00:00MLB wants to play baseball this season and one proposed adjustment for that to
00:04happen is for there to be a universal DH for the shortened 2020 season, which of
00:10course would be in part to protect pitchers. What would this look like and
00:14Chris, how would this affect the Rangers?
00:17Yeah, the designated hitter is a pretty controversial topic among baseball fans.
00:21American League fans tend to like the DH while National League fans tend to
00:25dislike it. Not speaking for everybody, but there's definitely a divide among
00:29baseball fans. And whenever the baseball world is shut down because of a
00:35pandemic, NLB officials have to exhaust all of their options. And one option
00:39that continuously comes up even in the proposal that they're discussing on
00:42Monday is a universal DH. And for a team like the Texas Rangers, who normally
00:49play with the DH, they would be playing only AL West and NLS teams in this
00:53proposal. And, you know, normally playing in National League parks, they
00:58would be, you know, having their pitchers hit instead of having a DH where there
01:02would be a DH. It doesn't matter what ballpark they're playing in. So that
01:06would definitely be different. And obviously that would be brought in to
01:09prevent player injuries and, you know, allow more players to be utilized
01:13because, you know, expanded rosters are going to be at managers discretion.
01:18And, um, these are just really, really out there ideas. Uh, and we just have
01:27to understand that this season is going to look very different than most
01:31seasons and a universal DH is going to upset a lot of people. Um, just because
01:36there are a lot of traditional fans that like, you know, the National League
01:40style of play, and that would be absent from baseball in 2020. And, um, it's
01:46not perfect. But in order to have baseball, you know, NLB has to weigh
01:50all of their options, and it looks like a universal DH is going to be one of
01:54them.
