00:08:02I got my passport from an acquaintance of my uncle.
00:08:07So, you say you fled North Korea in 2010.
00:08:11Hello, you fled to China in 2019.
00:08:14But you never really started working there, it seems.
00:08:18How did you get the money for a fake passport and the flight ticket to Brussels?
00:08:24Well...
00:08:27My mother...
00:08:29His mother.
00:08:30So it was your mother who gave you the money?
00:08:33Did her mother give you the money?
00:08:55Mom, aren't you eating?
00:08:57I'm not hungry.
00:08:59If you eat a meal alone on your birthday,
00:09:02happiness will find you and you'll survive everywhere without starvation.
00:09:09Hey, the length of the noodles in the birthday soup
00:09:12doesn't reflect the length of your life, so don't bite off.
00:09:15Oh, got it.
00:09:30Mom, are you working today?
00:09:33Everyone is looking for a warm place on cold days.
00:09:36And that means more money for us.
00:09:40I'm young and healthy, but I'll let you work
00:09:44while I'm just sitting here lazily.
00:09:47I'll tell you one thing.
00:09:48There is no greater happiness for every mother in the world
00:09:51than to have a healthy child.
00:09:53That's all I want until we leave this country.
00:09:56That's all I want until we leave this country.
00:09:59I'm fine.
00:10:07I wish...
00:10:11I had seen away when the boss beat up John Chin.
00:10:15Then I wouldn't have to hide and let you work.
00:10:18I'm sorry.
00:10:19You're starting again.
00:10:21You saved the little boy.
00:10:25That was luck, so don't be so hard on yourself.
00:10:28Yeah, it's fine.
00:10:31Don't come back so late.
00:10:34Unfortunately, I have no influence on that.
00:10:40Oh, and by the way...
00:10:44Happy birthday.
00:10:54Thank you.

01:02:18Sojapaste.
01:02:19Stäbchen.
01:02:20Und noch ein paar Schüsseln für alle Fälle.
01:02:41Ich hätte sie dann nur gern sauber zurück.
01:02:43Herzlichen Dank.
01:03:11Warum stehst du?
01:03:14Setz dich.
01:03:17Ist nichts Besonderes.
01:03:19Ist, solange es heiß ist.
01:03:22Sag mal, hast du das alles gekauft?
01:03:26Hab gar nichts gekauft.
01:03:27Das hab ich gefunden.
01:03:29Was?
01:03:33Keine Sorge.
01:03:34Ich hab's ja nicht aus dem Müll.
01:03:36Frühmorgens am Markt kann man sich einfach mitnehmen.
01:03:39Was da nicht verkauft wurde.
01:03:41Ich geh da täglich hin und hol mir irgendwas.
01:04:39Ich geh dann mal.
01:04:53Ist gut.
01:04:58Bleib du hier.
01:05:00Unsinn.
01:05:01Es ist dunkel draußen.
01:05:09Was ist das?
01:05:10Es ist 21 Uhr.
01:05:12Sie verteilen Teewasser für die Nacht.
01:05:14Die meisten hier sind nämlich Chinesen.
01:05:17Hol dir welches.
01:05:18Trink Tee.
01:05:21Warte.
01:08:02Aber...
01:08:05Ich hab Ihnen alles gesagt, was ich weiß.
01:10:21Ich will endlich mal was anderes als dieses blöde Fleisch essen.
01:10:24Alles klar.
01:10:25Wo sind die?
01:10:27Die dort?
01:10:28Da.
01:10:33Auf geht's.
01:10:43Was hast du mit meiner Biere gemacht?
01:10:46Hey!
01:10:47Er hat meine Biere fallen lassen!
01:10:52Gib es mir wieder!
01:10:55Nochmal nicht!
01:10:58Digga, digga.
01:11:00Hey, guys.
01:11:02Go home.

01:11:32Help!
01:11:33Help!
01:11:41I told you to leave me alone.
01:11:46Marie, did you ever recommend Ilse to anyone?
01:11:51Why do you care?
01:11:54What happened?
01:11:55He threw himself at my husband.
01:11:57He attacked him like that.
01:11:59I'm sorry.
01:12:04Next.
01:12:10Kee Wan Loo.
01:12:11The one who was injured last night.
01:12:13Relative or right-hand man?
01:12:14No.
01:12:15Then I can't let you see him.
01:12:18I just want to see how he's doing.
01:12:20Unfortunately, that's not possible.
01:12:23And what's going to happen to him?
01:12:25If he doesn't make the decision within three days,
01:12:27the deportation process will begin.
01:12:29Or you will now be subject to caution.
01:12:35Shit!
01:12:36Madam, I beg you.
01:12:37You are in a police station.
01:12:42Hey.
01:12:43You don't know anything at all.
01:12:45Huh?
