00:00Hey Adam, it's Men's Health. We're here to see your gym and fridge.
00:04What's happening? I'm Adam Levine.
00:08Right this way.
00:21This is my kitchen. Welcome everybody to my kitchen. I love my kitchen.
00:25Come on over.
00:26Every morning I wake up and it's coffee time. Now, I don't f*** around with my coffee.
00:31Grab my beans, do a little pour over.
00:33Biazzi likes cream and sugar. It's a very specific ratio. I've mastered that at this point.
00:39Foaming the milk, because again, I don't play around.
00:42Creatine. Creatine is a scientifically proven thing, so everyone should take it.
00:46I'm not a doctor though, so don't listen to me.
00:48Yeah, so I do coffee. Maybe if I'm feeling an espresso, this is a very simple and effective espresso machine.
00:53Highly recommended.
00:54Snack drawer. We've got a snack drawer here, guys.
00:57Yogurt, Oikos, Siggy's. My favorite things to kind of like eat fast, on the run.
01:02Smoothies, little snack fridge. Snack fridge. Very clutch, but my favorite thing.
01:08This is this. This, ladies and gentlemen. This is the fridge.
01:14This right here. This is my favorite thing.
01:17Adam, I think that's the biggest fridge we've ever seen on the show.
01:20I wouldn't advise you to come in and close the door because it's kind of sketchy to get out.
01:23I mean, you've got to just give it a good push.
01:25What do you always have in your fridge?
01:28Peppers. Because eating a pepper every day, that's more vitamin C than an orange.
01:34I mean, I think. Again, I'm not a medical doctor. People tell me shit and I believe them.
01:39But yeah, so there's a lot of vitamin C in peppers. I think those are the best things to put in your body every day.
01:44I love me some berries. I pound berries in the morning.
01:46What else do you keep in this massive fridge?
01:48Yeah, we have a garden here.
01:50Keep everything that we grow in here. It's a little slim pickings right now, but this is the veggie section over here.
01:56Shit, I don't know. I never used my fridge for anything, to be honest.
02:00I didn't even know we had this. I'm just kidding.
02:02Gotta have a little poppy. They make the best fake Coke.
02:05Oh, we don't have any. Oh, yes, we do. We have one left.
02:07This is my favorite. Like, if you can't have a Coke, it's kind of like the second best thing.
02:12Kind of tastes enough like Coke to like satiate that desire to have Coke.
02:16So I like to have non-soda sodas to scratch the itch.
02:24How has your diet changed over time?
02:26You can eat anything you want when you're younger, and then all of a sudden you can't.
02:29So I just kind of try to be conscious of the things I put in my body and not overdo it, not overthink it, but kind of just be smart about it.
02:37And I don't know, lots of veggies, things I didn't used to love.
02:41I mean, who likes veggies when they're young?
02:43Now I love veggies, which is funny.
02:45Do you eat or drink anything before going on stage?
02:48Well, right before you go on stage, I eat very little.
02:50Just like two or three hours before because it's like you don't want to go out there with a full stomach.
02:55I'll always have right before, drink a ton of water, ton of tea.
02:58I'll have like a little bit of protein, like turkey slices and some apple, which is good.
03:02Like energy burst right before we go on.
03:04I'll have kind of a more of a bigger meal afterwards once I've worked up an appetite.
03:08What do you typically eat when you're on the road?
03:10I keep it simple on the road.
03:11Lots of protein, grilled chicken when I can.
03:14That's like the go-to.
03:15Egg whites and spinach for breakfast, maybe some oatmeal.
03:18Fruit when I can.
03:19Some quinoa, maybe some steak every once in a while for dinner.
03:23Beans when I get my hands on them, some good ones.
03:26If I get too adventurous when I'm touring, it's like, it's just not cute on stage.
03:31Are there any food or drinks you need to have backstage?
03:34What food or drink do I always have backstage?
03:37If there's not like apples, I freak out.
03:40That's like the one thing, that's the one thing I have to have on stage, or not on stage.
03:45That'd be funny.
03:46It'd be like, hey, thanks a lot guys.
03:47But yeah, so if there's no apples, I lose my f***ing sh**.
03:50Freak out.
