In Situ - Linz09

  • vor 15 Jahren
It was a sunny weekend and we decided to have a closer look on the new stencils we recognized the last weeks in various places throughout Linz. Properly equipped with a map from the IN SITU website we started our exploration. See the output of this interesting and emotional day

Signs inscribed in squares and buildings make Linzs Nazi past visible.

IN SITU jogs the citys collective memory by means of inconspicuous signals. Temporary signs in the public space pinpoint sites of Nazi terror in Linz. The locations of key institutions of the Nazi system, such as the seat of the Gestapo in Langgasse are included alongside the sites where Jews were persecuted and of the everyday Nazi terror as exemplified by denunciations. By linking concrete places to what happened IN SITU the history of the Nazi policies of persecution and extermination is made temporarily accessible for Linzers. IN SITU sees itself as a mediation project that combines scientific research with artistic interventions.
