A look at Coronavirus and sports as basketball is aiming for a return.
Transcript
00:00We're seeing other leagues from other sports and other countries coming back. Taiwan and
00:09South Korea with baseball and soccer. Germany's Bundesliga of course is coming back May 16th.
00:15Why is it harder for the sport of basketball to return?
00:19A great question. And one that as we record this, I'm waiting to hear from like epidemiologists
00:25on to see what they think. But it seems like pretty fundamental, right? That if you have
00:29people inside a building playing a full contact sport, you know, wearing tank tops and shorts
00:36and sweating all over each other, that that's just more dangerous than playing baseball
00:40or playing soccer where, you know, the only person who actually touches the ball is the
00:44goalie who has gloves on. Now, you know, Taiwanese basketball has been playing behind closed
00:48doors for a while in kind of this bubble scenario. You know, Taiwan, yeah, did a very good job
00:53locking down on the virus. And then I think this is where you're going to telescope back
00:56out and look at the response in China and the response in the U.S., you know, the availability
01:01of testing, a relative lack of it in this country. It just seems to me like there's
01:06a lot of infrastructure that needs to take place over the next couple of months that,
01:11you know, even that life is coming back to normal in China that these guys described
01:14to me, you know, malls open, restaurants open, schools open, people on the streets, traffic
01:19on the roads. The fact that basketball is still not on the docket until July at the
01:24earliest, I feel like says a lot.
