00:00 The SEC has released a statement regarding the Big Ten and Pac-12 cancellations, and
00:07 it sounds like the Southeastern Conference isn't quite ready to call it quits.
00:11 Joining me now from the Grove Report is Nate Gabler.
00:15 Nate, Commissioner Greg Sankey made it clear that another conference's decision is more
00:20 of a guiding factor and not a decider for the SEC, but now that the Big Ten and Pac-12
00:26 have both postponed the season, where does the SEC stand?
00:31 Correct.
00:32 I mean, Sankey said this morning in an interview with the Dan Patrick Show that what other
00:39 conferences do is more of a guided line for what they'll do, just a sort of another piece
00:44 of information to the puzzle, but it doesn't necessarily prove their decision one way or
00:49 the other.
00:51 Really within the last few minutes of when we got on the phone here, the Big 12 has voted
00:56 to continue playing with their season, moving along with the dates they prior set, and that
01:03 goes along with something the SEC and the ACC said this afternoon following the cancellation
01:09 of the Big Ten and the Big 12, just that that is something that they will factor in.
01:14 Greg Sankey, the commissioner of the SEC, said in his statement that he was looking
01:18 forward to seeing what information led those other conferences to move in the direction
01:23 that they did, but that those decisions won't necessarily impact the decisions made by the
01:28 SEC and the ACC moving forward.
01:32 So the ACC released its own statement on Tuesday, just moments before the SEC, and it seems
01:38 that they are working in sync, but let's talk about the Big 12.
01:42 You just mentioned it.
01:43 They've decided that they're going to move forward.
01:45 Do you think that helps strengthen the SEC in their decision making to also move forward?
01:50 Yes, so the ACC and the SEC statements following the cancellation of the Big Ten and the Pac
01:57 12 really came within minutes of each other, quite literally.
02:02 So it seemed like those two conferences were making decisions in sync.
02:06 The Big 12 then just became a fifth component where two of the conferences were postponing
02:15 to the spring and two of them were trying to continue playing in the fall.
02:19 So what that fifth linchpin there did kind of became even more important.
02:24 And as you mentioned, the Big 12 is planning on moving forward and playing fall football.
02:30 So that certainly helps optically with these other conferences' decisions to at least hold
02:35 Pat for now.
02:36 Well, Ade, that started to seem like we may have no college football.
02:40 It seems to be turning around with this Big 12 news.
02:43 Thank you so much, Nate, for joining me.
02:44 I appreciate your insight on the SEC.
02:47 Thank you.
02:47 Thank you.
02:48 Thank you.
