00:00Chyna Phillips said she feels like she's been walking on eggshells recently with William
00:04Baldwin.
00:05Here's why she's afraid that what she says might trigger him.
00:09Nothing can bring out a fight between a couple quite like a cross-country move — an unfortunate
00:14reality that Chyna Phillips learned the hard way while moving from the East Coast to Southern
00:18California with her husband Billy Baldwin.
00:20The musician shared how their recent move played into the couple's historically tumultuous
00:26in an installment of her California Preachin' YouTube series on April 22nd, 2024.
00:31Moving is hard, and it definitely creates a perfect nesting ground for bickering, arguing.
00:40She went on to explain how tension has been high between them, and it's led to constant
00:44arguments and fights.
00:46Just when I feel like we're on a roll and things are starting to get better, we start
00:51the bickering again.
00:52In her video, Phillips said they had a particularly heated argument that led her to some troubling
00:57realizations about how they communicate.
00:59Billy's my life partner.
01:00I mean, he's the one I want to have the healthiest relationship with, but sometimes I don't.
01:06Phillips added that she and Baldwin struggle to avoid toxic communication loops where both
01:10parties are too emotionally wound up to communicate effectively.
01:14The singer said she began keeping her true feelings from Baldwin out of fear of putting
01:18him on edge.
01:19If I share, then that's going to send him, you know, into a depression, or he's going
01:24to have anxiety.
01:25So it just comes down to me not wanting to trigger him.
01:28But she also acknowledged that this apprehension was doing more harm than good to their relationship.
01:33Fortunately, they were able to work it out, but Phillips and Baldwin are no strangers
01:37to contentious dynamics.
01:39Fifteen years after the couple married in 1995, Phillips filed for divorce from Baldwin.
01:45She told Us Weekly it was because she thought their marriage had hit a standstill, saying,
01:49I started to feel a little flat-lined, like I need more and want more, and I know we deserve
01:54more from our marriage."
01:55Just days later, she withdrew her request and credits the couple's focus on communication
02:00as what helped save their marriage.
02:02She said that part of the more she was looking for was better communication, which the couple
02:07worked on together in therapy.
02:09Unsurprisingly, it seems like most of their marriage problems pop up around the same time
02:13as major internal and external life changes.
02:16The actor and musician share three children together, Jameson, Vance, and Brooke, born
02:21in 2000, 2001, and 2004, respectively.
02:25The couple struggled with empty nest syndrome after their youngest daughter, Brooke, left
02:29for college in 2022.
02:31In a September 2023 YouTube video, they said that it took some time to come to terms with
02:36that.
02:37We have this black hole in our life that just occurred called empty nest syndrome, and it
02:41creates this, like, huge vacuum.
02:44For Phillips, her solution was to take a deeper dive into her faith.
02:48She's become an outspoken proponent of faith-based living, using her YouTube series California
02:53Preachin' to share daily devotionals, musings on Christianity, and more.
02:57But this, too, occasionally caused unforeseen problems.
03:00Jesus is my rock, and that's how I roll.
03:03Jesus is my rock, and that's how I roll.
03:05Jesus is my rock.
03:06No, I'm not doing that, sweetie.
03:07I'm not doing that.
03:08Phillips confessed in a January 2024 video that she didn't think Baldwin knew how to
03:13react to her newfound faith.
03:15Despite the couple's inevitable ups and downs, it seems like they're both working hard to
03:20keep their relationship going.
