00:00 She-Hulk debuted in The Savage She-Hulk #1 in 1980.
00:05 She is Jennifer Walters, a gifted but somewhat reserved lawyer and cousin to Bruce Banner.
00:10 She gained her powers thanks to a blood transfusion given to her by Bruce.
00:14 And now that She-Hulk, attorney at law, is bringing her story to the screen, one has
00:18 to ask the big question - are they going to include all of the weird and wonderful details
00:22 about this character that have happened over her comics tenure?
00:25 So let's take a look at them as I'm Jules, this is WhatCulture.com, and these are 10
00:29 Things You Probably Didn't Know About She-Hulk.
00:32 10.
00:33 The Winter Hulk
00:35 In World War She-Hulk, which happened in Avengers #46, the larger, more aggressive Hulk allowed
00:40 herself to be captured by the Russian Winter Guard to see what they had planned against
00:45 Atlantis.
00:46 Once in Russia, she was subjected to a mock trial and found guilty.
00:50 She was then placed into a "mind oven" to brainwash her, fill her with radiation,
00:54 and turn her into a weapon.
00:56 With the Avengers on the way, the procedure was accelerated and, of course, went slightly
01:00 wrong.
01:01 Jennifer broke free and decimated both Winter Guard and any Avengers that got in her way.
01:06 Most of the Winter Guard had been killed or severely injured, while the Avengers were
01:09 only knocked out.
01:11 The Guard's Red Widow had severed her arm to inform her superiors that the Winter Hulk
01:15 had been successfully deployed.
01:17 This Hulk was then sent to confront Namor, however the Russians had not counted on Jennifer's
01:22 skill at controlling her forms.
01:23 The Red Widow had planted a bomb that was intended to destroy 98% of the Atlantean population.
01:29 Despite the Avengers capturing the Red Widow, she was still able to detonate the bomb.
01:33 But Jennifer was able to absorb the 68 megaton gamma yield and released it at Avengers Mountain,
01:40 far away from its intended target in Avengers #50.
01:43 As a result, She-Hulk returned to her intelligent, less bulky form.
01:47 09.
01:48 Feeling Grey
01:49 Having been critically injured by Thanos, things didn't look too good for Walters.
01:53 But then again, this is comics, so of course she resurrected.
01:56 But she did so to the news that Hawkeye had killed her cousin, albeit at Bruce's request,
02:01 and had been acquitted of the crime.
02:03 Leaving super-heroics behind again, Jennifer tries to focus on her lore career.
02:07 However, the stress of the ongoing Second Superhero Civil War, instigated by Captain
02:12 Marvel and Iron Man, caused her to change into a more heavily muscled, but simple-minded
02:17 grey form.
02:18 Becoming part of a new lore firm, Jennifer was assigned the case of Maisie Broon, a recently
02:22 changed inhuman recluse, whose landlord was threatening to evict her from her apartment.
02:27 Despite Jen working her case, Maisie grew impatient and created a fear golem that killed
02:32 her landlord, a few police officers, and tried to kill the She-Hulk.
02:36 The golem was then destroyed, and Maisie was arrested.
02:39 And She-Hulk nearly killed a hulked out man named Oliver, if not for the intervention
02:43 of her friend Patsy Walker.
02:45 After a confrontation with the leader in She-Hulk #161, Jen was approached by the self-help
02:50 guru Florida Mayor, who offered her to help her with her issues.
02:53 She took a special pill and had a confrontation with Thanos and her own Hulk persona in her
02:57 subconscious.
02:58 When she came to, she had destroyed the room, but she was back in her green form once more.

03:04 Jennifer Walters - Bounty Hunter
03:06 Sir Mallory Brooke was the star lawyer at GLKNH before Jennifer Walters arrived, and
03:11 thus she always had a chip on her shoulder for the chaos that She-Hulk had brought into
03:15 her life.
