00:45The relentless rainfall escalated the Jhelum River's water levels beyond the flood-degradation
00:50threshold in Srinagar by Tuesday morning.
00:53Concurrently, major rivers and streams, including the Porung Nalla in Kupwara District, surged
00:58perilously close to the danger mark due to the substantial rise in water levels.
01:02To monitor the evolving situation, local authorities have activated control rooms overseeing the
01:06water levels in the Jhelum and other water bodies across Kashmir.
01:10In Hanwara and Kupwara towns, certain areas succumbed to water logging, prompting the
01:14district administration to mobilize local police, army, CRPF and the SDRF for rescue
01:20missions.
01:21Floodwaters in undulating roads effectively severed Kupwara District in north Kashmir
01:24from the rest of the valley.
01:26With rain exacerbating the situation, at least 336 families were evacuated from the
01:31region as water levels continued to surge.
01:34A flash flood in Anantnag's Kazibund area also partially damaged the Nawa-Bonigam Bridge.
01:41According to the Meteorological Centre in Srinagar, wet weather conditions are forecasted
01:45to persist on Tuesday.
01:47Mukhtar Ahmed, the Met Director, stated that the weather will remain generally cloudy with
01:51light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder at various locations.
01:55However, Ahmed mentioned that an improvement in weather conditions is anticipated starting
01:59Wednesday.
02:00Moreover, he indicated that from May 1 to 5, generally dry weather is expected, with
02:05the possibility of afternoon thundershower activity occurring at a few locations.
