00:00Every year millions of tons of cargo are handled at the Swedish port of Javla, some 170 kilometers from Stockholm.
00:08To reduce waiting times, fuel consumption and carbon emissions, the busy logistics centers introduce stocking and departure times.

01:15Some 800 ships dock at the port of Javla every year.
01:19With this new system logistics companies can secure an arrival slot and avoid anchoring outside the port.
01:27We have gained trust with this system which means that we have been able to introduce virtual arrivals.
01:33That means that you can apply for a queue ticket well in advance before you reach the port.
01:38So all the way from the continent to port of Javla you could choose to go eco driving because you know that you will be able to go into the port when you want to call.
01:46You can save a lot of carbon dioxide and a lot of energy and gain a lot of efficiency.
01:52Virtual arrivals optimize the operations and the logistics chain.
01:57From port workers to trucking companies or cargo vehicle operators everyone has access to the information.
02:04Traditionally the first ship to arrive was the first served.
02:07But thanks to this system shipping companies save time and money.
02:15We are saving about 10% per vessel which means 300 tons per year and that refers to 1000 tons of emissions per year and per vessel.
02:30The total budget for efficient flow amounts to approximately 4.5 million euros.
02:3575% has been co-financed by the European Cohesion Policy and Sweden and Finland funded the remaining 25% of the total budget.
02:44Apart from the port of Javla some 15 ports in Finland are also managing their maritime flow using the solution.
02:52The aim is for this open source system to be extended to other ports worldwide.
