00:48:43and being a father and husband?
00:48:45And how do you give balance to both,
00:48:46but still giving 100% to both?
00:48:48And I'll tell you my answer before you tell me yours.
00:48:52Because mine is, I don't.
00:48:54Something always, unfortunately, gets,
00:48:56it's a teeter-totter,
00:48:57and something is always being left behind.
00:48:59And so for me, it's always been,
00:49:00I move to the one that needs more attention in the moment.
00:49:04It has caused me to miss things in my personal life.
00:49:07It's caused me to miss things in my professional life.
00:49:10How do you, if I answer,
00:49:12I'll have you answer the question.
00:49:13Yeah, well, I fail at it a lot.
00:49:14You know what I mean?
00:49:15So, but the balance that I do have
00:49:20comes from just honesty.
00:49:22Like, if I'm being really honest with myself,
00:49:25am I being present right now with my kids?
00:49:27Am I coming in the door on my phone?
00:49:29Let me just finish up this last call.
00:49:31You know, so I had to set some hard deadlines,
00:49:34you know, and I've broke them,
00:49:35you know, but I always get back on them too,
00:49:36because it's just that important to me.
00:49:38It's like, you know, when I come home,
00:49:40I want to make sure I'm not on my phone.
00:49:42Like that first greeting for my three-year-old running up,
00:49:44Daddy, you know, like, I don't want to miss that.
00:49:46Cause I'm like, hold on one second, you know?
00:49:48So I just have to be really honest with myself, man.
00:49:51Like if my wife isn't getting the attention she needs,
00:49:53my kids aren't getting the attention she needs,
00:49:55I'll miss some things.
00:49:56I don't want to miss a lot of things.
00:49:57If I got to miss a baseball game for my son, cool.
00:50:01But I'm not going to miss state championships games.
00:50:04I'm not going to miss playoffs.
00:50:05Like, I don't even care if it is my own mastermind.
00:50:07I'll call everyone up myself and say,
00:50:08dude, we're rescheduling it.
00:50:09You know, or, you know,
00:50:10Trev can leave this one without me, whatever it is.
00:50:12Like, but there's, there's things I won't miss.
00:50:14There's things I will miss.
00:50:16But really, I just have to be honest with myself
00:50:18in the moment quite a bit of like, well, am I being present?
00:50:20Am I really giving them the attention
00:50:22and time that they need?
00:50:23And, you know, there's, there's value on both sides of it.
00:50:26You know, if I'm like really hustling
00:50:28and neglecting some things in the, in the family life,
00:50:30like, well, then I'm gaining some wisdom
00:50:33to be able to share with them, right?
00:50:34Like I'm, I'm, I'm producing,
00:50:36which is going to be a gift to them.
00:50:38But it's like some things you just can't miss.
00:50:39Like they don't need all your attention.
00:50:42They don't need you to always show up for them.
00:50:44There's a lot of beauty in them,
00:50:46figuring out things in their own as well.
00:50:48So like, I don't beat myself up over it.
00:50:51You know, I used to, I used to beat myself up about it a lot.
00:50:55And I got to a point where I was like, you know what?
00:50:57I just got to be okay with it.
00:50:58Not always being okay.
00:51:00Sometimes things are going to pull me away.
00:51:01There's some important things
00:51:02that aren't going to pull me away.
00:51:03And as long as I am, when I am home,
00:51:06when my family, which is a lot more now, thank God.
00:51:08It's like, I really got to be honest with myself
00:51:11on like being present, like, dude, put the phone away.
00:51:14You know, have a hard cutoff.
00:51:15I won't take calls after 6 p.m. anymore.
00:51:17Like I just don't, like people want to talk to me.
00:51:20If they text me, I'll get back to them tomorrow.
00:51:22You know, unless it's like some crazy emergency
00:51:24and they text me, like they need me right then and there.
00:51:26Like most 99.9% of things can wait, you know?
00:51:30So I just had to get really honest with myself about it, man.
00:51:33And stop beating myself up over it.
00:51:34Yeah, I love it.
00:51:36I mean, it's something I work on.
00:51:37I'm not as good as you are.
00:51:38I made some of those rules.
00:51:40But so I had this rule for a while,
00:51:41which was once I come home, I'm going to put the phone down.
00:51:44Ask my wife.
00:51:45I ended up spending 48 minutes in the car, in the driveway,
00:51:48still on the damn phone.
00:51:49And she's like, it doesn't work if you just sit in the car.
00:51:52But to your point, it's because I get so ingrained.
00:51:56My challenge has always been,
00:51:57I don't know what day of the week it is and I don't care.
