SI's Bri Amaranthus and Chris Halicke reflect on Joey Gallo's participation in the MLB The Show Players League.
Transcript
00:00The inaugural MLB The Show Players League tournament was a very unique way
00:04for fans to connect to players while MLB and the rest of the sports world is on
00:10hold. Rangers star Joey Gallo was knocked out of playoffs however he did
00:15earn best player which was voted on by his peers. Chris what did you learn about
00:20Gallo throughout this entire process? Yeah Joey Gallo unfortunately he did not
00:26win the MLB The Show Players League. He did leave a great impression. He had the
00:31second best record in the league was only a game behind Blake Snell from
00:35Tampa Bay who ended up winning the whole thing and the one time they did play in
00:39the regular season Gallo beat him by a score of 11 to 2 so he was definitely
00:43impressive. One thing that I really took away from from Gallo's you know from
00:48watching those streams is that he was very interactive and he was very
00:53entertaining. You know if you watch the streams or if you saw anything on
00:57Twitter or if you missed any of that you really got a chance to see his
01:00personality shine his personality come out and when we had an opportunity to
01:03talk with him on Monday in a conference call Gallo mentioned how you know while
01:08it was fun he wanted to interact with fans more so while streaming he was
01:13trying to you know play things up and he was trying to to interact with fans and
01:17it's hard to do when you're playing a video game. Another interesting thing he
01:21said whenever we were talking with him was that he turned down multiple
01:25opportunities to play on ESPN or for his games to be aired on ESPN and
01:29mainly because he didn't want to be known for for that. He doesn't want to be
01:33known for just another baseball player who's good at video games. He obviously
01:37wants to make a name for himself on the baseball diamond so while he had some
01:42fun playing he did say that he's glad it's over and he's gonna be taking a
01:46break from the video game for a while.