03:16 She began setting up circumstances that caused Jen to get disbarred for violating attorney-client
03:20 privileges.
03:21 Leaving both her lives as a lawyer and a superhero behind, she began working for Freeman Bonding
03:26 Incorporated as a bounty hunter.
03:28 Her partner in this new job was Jacinda, the daughter of the Super Skrull.
03:33 After successfully capturing the minor armed villain Highlight, Jennifer and Jacinda tracked
03:37 a bomber named Bran Murphy to Cleveland, where they discovered that he was the host for the
03:41 Celtic god Bran the Blessed.
03:43 Bran and Demigod and sometimes Avenger Hercules battled throughout the city until Jacinda
03:48 nearly killed the man to get the Celtic god out of him.
03:51 Jacinda then revealed to She-Hulk that the Skrulls had invaded Earth.
03:55 In 2008's Secret Invasion tie-in, the Peter David written X-Factor #34 saw the pair travel
04:00 to Detroit, Michigan to confront the Skrull that was posing as Longshot.
04:04 They were at first opposed and then aided by members of X-Factor Investigations.
04:09 After freeing humans from a small Skrull ship, they were then attacked by the Super Skrull
04:13 who planned to kill his daughter for betraying the Empire.
04:16 The exposed Longshot nearly fatally injured Jacinda and was left in She-Hulk's care,
04:21 but thankfully she was later apprehended by SWORD.
04:23 7.
04:24 Do You Take This Man-Wolf?
04:26 Now Jennifer has had many successful cases while working at GLK&H.
04:31 One of these was aiding Spider-Man in suing the Daily Bugle and its publisher J. Jonah
04:35 Jameson.
04:36 Over the course of the case, Jen met Jameson's son, former astronaut and occasional man-wolf
04:41 John Jameson, and the pair began dating.
04:43 At the end of the first Civil War, She-Hulk regained the ability to change forms again
04:47 after Doctor Strange removed Wanda's spell on her.
04:50 John and Jen were so happy that they then eloped to Las Vegas.
04:53 Gifts started coming in rapidly, but it was all apparently a scheme by Alastor Smythe
04:58 to ruin Jameson's life and his subsequent happiness.
05:00 He made him turn back into the man-wolf and then was shot with a silver bullet, turning
05:04 him into the Star-God.
05:06 Eventually John got control of himself but told She-Hulk that he would not transform
05:10 back to human form unless She did as well.
05:13 During this time, She-Hulk had to defend against a case of sexual harassment and manipulation
05:17 being brought against former Avenger, Star Fox.
05:19 Eros of Titan was an Eternal who had the ability to stimulate the pleasure centers of people's
05:24 minds and make them fall in love, or feel desire or feel arousal and other emotions.
05:29 Jennifer learned that Star Fox had used this power on Jen to make her fall for John, and
05:33 therefore she had the marriage annulled in She-Hulk #20.
05:36 6. GLKNH In her 2004 self-titled comic written by Dan
05:42 Slott and pencilled by Juan Bobillo, She-Hulk was at an all-time low after being found guilty
05:47 of causing plentiful destruction.
05:49 And into the bar where She-Hulk was, er, failing to get drunk, walked Holden Holloway.
05:53 He hired her to the new superhuman law division of his firm, Goodman, Lieber, Kurtzberg and
05:58 Holloway.
05:59 The proviso being that he was hiring Jennifer Walters and not the She-Hulk.
06:03 Jennifer was invited to join the Living Tribunal's magistrate to arbitrate cases across time
06:08 and space.
06:09 And so she travelled to the planet Skarden to free it from the rule of the Champion of
06:12 the Universe.
06:13 There she stayed and trained for a week to increase her strength in her She-Hulk form
06:17 in order to defeat the Elder.
06:19 When she returned to Earth, she had to wear a special suit to regulate her strength.
06:23 Few of the employees at GLKNH were as unusual or loyal as Awesome Andy.
