MLB gives autonomy to its thirty clubs regarding ticket refunds.
Transcript
00:00Major League Baseball says amidst a postponed season, each team will decide what to do about
00:06ticket sales individually.
00:08As the coronavirus pandemic leaves the start date of the 2020 MLB season in question, the
00:14league has granted its 30 teams autonomy to determine ticket policies for games already
00:18postponed, giving teams the option to provide relief to fans who may need it.
00:23Prior to this announcement, the league had told teams to treat the lost games as postponements,
00:28such as a rainout, for which tickets could be kept and used for a make-up date or another
00:32game.
00:33According to a USA Today report, as of Tuesday, a typical team has already had about 15 games
00:39postponed, or nearly 20 percent of an 81-game schedule.
00:43By the end of May, a time frame now unrealistic for games to begin, about 30 games, or more
00:49than a third of a team's home schedule, will be lost.
00:52The league is opting for club autonomy and against a blanket refund policy because of
00:57the significant variance in ticket policies among individual franchises.