01:12:46You don't give a shit.
01:12:47Careful, madam.
01:12:48I'm not done yet.
01:12:51If you send him back,
01:12:53he will be sentenced to death.
01:12:55Isn't that terrible?
01:12:56Huh?
01:12:57Do you think that's okay?
01:12:59Marie.
01:13:21I...
01:13:25Go.
01:13:26I have something to do.
01:13:38Here.
01:13:39A lawyer I know well.
01:13:42I heard they are in the refugee recognition process.
01:13:46He will certainly be able to help you.
01:13:49I am really grateful to you.
01:13:52Thank you.
01:13:54I have a favor to ask.
01:13:56Yes?
01:13:57I'm all ears.
01:13:58My daughter...
01:14:01She always plays the strong one.
01:14:03But she is very vulnerable.
01:14:06She needs a person by her side who can support her.
01:14:10Not someone who is looking for help like you.
01:14:15Uh...
01:14:16Listen, if...
01:14:17I wish you never to see each other again.
01:14:20You have to see that you will survive in this country.
01:14:23Everything else is only secondary, isn't it?
01:14:46I love you.
01:15:17Hello?
01:15:19Mr. Attorney.
01:15:20Are you ready?
01:15:22Yes.
01:15:23Then come.
01:15:32Two months ago,
01:15:34Mr. Loh provided information
01:15:37that only a North Korean citizen could know.
01:15:41However,
01:15:42this request was rejected.
01:15:46Please comment on the reason for the refusal of the request.
01:15:50The hospital where Mr. Loh claims to have sold his mother's body
01:15:55and did not acquire it...
01:15:57You deny that you bought the body.
01:15:59The photos of the product later were taken in Pyongyang,
01:16:02but they could have been visited by Chinese tourists.
01:16:06We therefore judged that the elements
01:16:08to confirm Mr. Loh's North Korean nationality
01:16:11were insufficient.
01:16:12In addition, Mr. Loh claims to have lived in the city of Yangyi
01:16:16after this escape from North Korea.
01:16:18Our investigation did not allow us to confirm this information.
01:16:23Witnesses, did he arrive?
01:16:42In Mr. Loh's biography, there was a Chinese name.
01:16:46That's why I presented him as a Chinese in the factory.
01:16:50Because I had no suspicion.
01:16:52And Mr. Loh introduced himself as a Chinese of Korean ethnicity...
01:16:57So Mr. Loh presented himself to you as a Chinese from Korea?
01:17:03Yes. Yes, he did.
01:17:07But Mr. Kim...
01:17:08Silence. Please calm down.
01:17:10Excuse me.
01:17:11Please.
01:17:12Mr. Loh.
01:17:14I am Kim Sanju.
01:17:16I am here to testify.
01:17:23You worked for Mr. Loh in this factory.
01:17:27Did you know that he asked for the North Korean refugee status?
01:17:32You worked with Mr. Loh in the same department.
01:17:36Did you know that he asked for the refugee status as a North Korean?
01:17:42Yes. Yes, I knew that.
01:17:44There are many Chinese from Korea who speak both languages,
01:17:48who apply for the refugee status to pretend to be North Korean refugees.
01:17:55So I thought that would be the case with him too.
01:17:59Do you know Mr. Loh's Chinese name?
01:18:02Then do you know Mr. Loh's real Chinese name?
01:18:09Choi Ryong Myung.
01:18:10Correctly pronounced, Cui Li Ming.
01:18:25Choi Ryong Myung.
01:18:28That's not my real name.
01:18:33Why are you doing this to me?
01:18:38Tell me, comrade.
01:18:40I want to know the reason.
01:18:43You said my way of expressing myself.
01:18:46I would have betrayed you that I am North Korean.
01:18:50So get out of here.
01:18:59Tell me.
01:19:02What are you doing?
01:19:05Comrades!
01:19:11Why did you do that?
01:19:15Why did you do that to me?
01:19:19Let go of me.
01:19:32Let go of me.
01:19:34Let go of me.
01:20:00What is it?
01:20:03Did you leave something here?
01:20:05No.
01:20:07I wanted to...
01:20:14You can't just show up here.
01:20:33The next competition is coming up.
01:20:36Gerd will decide if he invests.
01:20:41That's it. Thank you.
01:20:52My coach takes care of his athletes.
01:20:54You're copying me.
01:21:03I'm fed up. I'm done with drugs.
01:21:06We'll do it differently next time.
01:21:12Listen up.
01:21:14I don't give a shit about your little refugee.
01:21:16But you stay out of my sight.
01:21:18You stay out of my sight.
01:21:20That's clear.
01:21:22Got it?
01:21:32Let's go.
01:22:02Let's go.
01:22:32I love you.
01:23:02I love you.
