What are the expectations for Steelers QB Kenny Pickett?
Transcript
00:00Pick quarterback Kenny Pickett was drafted in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft at pick number 20 overall.
00:07I'm Claudette Montana-Pattison with SI right now, joined by the NFL Draftbibles Rick Serratella.
00:13Rick, what are your expectations for Kenny Pickett in year one? Can he give Mitchell Trubisky a run for his money?
00:19Absolutely, Claudette. Hey, slow and steady wins the race here. I think Kenny Pickett is going to have all the time that he needs to develop.
00:27And when the time comes, Pittsburgh will insert him. But I think this is Mitchell Trubisky's job to lose.
00:35They'll go into battle with Trubisky. Hey, listen, Mike Tomlin has never had a losing record in his
00:42career and there's a reason for that. So they're going to go with the veteran guy. They're going to
00:46run that gas until the tank goes on E. And at some point in time, Mitchell Trubisky, most likely based
00:53on his track record and resume, is going to falter. And listen, Pittsburgh wanted to open up this
00:58offense. They wanted to make it more RPO friendly, have the quarterbacks be able to buy time in the
01:03pocket and extend plays. Both of these quarterbacks, Trubisky and Pickett, can do that. I think Pickett
01:09can actually push the ball downfield a little bit more. Deontay Johnson can stretch the field.
01:14You got Mapletron Claypool, who can play above the rim and go vertical. So I think
01:21those play into Kenny Pickett's strengths. By the end of the season, at some point,
01:26Kenny Pickett will be in there. He's a gunslinger and I think Mike Tomlin's going to like his mentality.
