00:00 Short notice flight cancellations in 2023 were at their highest in eight years. So from
00:06 a passenger's point of view, how would you react to being in the airport and you're going
00:13 away and you get a really long delay at a really short notice?
00:17 I think the most important thing for me would be to, you know, try and keep my head. I think
00:21 under pressured situations, you can't panic. I think the most important thing to do is
00:27 to just try and keep abreast of whatever information is available to you, as well as knowing your
00:32 rights. In particular, it's important to know if you're leaving or arriving at a UK airport
00:37 or if you're travelling within the EU and that's through a UK airline, then the following
00:42 rules will apply to you. So if you're delayed more than two hours for short haul, more than
00:47 three hours for a medium haul and more than four hours for a long haul, that means that
00:53 it's your airline's responsibility under UK law to make sure that you've been provided
00:57 with care and assistance by your airline. That includes food and drink. They'll usually
01:01 give you a voucher to spend at the airport, allow you to communicate so they might be
01:06 able to refund any calls that you have to make to rearrange any travel plans. Accommodation,
01:11 if your flight's delayed or cancelled until the next day and travel to and from that accommodation
01:17 or your home if you decide to go back there. So if your flight's been delayed or cancelled,
01:21 the airline should keep you abreast of all the information. They should inform you when
01:26 you'll be able to fly to your destination, but it is law that they have to get you to
01:29 where you want to go. The process of getting compensation and you are, if you arrive more
01:37 than three hours late to your destination, you will be entitled to between 220 and 520
01:43 pounds compensation depending on whether it's short haul or long haul, but that is only
01:48 if it's your airline's fault. If it's something like weather or strikes or something like
01:51 that, then you're not entitled to compensation.