06:28 He was actually the Mad Thinker's awesome android.
06:30 And when the Mad Thinker made adjustments to his creation to copy more than just powers,
06:35 Andy copied Thor's nobility and helped the hero capture the Mad Thinker.
06:39 He then hired a lawyer to prove that he was a victim and not a willing participant.
06:42 And as he had no money, he took a job at the firm to pay his fee and ended up staying there.

06:48 When She-Hulk Broke Bone
06:50 In the Avengers Red Zone story arc that began in issue #65, the team had gone to Mount Rushmore
06:55 to solve the mystery of the Red Mist, and found that it was actually a government-created
06:59 fire weapon.
07:01 When She-Hulk opened a locked door, she discovered a room full of AIM operatives, who opened
07:05 fire and damaged her protective suit.
07:07 Her fellow Avenger, Jack of Hearts, got her out of the building, but his powers drew the
07:11 gamma radiation from her body, transforming her into a human form where she succumbed
07:15 to the virus.
07:16 She later transformed into a savage She-Hulk and tore through the team before disappearing.
07:21 Jen tried to follow Bruce's example and lay low whilst wandering through small-town America.
07:26 However, her Avengers teammates had been looking for her, and when she was face to face with
07:30 the Scarlet Witch, the fear and frustration of losing control caused her to turn into
07:33 an out of control version.
07:35 The entire team was unable to stop her, and she destroyed a large part of Bone, Idaho.
07:40 Hawkeye and Bruce Banner arrived to try and calm Jennifer down, but they were equally
07:43 unsuccessful.
07:45 Clint was able to get She-Hulk out of town, and then forced Bruce to transform into the
07:49 Hulk to make the fight more evenly matched.
07:51 Finally, it was the arrival of Jack of Hearts who used his powers to finally balance the
07:55 proper amount of gamma radiation in her body and return her to normality.
07:59 4.
08:00 Juggling Two Lives
08:02 Jennifer found it easier to focus on just one aspect of her life, either the lawyer
08:07 or the superhero, but when she tried to juggle the two, it often got her into trouble.
08:11 She-Hulk had left the Avengers after the fiasco where Dr. Druid and Nebula had mentally taken
08:16 the team over, but she returned when Steve Rogers also returned and reorganized the team
08:20 in Avengers #305.
08:22 At nearly the same time, Jen was hired to work as a lawyer in the office of District
08:26 Attorney Blake Tower.
08:27 Jennifer's work in the DA's office kept her from attending several Avengers missions.
08:32 She also ended up breaking up with her boyfriend Wyatt Wingfoot not long after getting engaged.
08:36 Ultimately, Jen found that it was Tower's assistant, Louise Mason, who had actually
08:40 pushed him to hire the Jade Giantess, as the Golden Age superhero blonde phantom Wheezy
08:45 wanted to be featured in a comic again before she died of old age.
08:49 Coming from space in a Flying 59 Dodge after fighting the alien Zemu, She-Hulk found that
08:54 her superheroics were actually getting in the way of her being a lawyer.
08:57 During a trial, opposing counsel stated that she influenced the jury in her favor simply
09:01 by being a hero.
09:03 Faced with this possibility in future cases, Tower fired Waters, and Mason quit as well
09:08 but joined Jennifer in her solo practice.
09:10 3.
09:11 A Real Team Player
09:12 She-Hulk has been a member of numerous teams over her long history in comics.
09:17 Jennifer Waters' first and most frequent team affiliation is that of the Avengers,
09:21 and she joined the premier super team in Avengers #221 at the request of Janet Van Dyne, aka
09:26 the Wasp.
09:27 And Waters began a good-natured but adversarial relationship with veteran Avenger Hawkeye.
09:32 Clint also coined the name 'Shulkie' as a way to get under her skin.
09:36 Jen would then leave the team for a variety of reasons, but would always return when called
09:39 upon.
09:40 The other major team where Jennifer made her mark was the Fantastic Four.