03:52What do you typically eat after a big show?
03:54God, so many meal questions.
03:56I don't know.
03:57I love a steak.
03:58I don't know.
03:59These are hard questions.
04:00I feel like it depends on the night, depends on the place we're at.
04:04Hey, if we're in Thailand, I'll probably have some Pad Thai.
04:06If we are in Texas, I'll probably have some barbecue.
04:10We always try to get whatever we can get that's like the local delicacy, if you will.
04:14What is one food you can't live without?
04:16Food I can't live without.
04:18Sushi.
04:19I love sushi.
04:20I could eat so much sushi.
04:21I could eat more sushi than most people in one sitting.
04:23What is your go-to comfort food?
04:25Sushi.
04:27What's your go-to burger order?
04:29Ooh.
04:30Depending on the day, I'll either be regular, just double-double animal style,
04:34or I'll do double-double animal style, protein style.
04:36If I'll ditch the bun, just do it with lettuce.
04:38It's just disgusting and delicious.
04:40The grilled cheeses from In-N-Out are really good, but that's on the low.
04:42Like, the real motherf***ers know about the grilled cheese.
04:44So if you go in there and you're like, let me get a grilled cheese, it's off menu.
04:47They'll respect you.
04:48What's your snack strategy?
04:50Try not to.
04:51Snacking for me is like, I try to do a little Siggy's, a little peanut butter, something like that.
04:56But if I'm, like, off the rails, then I'll probably have, like, whatever the f*** I can get my hands on.
05:00Because sometimes I get, like, crazy.
05:02And for those moments, I have places here in the house with things in them that I am too ashamed to show you guys.
05:10Amazing, delicious things that are not going to be part of this healthy piece.
05:16What do you grab from your fridge at 2 a.m.?
05:18Oh, no, no.
05:19No, there's no food.
05:20I have now completely programmed my brain to not eat after, like, 7.
05:25I used to be really bad.
05:27I have put those days behind me.
05:29If I'm, like, if I'm being crazy, I'll grab, like, a handful of, like, peanuts and raisins.
05:35I'm so f***ing boring.
05:37But also, I like ice cream.
05:39Anything where chocolate and peanut butter are involved.
05:42Peanut butter cups in ice cream.
05:44Taking a chocolate bar and, like, dipping it in peanut butter.
05:47This is for health, right?
05:49This is for men's health.
05:52Alright, are you ready to work out?
05:55Alright, guys.
05:56Here we are.
05:57This is my gym.
05:58Ain't she beautiful?
06:00Let's get a quick workout.
06:01Come on.
06:02Do you like to work out with a partner?
06:03No.
06:06Yeah, I always work out with my boy, Austin.
06:09Oh, and here he is right now, everybody.
06:11Austin Poland.
06:12Come on, let's clap.
06:13Let's clap.
06:14This is Austin.
06:15He's the best.
06:16Wonderful guy.
06:17Amazing trainer.
06:18So, this exercise I'm going to do, I used to hate it.
06:20They're called rear foot elevated split squats.
06:23Otherwise known as Bulgarians.
06:26No one likes to hear that word.
06:28But once you get better at them, they're actually kind of, like, addictive and fun.
06:31What's your morning routine?
06:33Well, take the kids to school every morning.
06:35It's kind of a workout.
06:36But then afterwards, go to the gym and we'll do, like, it depends on the day, right?
06:41So, Monday, Wednesday, Friday's gym.
06:42Tuesday, Thursday's Pilates, which a lot of guys don't do, but should.
06:47Because it's very, very important, I think, and crucial.
06:50Definitely no lifting Tuesdays and Thursdays.
06:53Very tired still from those Bulgarians.
06:56What are your fitness goals?
06:58When I first started doing this, I cared.
07:00It was more of an aesthetic thing, I think.
07:02Look good, I guess.
07:04And as much as that's nice, and I will admit to my own vanity, and it's nice to look good, and I like to do that.
07:09It's one of the reasons why I like to work out.
07:11But I think the core now reasons why I'm more associated with, like, heart health and cardiovascular health.
07:17You know, I'm not 25, I'm almost 45.
07:21So, doing things to strengthen my legs, and my hips, and my core, and things that were kind of my trouble spots.
