00:00 JJ Watt has been granted his release from the Houston Texans in a move that was both
00:04 shocking and maybe not so surprising at the same time.
00:07 I'm Robin Lundberg here with Bill Enright.
00:09 And Bill, you know, I say the first part of that shocking just because this guy has been
00:14 the Houston Texans, right?
00:15 But when you get to the latter aspect of it, he's not quite the same player he once was.
00:20 And I think this is also a commentary on the state of that franchise and that organization,
00:26 given we know what's been going on with Deshaun Watson as well.
00:29 But as far as Watt's concerned, you know, what should be next for him?
00:33 I hear the Pittsburgh Steelers mentioned a lot.
00:35 And what about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers?
00:38 Not like they need help on that defensive line, but you could always add to his strength.
00:43 Yeah.
00:44 So this is a point in JJ Watt's career where he gets to pick where he lands, right?
00:49 And he will go to a Super Bowl contender.
00:52 I think it makes sense for people to link him to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
00:56 We know that his brothers play there.
00:58 The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, you mentioned them.
01:00 They're just coming off a big Super Bowl win.
01:02 And maybe JJ Watt wouldn't have to be an every down player now that he's entering the, you
01:08 know, back nine of his career.
01:11 Green Bay, he's a Wisconsin guy.
01:13 I think that makes a lot of sense, but they would have to do extensive amount of work
01:17 on their cap.
01:18 I think they're, they're way below their cap number.
01:21 You look at the NFC West with the Seattle Seahawks, Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco
01:26 49ers.
01:27 49ers have a great defense.
01:28 They just lost their defensive coordinator, but how about JJ Watt and Bosa being on the
01:32 same defensive line?
01:33 I think that would make a lot of sense regardless of where he goes.
01:37 He's going to be one of those players that the fans instantly love.
01:41 He's a guy that you can root for.
01:42 You know, he's very charitable, did a lot for Houston during hurricane Harvey created
01:48 that.
01:49 I don't know what the name of it, the JJ Watt fund, maybe it was, but I think they raised
01:52 over $30 million for hurricane Harvey relief in that Houston area.
01:57 So the fans are going to love him.
01:58 His teammates are going to love him.
01:59 The coaches are going to love him, but he will be on a team that is a legitimate Superbowl
02:05 contender.
02:06 Don't expect him on the Cincinnati Bengals in 2021, expect him on a top 10 team in the
02:11 NFL.
02:12 And at this point in his career, he deserves to sign with a team that you know, is going
02:16 to win, have double digit wins in this season.
02:19 Well, no matter how dysfunctional it is in Houston, you wouldn't expect him to leave
02:23 there where he's always been to go to, you know, something that isn't greener pastures.
02:28 If you will, he did put out a video thanking everybody involved, you know, and we're already
02:33 processing it and spinning it forward, but you know, how surprised were you even where
02:37 he's at right now to see him released for nothing?
02:40 Yeah, this is kind of a thing that we see in the NFL and it's hard to believe when you
02:47 have a player that's the face of the franchise all of a sudden decide, listen, I'm done with
02:52 you guys.
02:53 We have to go our separate ways.
02:55 And, and, and what was an incredible member of the Texans for a very long time, help lead
03:00 that defense had back, I think 20 and a half sacks in the, in the first twice in the first
03:05 five years of his career, he was a monster and, and you see the Texans deteriorating
03:11 right before our, our eyes.
03:14 And it just kind of goes to show that I think the Sean Watson's days in Houston are certainly
03:19 numbered as well.
03:21 They're going to have to ship him off and really satisfied his demand to be traded.
03:26 But in terms of what Robin, I think it will be kind of that next thing that we see with
03:32 these professional athletes where we're so used to seeing them in one uniform.
03:37 And then as fans, we have to get adjusted.
03:38 Oh yeah.
03:39 Wow.
03:40 JJ watt.
03:41 Wow.
03:42 We're going to see him now in a, in a Pittsburgh Steelers uniform and a green Bay Packers uniform.
03:45 It will take some time to get adjusted to seeing him where a new Jersey.
03:50 But Watson's still a franchise player, right?
03:52 With what, you know, a lot of times when a guy does get to this stage of his career,
03:56 maybe a more limited role can revitalize the production.
04:00 Even if you're not getting the production over the full course, if you will, you're
04:05 in, in the spots that you get it, he could still be a valuable player.
04:07 Yeah.
04:08 Yeah.
