00:00 The last dance is almost here,
00:02 and our Rohan Nadkarni had a chance to catch up
00:05 with the documentary's director.
00:07 Rohan, first of all, I think a question a lot of people have
00:09 is just how involved in this project was Michael Jordan?
00:13 It's a great question, Robin.
00:15 It's one that I was really interested in
00:18 when I was recording this piece.
00:20 And he was heavily involved.
00:22 One of the great stories the director told me
00:23 was Michael Jordan was giving him notes on the documentary.
00:27 I mean, they sent a rough cut to Michael Jordan.
00:30 One of the notes he gave the director was,
00:32 "Hey, you guys forgot to include a buzzer beater
00:35 I hit during my first comeback after his first retirement."
00:39 It's just granular stuff like that.
00:40 So that competitive side of Michael Jordan,
00:43 that kind of control-freaky side of Michael Jordan
00:45 definitely came out in this project.
00:48 Yeah, he will remember his triumphs, that's for sure.
00:50 But it keeps being labeled the Michael Jordan documentary.
00:53 I mean, there were other members of the Bulls
00:55 who are a part of NBA lore,
00:56 whether it be Scottie Pippen or Dennis Rodman,
00:59 Steve Kerr, Phil Jackson.
01:00 What made that team in particular so special?
01:03 Yeah, I think part of what makes the documentary great
01:06 is they talk to all of those guys, right?
01:08 I mean, there are episodes that focus on Scottie Pippen,
01:10 Dennis Rodman, Phil Jackson, et cetera.
01:12 But when it comes to the Bulls specifically,
01:14 I think what makes them so special
01:16 is they hit at a time in history
01:18 when the world was opening up.
01:20 It was a post-Dream Team era.
01:22 Basketball was popular globally,
01:24 but people weren't hated the way they are today,
01:29 for lack of a better term,
01:31 which meant that everyone just really enjoyed this team.
01:33 And the level of celebrity, I mean,
01:34 not just Michael Jordan, but someone like Dennis Rodman,
01:37 what really just made this team incredible
01:39 is not how great they were on the court,
01:41 which they obviously were historic,
01:44 but just the level of celebrity
01:45 almost every single player had around the world.
01:48 I don't think we'll ever see a kind of perfect mix
01:50 of events like that, maybe ever again.