07:26And just living a healthy life and a healthy lifestyle.
07:30Because, you know, working out isn't one of those things you just, it's not like a Band-Aid you can throw on.
07:34It's, oh, I've got to get myself in shape.
07:35I've really fallen in love with just trying to, not worrying about a scale, or not worrying about, like, a goal necessarily,
07:42but more so just making fitness part of my life for forever.
07:46I was going to chime in, but there was no chiming in.
07:48He took it over, he wrote an essay there, so I had not much to say.
07:53How has your exercise regime changed over time?
07:55I mean, I didn't exercise at all until I was probably in my, like, late 20s.
07:59I mean, I did, but I played basketball once a year.
08:02But, like, that was kind of my life.
08:04So, I got really into yoga.
08:06That was an amazing thing, and then I think at a certain point I had just done yoga every day for, God knows how many years.
08:12And then I kind of realized, okay, I need to do some other things, or some other things that are lacking.
08:16Then I started branching out, doing cardio stuff, weightlifting, strength training, all that good stuff.
08:21How does working out help you on stage?
08:23Working out as a performer is actually hugely important.
08:27It's big energy playing a concert, so there's a lot coming at you, and so it can be overwhelming.
08:31And so just having your cardiovascular kind of dialed in is just important.
08:36I wanted to be an athlete growing up, and became a musician instead.
08:39So, I think I like to apply a lot of what I love about sports and competition to what I do on stage.
08:44So, I like to be in the best possible shape, because then I'll put on the best possible show.
08:49What kind of training do you do to prep for tour?
08:51We have the luxury of being able to have Austin out with us on tour.
08:54So, you know, wherever we go, anywhere in the world, like, we hit the gym.
08:58In every gym, like, the farthest reaches of the planet at this point.
09:02Kind of in between shows.
09:03The heavy workouts won't be on show days, so it'll just be kind of light.
09:07Which Maroon 5 song is the best to work out to?
09:09I don't work out to my own music.
09:11And if I did, I wouldn't admit it, but I don't.
09:13This Love. This Love. I will only work out to This Love by Maroon 5.
09:17That's a joke. You better edit that kindly.
09:19Up next, we have one-armed overhead shoulder press.
09:23For those sexy shoulders you always wanted.
09:27What keeps you motivated?
09:28Gosh, I mean, I love fitness.
09:31Fitness kind of is an endorphin rush, and it feels good.
09:34And it always just feels good to be in shape.
09:36What keeps me motivated is just wanting to live a happy, mobile life.
09:41I want to be that guy at 90, still in it.
09:44What do you consider an intense workout?
09:46Any workout can be intense, trust me.
09:49What's your favorite exercise?
09:50Seated overhead shoulder press.
09:52Just kidding.
09:53Maybe Bulgarians. Bulgarians for the win.
09:55What's one exercise you hate?
09:57Bulgarians.
09:59What inspired you to get fit?
10:00I think wanting to have a long life and a long career.
10:04Most importantly, I have three kids,
10:06and wanting to be a dad that can play with their kids forever.
10:10I think that's an important thing.
10:12But overall, just longevity. You only get one life.
10:15So I think it's important to do what you can with the one you get.
10:20Alright, time for rapid fire questions.
10:22Workout time, 7am or 7pm?
10:247am, but a little bit later.
10:25Squat or deadlift?
10:26Squat.
10:27Favorite song on your playlist?
10:28Anything by Maroon 5, just kidding.
10:30Crossfit, yay or nay?
10:31Nay.
10:32Pull-ups or chin-ups?
10:33Neutral grip pull-ups or chin-ups.
10:35Dumbbells or kettlebells?
10:37Kettlebells.
10:38Running on the treadmill or the great outdoors?
10:40Great outdoors.
10:41Cardio or weights?
10:42Both.
10:43Big legs or big arms?
10:45The right size of everything.
10:46Biggest compliment, jacked, ripped, cut, or swole?
10:49Cut.
10:50If you could workout with anyone in the world, dead or alive, who would it be?
10:53100% would be Kobe.
10:55Alright guys, that was it.
10:57Thank you for coming.
10:58Get on with my life.
11:00Wee wee wee!