00:51:59I work seven days a week because I love what I do.
00:52:02But I also want to be with my family seven days a week
00:52:03because I love them.
00:52:04And so it's one of those big challenges.
00:52:06It's one of the things that I think a lot of entrepreneurs
00:52:08don't understand going in or they're not prepared for,
00:52:12which is there's a cost for everything.
00:52:14There's a sacrifice.
00:52:14Like to be a professional athlete,
00:52:16I wanted to be one as a kid.
00:52:18And I went to law school to be a sports agent
00:52:20and understand what pro athletes do and they go through.
00:52:24They don't realize that for the 48 minutes
00:52:26an NBA player plays on the court,
00:52:28they spend 12 hours getting ready for that 48 minutes
00:52:30from meetings to video work, to training, to practices,
00:52:34to rehab, to coaches meetings, to et cetera.
00:52:38Same in the NFL, MLB.
00:52:38What score?
00:52:39Well, I wanted to be an NFL player, but I'm 5'9".
00:52:43I'm fast, but I'm 170 pounds.
00:52:45So I can tell you, I didn't, I wasn't meant for it.
00:52:48There's not very many, huh?
00:52:49Doug Flutie.
00:52:50Yeah, except I didn't have the arm.
00:52:51So, you know, I was a running back.
00:52:53It just wasn't in my cards.
00:52:55And then baseball was my other passion, but it just, again,
00:52:57but the point of that is that entrepreneurship
00:53:00and business owners, the reason I've been successful
00:53:03is because I can, I used to always say,
00:53:04I'll outwork everybody.
00:53:06The cost of that is I have missed a lot, you know?
00:53:09And I have a, it's really hitting me
00:53:11as my 17 year old is graduating high school
00:53:14and we just took her on some college tours
00:53:15and everything is the last.
00:53:17Yeah.
00:53:18This is the last spring break when she's in high school.
00:53:21This is the last, you know, it was the last Labor Day.
00:53:24It was the last Thanksgiving while she still,
00:53:26now, will she come home for Thanksgiving?
00:53:27I hope so.
00:53:28Yeah.
00:53:28But the difference is I hope so versus she's home.
00:53:30Yeah.
00:53:30Right?
00:53:31Who knows what's going to be available to her?
00:53:33And she's looking to go out of state for college.
00:53:34And it's scary.
00:53:36It's scary and it's also, it makes me sad
00:53:38because I missed a lot.
00:53:40Now, I look back at all the things I missed.
00:53:41Yeah.
00:53:42And I realized a lot of the things
00:53:43that I was taking for granted.
00:53:45But at the same time,
00:53:48the person I am that she sees
00:53:50that I'm training her to be is,
00:53:52I can't just be because I'm an entrepreneur
00:53:54and a business owner
00:53:54and I'm building something way bigger than myself
00:53:57and it's not a job.
00:53:58I don't have the freedom to just not miss things.
00:54:01Yeah.
00:54:01I have to travel.
00:54:02I have to go and do.
00:54:04Now, I don't, I use the word have to.
00:54:05I have to for the goals that I've set.
00:54:07Yeah.
00:54:08And I think to your point,
00:54:09I think what I learned from you just now
00:54:10is I need to be more honest with myself
00:54:13about which are the things that are important
00:54:15because I've traveled more than a lot.
00:54:16I mean, last year I spent 117 days on the road.
00:54:20Yeah.
00:54:20That's a lot.
00:54:21Yeah.
00:54:22That's a lot.
00:54:23But there's still 200 days you're home.
00:54:25You know what I'm saying?
00:54:26And so like, dude, you're an amazing example
00:54:28because your kids might want to be entrepreneurs
00:54:31and you're exemplifying your example
00:54:32of what it's going to take.
00:54:35At the end of the day, they don't need all your time.
00:54:36They just need the time that you do have with them
00:54:39to be like quality time, you know?
00:54:42And that's like, dude, out of anybody in this world,
00:54:45nobody wants your attention, your love,
00:54:48your acceptance more than your kids.
00:54:49And so, you know, I was failing there, dude.
00:54:52And I just had to get really honest with myself about that.
00:54:54And it's like, you know what?
00:54:55We're going to start having fun again.
00:54:57And that's really what it came down to
00:54:58because like I wasn't having fun, man.
00:55:00I was like living in guilt and shame constantly
00:55:02how my wife was being treated,
00:55:03how my kids are being treated,
00:55:04me being gone, me being absent.
00:55:06Even when I'm there, I'm still absent
00:55:08because I can't stop thinking about this project
00:55:10or this new relationship or this new opportunity.
