00:00 - Dwayne Price, Math.com.
00:02 Kyrie, what happened there in the second quarter
00:05 when you guys only scored eight points?
00:08 (laughs)
00:10 - In a playoff game, man, scoring eight points
00:13 feels like forever.
00:15 That's what it felt like out there.
00:16 I think it started with just how we started off
00:19 the second quarter and allowed them to feel
00:23 very comfortable in that first quarter
00:24 and there was carryover.
00:26 I think we gotta give them credit for hitting shots
00:29 and doing the right things and capitalizing
00:30 off our turnovers and also our lack of physicality.
00:35 So it was a combination of a lot of those things
00:37 where we allowed them to feel comfortable
00:38 on the offensive end and then defensively
00:41 made it easier just in terms of our spacing.
00:43 So give them credit.
00:44 - I'm sorry, how do you slow down Zubat
00:46 going into game two?
00:47 He had a double-double at halftime today.
00:49 - Yeah, just being mentally prepared
00:51 and physically prepared to match his energy
00:55 kind of threw us for a little bit of a loop
00:59 when they started off the game with him posting up.
01:03 So just gotta make adjustments and keep him
01:05 off the offensive glass and just make it tough
01:08 for him on those pick and rolls
01:09 and again, just match his energy.
01:12 - Mike Curtis with Dallas Morning News.
01:16 Obviously a week between games and even longer
01:19 for you and Luca, just how much did the long layoff
01:21 kind of play into the first half, just offensive low?
01:25 - Yeah, we knew we were gonna have to knock off some rust.
01:29 And us as a team, we have guys that have missed
01:33 three weeks, two weeks, Timmy not being here
01:36 for the past few days of preparation.
01:39 I'm not saying those things as an excuse,
01:40 it's just internally those things matter
01:42 for the importance of what we're getting ready for.
01:46 After the first half, we came into the locker room
01:48 as a team and we talked about the things
01:49 that we felt like we weren't doing
01:51 and the things that we need to continue doing
01:53 at a very high level.
01:55 But it really centered around the foundational point
01:58 of talking about physicality and this being the playoffs.
02:00 A lot of guys aren't used to being here.
02:03 A few young guys aren't used to being here
02:04 so they don't know what they can get away with
02:06 and what the refs are gonna call.
02:07 So I think this was a great first test for us
02:10 and we obviously failed and we came out with a loss.
02:14 But I think there are some things we can take into game too
02:18 as strengths that we can continue to push forward
02:20 and utilize and just not overthink it.
02:24 Again, I talked about this a few weeks back,
02:25 just it's a series, not a time to lose confidence.
02:29 We know our guys, some of my teammates
02:32 are gonna shoot better going into game two
02:34 and we just wanna continue to feed them confidence
02:36 and see where we can control what we can control
02:38 and then stop them on the offensive end.
02:41 - Tim Cato, Tim Cato with The Athletic.
02:43 I was gonna ask about the improved second half.
02:45 You obviously just covered the physicality
02:47 and what you guys did at halftime.
02:49 How much of it was adjustments and just kind of tweaks
02:52 to some of the things that you guys
02:54 brought into the first half
02:55 and how does that change a series for game one
02:58 for some adjustments already to be thrown out there?
03:01 - Wait, ask that one more time, bro.
03:04 You asked a lot.
03:05 - Yeah, so.
03:06 (laughing)
03:07 - You can just simplify the question for me.
03:09 I know we got our guy over here, NBA PR.
03:11 Just don't feel the pressure, man.
03:12 Just ask your question, come on, man.
03:14 - How much was the improved play
03:15 based off some adjustments you guys made?
03:17 - Okay, I appreciate that, yeah.
03:18 - And then how much was,
03:20 how much does that change the rest of the series?
03:22 Because we all know series,
03:24 there's adjustments happening all the time.
03:25 - Yeah, yeah, I think there was a settling in process,
03:27 a grounding process,
03:29 and I think that's what I was referring to
03:30 in the last question, just a few of our young guys,
03:33 including myself, just settling it into our game plan,
03:36 trusting it.
03:37 They don't have Kawhi right now,
03:40 so that was a bit of an adjustment for us
03:41 when they came out the gates and they were playing,
03:44 I would say James and Paul, just playing very free,
03:47 very loose, knew they were gonna get
03:48 a lot of temps up tonight.
03:50 So when you have that as a,
03:51 when you're going against that type of kind of loose play
03:54 and that confidence that they exude,
03:57 you gotta really just settle into what
03:59 the overall game plan is and execute that.
04:02 And I don't think that we came out very flat
04:04 or without energy,
04:05 I just think that our mind was all over the place
04:08 as our first playoff game together,
04:09 we gotta settle in.
04:11 And once we did that in the second half,
04:13 then I felt like we put some stops together,
04:15 we got some great offensive possessions
04:17 and our confidence started to get a little higher
04:20 and you can see that we were starting to look like
04:22 the Dallas Mavericks we know ourselves to be.
04:24 So it's the first game of a long series
04:27 and excited to see what happens game two.
