00:00So what the bill does is it comprehensively ends the practice of no-fault evictions.
00:06It also ensures, as a result, that we do more to prevent homelessness.
00:10It also improves standards in the private rented sector.
00:14And it also makes sure that those landlords who are dealing with anti-social tenants are
00:18in a stronger position to get rid of people who are causing a misery to their neighbours.
00:23Well, everything depends on making sure that we get the bill through tomorrow and then
00:27in the House of Lords.
00:28So I will continue to make the case that getting rid of no-fault evictions, a manifesto
00:34promise from 2019, backed by Boris Johnson, Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak, is delivered.
00:40And I will be making that case to the House of Lords.
00:43Of course, it will be a judgement of the Lords as to how this bill progresses.
00:47But I hope that we can get it on the statute book before the election.
00:51And if the Lords are as enthusiastic as I am about protecting tenants and also strengthening
00:57the position of good landlords, then I know that this bill will have a fair passage and
01:01we can deliver before the general election.
01:03And we can have section 21 ended before the general election.
01:08That's the aim.
01:09That's why we've introduced this bill.
01:11That's why the government is backing it so strongly.
01:13And that's why I hope, even though, of course, the bill can always be improved by thoughtful
01:17amendment, that we will get it on the statute book.