00:55:13And so it's like, dude, you got to make the time
00:55:16that you do have with them count
00:55:18because they don't need all of it, man.
00:55:19That's still, if you're on the road 200 days a year,
00:55:22you still have 100 days with your family.
00:55:24It's like, make those days count, right?
00:55:26Like even if it's four hours at home before bedtime,
00:55:30going to the kids, you know, baseball game,
00:55:32going to whatever it is, man, like just make it fun.
00:55:35And like, I lost that for a little while, man.
00:55:37Even pretty recently, like this is like last year,
00:55:40the last two years were very trying in the personal area.
00:55:44Like even though business was great,
00:55:45it's like you reach this point
00:55:47where it's like you don't realize in the moment
00:55:51until you do, but it's like this comfort, right?
00:55:54It's like, ah, things are just coming
00:55:55and coming and coming.
00:55:56And you start feeling a little bit full,
00:55:59you start feeling unfulfilled.
00:56:00And then all of a sudden you're treating people differently.
00:56:02And it's like, until you become aware of it,
00:56:05it's like, it's like just a really shitty place to be.
00:56:08And so I had to get honest with myself really recently,
00:56:11like in the last six months
00:56:12and just been working really hard with my wife.
00:56:14Me and her have been uniting, you know,
00:56:16like playing music in the home,
00:56:18like dancing with the kids, like being goofy.
00:56:21Like my little three-year-old has a crazy imagination.
00:56:23I just play the game she wants to play.
00:56:25We got a pool in the backyard.
00:56:26Like we have the money to go travel.
00:56:28We started our own little Instagram page
00:56:31called Entrepreneur Family Explorer.
00:56:34No, Entrepreneurs Exploring.
00:56:36But then the name under it is like
00:56:38Family of Entrepreneurs Exploring the World.
00:56:40And so like my daughter's all into it.
00:56:42She's helping me edit stuff, put it on TikTok, Instagram.
00:56:45Like we're having fun with it.
00:56:46It's not like, we're not Instagramming for influence
00:56:49or business or leads, like, you know,
00:56:51or looking at everyone else's life.
00:56:53We're like putting ours out there
00:56:54just that we're having fun.
00:56:55And so like, that's just fun stuff that we're doing, man.
00:56:58And like, it took me just being really honest with myself
00:57:00to get back to that.
00:57:01So, cause you lose yourself in business sometimes, man.
00:57:04You have to, unfortunately.
00:57:05If you want to be really good at anything,
00:57:06you have to lose yourself in it.
00:57:08Whether it is being a parent, to your point,
00:57:09playing the games with your three-year-old
00:57:11and living in that imaginative world.
00:57:13If you don't go all in, you're not giving your child that.
00:57:17So if you've got to do the same for your business,
00:57:20especially if it's something you're passionate about,
00:57:21it's just, that is one of the things
00:57:22that is not glorified.
00:57:24We don't talk about enough, I think,
00:57:26is how you do the balance.
00:57:27How do you be a good father or mother,
00:57:31good husband or wife at the same time
00:57:34as also giving your business all the things that it needs.
00:57:38So.
00:57:38It's true, man.
00:57:39I mean, dude, I'm getting yelled at now again by the booth.
00:57:42We go way too long.
00:57:44But I could spend hours just picking your brain,
00:57:47hanging out with you, talking with you.
00:57:48I'm, my only bummer for me is you don't live in San Diego
00:57:51and I don't live in St. George.
00:57:52So we can hang more often.
00:57:53I know, man.
00:57:54We need to get spots on both sides.
00:57:55Me and my wife are looking in Dana Point.
00:57:57No good.
00:57:57Yeah.
00:57:58That's close.
00:57:59And I've been looking.
00:57:59If you remember when I was out there,
00:58:01I wanted a house in St. George.
00:58:03So I still want one.
00:58:04You find me one, I'm buying one.

00:59:05and he's wildly successful,
00:59:07has been like, dude,
00:59:08he just chooses to have fun with everything he does.
00:59:10And he's taught me all these things
00:59:11that he does to create fun and joy out of everything.
00:59:14And I was missing that so much.
00:59:16And so he literally became a mentor
00:59:18of how to discover me and have fun again.
00:59:21So anyway.
00:59:21Well, you know why that's dear to my heart?
00:59:24Is my second core value.
00:59:25My second rule is have fun.
00:59:26Yeah.
00:59:27It's make friends have fun.
00:59:28Yeah.
00:59:28And when I'm having fun, I have immense success.
00:59:31Yeah.
00:59:31The second I stop having fun, my results tank.
00:59:33It's crazy.
00:59:34It's crazy.
