00:00 A headteacher in West London has announced plans to introduce a 12-hour school day
00:06 in a bid to tackle pupils' addictions to smartphones.
00:09 Mr O'Neill, a former headteacher of the year and whose school is rated
00:13 Outstanded by Ofsted, said that a number of pupils were falling victim to online crime,
00:18 including cyberbullying, sexting and blackmailing.
00:21 The head said he had found some of the most shocking things I've ever seen
00:25 on confiscated phones. Among the worrying messages he found
00:29 were pupils blackmailing strangers and even engaging in catfishing.
00:34 Pupils at All Saints Catholic College in Notting Hill
00:37 will be expected to arrive at 7am and stay until 7pm.
00:41 They will participate in dodgeball, basketball, art, drama and cookery classes
00:46 rather than going home straight after classes to spend hours on their smartphones.
00:51 O'Neill hopes pupils can experience a childhood like he had growing up in Barton,
00:55 where children played outside rather than engaging in online entertainment.
