NFL will use MLB playbook and be playing football in the fall: Unchecked
Transcript
00:00There's been a lot of talk about how the outbreak amongst the Marlins and MLB might
00:08impact the NFL.
00:09And while I've seen plenty of discussion about concerns, I haven't seen much about
00:13the possible precedent being set.
00:16Because if baseball can make it through this, you know damn well Roger Goodell and company
00:20will attempt to play football in the fall, through almost anything.
00:24I say that without judgment really, because I am both rooting for sports to happen and
00:29absolutely concerned about safety.
00:31And unfortunately for sports leagues, for those not bubbled like the NBA, they're at
00:36the mercy of current circumstances and the response from leadership of the country.
00:40Also, football obviously brings specific challenges on its own when it comes to roster sizes and
00:45the nature of the sport.
00:47However, what about the past actions of the NFL would make anyone think they would consider
00:51stopping play unless they were absolutely forced to?
00:55Due to timing, up until now, they've basically been able to ignore the existence of the pandemic.
01:01Of course, that can no longer be the case, but that doesn't mean they won't just go
01:04with the cliche football mentality of attempting to power through it.
01:09Individuals will make their own decisions, but we already know that the league believes
01:13itself bigger than almost anything, to which they would probably cite the ratings.
01:17So while I have no idea how it will work out, it'd be naive to believe the NFL won't be
01:22kicking off, as it would take a scenario I hope never happens for them to stop.
