Post-match reaction from Leeds Knights' head coach Ryan Aldridge and captain Kieran Brown after their 7-3 win over Swindon Wildcats in the NIHL National play-off semi-final at Coventry's SkyDome Arena
Transcript
00:00Obviously, we had a great start, four quick goals. I thought the boys played really great.
00:15Obviously, I called a time-out, got a couple of quick goals back and like we just said,
00:20I think the period break came at the right time. But yeah, I thought we had a much calmer
00:26second and third and some boys got some big goals tonight.
00:29Was that the message in that first period break? Just calm things down, take the sting
00:34out of the game?
00:35A couple of messages. The first one was a little bit like we were cheating in certain
00:38areas and we changed the way the game was when we got to four, which we always do. Then
00:44right before we went out, we just talked about being a bit calmer and playing with a zero
00:50mindset and going on from there.
00:52They had the chances, obviously. Sam Gossel came up with some big, big saves for them.
00:58Also, a moment of brilliance from Kieran Brown in that second period, which kind of just
01:02swung the game back in your favour, as it were.
01:06Yeah, Cozzy made one save that was unbelievable, which might have been the game-changer when
01:11they had momentum and it might have been the one that Kieran scored right after. We went
01:15straight down and scored and I thought that kind of deflated them and gave us our confidence
01:21to go on.
01:22Into the final, like I say, what does that say about this group? They've already had
01:25a phenomenal season. They can actually go on and make it even better, can't they?
01:29Yeah, no one can say they're a good group of kids. Being the youngest group again, the
01:37way they battle for each other and the way they keep pulling off is pretty special.
01:42The boys did a good job and we did a good job defensively and offensively as well and
01:45it showed.
01:46In terms of the overall performance, was that one of your best this season, do you think?
01:51I wouldn't say so, no. I think there's been some games where we've played for 60, whereas
01:56tonight I think we let off the gas after we got the four goals and you could clearly see
01:59that from the performance. But we came together, we spoke about it, we said, look, it's a two-game
02:05weekend and that is it, it's done. So, yeah, I think we did a really good job.
02:09Double's still on. How confident are you of completing that tomorrow?
02:15I just try not to think about it, to be honest. It's in the back of my mind and I'm sure it's
02:18in the back of everyone's mind. But you've just got to come, it's just one more game
02:21and you've got to bring everything you've got. So, I'm really looking forward to it.
