PGA Championship Day 2 Recap
Transcript
00:00 Well, it was supposed to be a primetime showdown in round two of the PGA Championship turned
00:05 into a bit of a slog on Friday night.
00:07 The marquee names Tiger Woods, Justin Thomas and Rory McIlroy all struggled a bit, eventually
00:13 just making the cut as all three players had trouble with the conditions which toughened
00:18 very much so in the afternoon in San Francisco.
00:22 Your leader after round two is Hao-Tung Lee who played in the morning.
00:26 He fired a five under par 65 and Lee leads the PGA Championship at eight under par.
00:32 Here's a couple key takeaways from round two in San Francisco.
00:36 Who is Hao-Tung Lee?
00:38 Well, he's a 25 year old from China who hasn't played a whole lot on the PGA Tour.
00:42 In fact, he has just 25 PGA Tour sanctioned starts.
00:47 His best finish was a third place finish back at the Open Championship in 2017.
00:52 After the round on Friday, Lee talked about possibly becoming the first man from China
00:57 to ever win a major championship saying he's not really thinking about that.
01:01 He's just trying to have fun out there after spending so much time at home during the pandemic
01:06 layoff.
01:07 But no doubt Lee knows what's at stake.
01:09 Close to six hours after his round was finished on Friday, he was seen on the putting green
01:14 and driving range working on his game.
01:17 Two-time defending PGA champ Brooks Koepka is in perfect position following a two under
01:22 par 68.
01:24 Very much in contention for that three-peat.
01:27 But it's got to be concerning to see what Koepka went through in round two.
01:29 He was seen multiple times throughout the round getting treatment from his physio trainer
01:35 on the golf course.
01:36 It's on his left leg.
01:37 Now, you remember Koepka injured his knee last year.
01:40 He had stem cell treatment and then re-aggravated that injury when he slipped on cement in Korea
01:45 back in the fall.
01:47 Brooks after the round said it was actually his hip that was tight.
01:50 It tightened up overnight.
01:52 He woke up feeling that way.
01:53 Classified it as no big deal.
01:55 But it should be very interesting to see if Brooks can weather this health situation and
02:00 still contend over the next 36 holes.
02:03 Two key things to keep an eye on in round two.
02:06 On Saturday, can Dustin Johnson find his way in contention?
02:10 He fired a 67 on Friday.
02:12 He is just a couple shots off the lead.
02:15 Can DJ finally redeem himself after throwing away the Wanamaker trophy at Whistling Straits
02:21 back in 2010?
02:23 And keep an eye on Daniel Berger who was right in the hunt.
02:26 He shot 67 on Friday.
02:28 Just a couple shots off the lead.
02:29 He's one of the hottest golfers on the planet over the last six months.
02:33 Berger seems primed for the first major title of his career.