09:43 After the events of the first Secret War, Ben Grimm, The Thing, chose to stay on Battleworld.
09:48 He personally asked She-Hulk to step in as his replacement on the team in Fantastic Four
09:52 #265.
09:53 She-Hulk became trapped in the Microverse alone and under the thrall of the Psycho Man.
09:58 She had to rediscover her courage to save the kingdom of Queen Perla.
10:01 Additionally, She-Hulk was a member of the all-female teams A-Force and Lady Liberators.
10:06 She was also a member of the initiative-based Defenders and a Rogue team as well.
10:10 Jen also became part of the Heroes for Hire whilst in a relationship with Luke Cage, in
10:14 addition to working briefly for S.H.I.E.L.D.
10:16 #2.
10:17 She prefers the green life
10:18 Now at first, understandably concerned about what was happening to her, Jennifer soon found
10:23 that she not only liked, but actually preferred to spend most of her time in her altered form.
10:27 Jen was a kind, empathetic, and studious person, and part of her bonding time with the young
10:32 Bruce was hours spent in the library reading books together.
10:35 After her change, she became more comfortable in the She-Hulk form and found new confidence,
10:40 assertiveness, and a more fun-loving nature.
10:42 When radiation robbed her of her ability to change back to Jennifer on one occasion, she
10:46 wasn't even bothered.
10:47 One of the key changes involved in this is that it lowered or even removed Jennifer's
10:51 inhibitions.
10:52 She only had a few relationships and not many sexual partners before the change.
10:56 After her transformation into She-Hulk, she became more invested in relationships.
11:00 But apparently her air-quote "party girl" antics got out of hand so much that she was
11:04 once politely asked to move out of the Avengers Mansion.
11:08 But something that hasn't changed over the years is Walter's skill as a lawyer.
11:11 She is compassionate and caring and has a history of fighting for the rights of minorities,
11:16 civil liberties, the mentally ill, and the wrongly incarcerated.
11:19 She is a strong believer in the ideals of law and order, but isn't afraid to go up
11:23 against a law that is wrong, like changing her opinion on the Superhero Registration
11:27 Act.
11:28 1.
11:29 Only Occasionally Savage
11:31 Unlike the Hulk, She-Hulk rarely falls into extreme fits of anger that make her air-quote
11:35 "savage".
11:36 And usually those occasions are only often triggered by outside circumstances.
11:40 Jennifer always has to keep an eye on her anger or stress levels, but there are a few
11:43 occasions where she lets go and goes over the edge.
11:46 One of the first times that this happened was when Scarlet Witch lost control of her
11:49 powers and caused the decimation of the Avengers.
11:52 Jennifer lost control as well and became enraged, growing in size and savagery.
11:56 Here she grabbed the Vision and ripped the Synthoid completely in half.
12:00 In The Sensational She-Hulk #15, Jennifer began to manifest a grey version of the She-Hulk.
12:05 This manifestation only came out at night, had the reasoning of a child, and referred
12:09 to herself in the third person.
12:10 This "grey shulky" often referred to her human side as "puny Jennifer", in a manner
12:15 similar to that spoken by Banner's Hulk.
12:17 The most recent example of this was when the Dark Celestials attacked Earth and began to
12:21 infect their brethren.
12:23 She-Hulk was near the site of the Searchers' Landfall, and the Celestial gave the hero
12:26 an additional dose of gamma radiation.
12:28 This made her larger, bulkier, and more savage in her hulked out form.
12:33 After the villain's defeat, Jennifer began referring to herself as "Hulk", spoke
12:36 in a stilted form of English, and aggressively pursued a sexual relationship with Thor in
12:41 Jason Aaron and David Marquez's Avengers #8.
12:44 And there we go my friends, those were 10 things you probably didn't know about She-Hulk.
12:48 I hope that you enjoyed that, and please let me know what you thought about it down in
