Should MLB Cancel the Season?
Transcript
00:00 Tonight's Brewers Cardinals game has been postponed due to a positive coronavirus test
00:05 within the St. Louis Cardinals organization.
00:07 That would mean the Nationals, Marlins, Blue Jays, Phillies, Brewers, and Cardinals games
00:11 all postponed due to COVID-19.
00:14 That's 20% of the league.
00:15 For more on that, I'm joined by our Ben Pickman and Corey Parson.
00:19 Corey, when you look at this, does it make you think that the Major League Baseball season
00:23 is in serious jeopardy?
00:24 Yeah, I think we got to start taking that into consideration.
00:28 Earlier this week, I kind of felt like they had a chance to figure it out and that it
00:31 was kind of contained to one specific situation.
00:34 But now as you see it start to spread across the league, you really have to think, Rob
00:37 Manfred and these guys, got to figure out something and figure out something fast.
00:40 It's unfortunate, but listen, when you're not in a centralized location and when you're
00:45 traveling around the country, I think it's very difficult to get this done.
00:48 I hope they can pull it off, but it doesn't look promising right now.
00:52 And so far, it looks like the bubbles have worked.
00:54 Obviously, the NBA making its return last night.
00:57 Ben, what does this make you think about the upcoming NFL season and non-bubbled sports
01:02 in general?
01:04 It's obviously worrisome.
01:05 I mean, as you mentioned, 20 percent of the Major League Baseball teams are currently
01:10 postponed tonight as a result of COVID-19.
01:13 And so it doesn't bode well for the NFL, who has a ton more players and more staff that
01:18 they would need to potentially quarantine in a bubble if they somehow decided to go
01:22 that route.
01:23 But without a bubble, it seems like this virus is going to spread like a virus.
01:28 Breaking news on that front.
01:30 It was interesting on the NBA front.
01:32 If you look ahead to next year, Michelle Roberts, the head of the NBA, said that they might
01:36 actually have to consider using a bubble next year as well.
01:40 And so it gives you a little bit of framing as to what the NBA might be thinking ahead.
01:44 The NFL looks like it's proceeding without a bubble.
01:46 MLB currently is proceeding without a bubble.
01:49 And we're starting to see the effects of making those decisions.
01:52 Yeah, right now they're just trying to play through it.
01:54 But it seems like a bubble or playing in another country is the only way to have sports without
01:59 the virus spreading.
02:00 Hopefully these seasons can finish.
02:02 But certainly there are concerns.
02:05 Ben, Corey, appreciate your time.
