SI Insider: The Calm Before the Storm for College Football
Transcript
00:00This week in college athletics has basically been the calm before the storm.
00:10There hasn't been a lot of definitive movement or decisions made in terms of whether we will
00:15have a football season, but that time is coming.
00:18Probably in the next week to 10 days, maybe two weeks, we should be starting to get some
00:23much more clear indications of whether or not we're going to try to play college football.
00:29Specifically, the power conferences that have not made any declarations about their schedules,
00:34the SEC, Big 12, and ACC, will probably announce in some form of lockstep fashion by the end
00:41of July or the first few days of August whether they're aspiring to still play 12 games, whether
00:46they're curtailing back to 10, 9, 8.
00:49And then we may have a couple of weeks or a few days after that where schools will be
00:54waiting to see whether or not they can play at all, and I think they'll be taking cues
00:58at that point from governor's offices, state legislatures, obviously public health officials,
01:05and whatever basically the health parameters are within their states, and also then within
01:10their conferences.
01:11So this week has just kind of been a little bit of a waiting game.
01:15I think next week we'll start to see more substantive news coming out about what the
01:19fall is going to look like in college sports.