01:23:21Gerd has already invested three million in you.
01:23:23If we double this amount,
01:23:25half of our debt will be paid off.
01:23:27Is everything arranged?
01:23:29You can't lose.
01:23:31Just have fun.
01:23:43This tension is unbearable.
01:23:46And now, Chloe's last shot.
01:23:48I'm sorry.
01:24:00Oh, no, Marie!
01:24:02Oh, no, Marie!
01:24:04Oh, no, Marie!
01:24:18Oh, no, Marie!
01:24:20Oh, no, Marie!
01:24:28Oh, no!
01:24:30She missed!
01:24:32She didn't even hit the puck!
01:24:34What happened?
01:24:36Chloe wins the match like we've never seen before!
01:24:40Hey, guys! Calm down!
01:24:42Calm down, please!
01:24:44Don't throw objects!
01:24:46Do you know where you're going?
01:24:48I have to go somewhere else.
01:24:52Wait a minute.
01:24:54Without me, you're nothing.
01:24:56No.
01:24:58You're wrong.
01:25:04Shit!
01:25:16Shit!
01:25:46He put pressure on me with my visa
01:25:48to confirm his statement.
01:25:50I had no choice.
01:25:52I have to work for the operation of my youngest.
01:25:54The asshole didn't keep his promise.
01:25:56What do you want to hear from me now?
01:25:58Do you expect a
01:26:00Oh, I'm sorry.
01:26:02Huh?
01:26:04No, no!
01:26:06I'm here to ask you to forgive me.
01:26:08I was caught without a visa
01:26:10and I'm being forced out.
01:26:12I'm going to my children in China now.
01:26:14I'll never be able to enter this country again.
01:26:18That's why I wanted to stop by.
01:26:22I'm sorry,
01:26:24Comrade Kivanov.
01:26:44Thank you.
01:27:02A North Korean refugee organization
01:27:04will support us.
01:27:08They also want to make a statement
01:27:10and even be part of the negotiations.
01:27:12With their help,
01:27:14they increase their credibility.
01:27:18We have to think long-term, don't we?
01:27:20Yes.
01:27:22May I offer you something?
01:27:24A coffee?
01:27:26With pleasure.
01:27:42Thank you.
01:27:56What are you doing here?
01:27:58I just found out
01:28:00what day it is today.
01:28:04I wanted to offer you my help.
01:28:12Thank you.
01:28:20My wife left us
01:28:22three years ago.
01:28:26This will probably be
01:28:28the last memorial day.
01:28:30In the future,
01:28:32memorials will only be held
01:28:34in small family circles.
01:28:36Family circle.
01:28:40Marie.
01:28:46A lot of people have come.
01:28:48Marie.
01:28:52Ah.
01:28:54You stop,
01:28:56sign in,
01:28:58and talk about the dead.
01:29:02What's all this for?
01:29:06Why are you here alone?
01:29:08Why do you need a memorial to mourn?
01:29:14Huh?
01:29:16Are you afraid that the others
01:29:18will point fingers at you
01:29:20if you don't do this?
01:29:22Stop.
01:29:24Stop?
01:29:26What do you mean, stop?

01:29:40about how I can destroy myself even more.
01:29:42Put that away right now.
01:29:44You're afraid, aren't you?
01:29:46I'm already dead.
01:29:48Do you hear me?
01:29:50Put that away.
01:29:52Damn it!
01:29:54Damn it!

01:34:51if you take drugs again,
01:34:55I'll take them away from you again and again.
01:34:58I won't stop.
01:35:01If you try to destroy yourself,
01:35:05I'll try to stop you, even if it's hell.
01:35:14Do you understand?
01:35:17Yeah.
01:35:47I love you.
01:36:17What's that?
01:36:19My mother's favorite flower.
01:36:26She's beautiful.
01:36:32What happened here?
01:36:35When we left North Korea,
01:36:38we were here for a year.
01:36:41And then,
01:36:43when we left North Korea
01:36:46and hid in Yanbian,
01:36:52we always carried a razor blade in our arms.
01:36:57Why?
01:36:59If the Chinese had caught us,
01:37:02we would have been killed
01:37:05before we were sent back.
01:37:08My mother and I carried it day and night.
01:37:13At some point,
01:37:15we had the same scar on our left wrist.
01:37:27Marie,
01:37:29you know,
01:37:34I was wanted by the police
01:37:36because I got involved in a fight
01:37:39that didn't concern me at all.
01:37:43I drowned.
01:37:44My mother took care of me.
01:37:47That's why
01:37:51my mother died one day.
01:37:57Did I deserve
01:38:02to be happy at all?
01:38:05I deserve it just as little.
01:38:12And yet,
01:38:16I'm very happy right now.
01:38:22Sometimes something flies at you,
01:38:27even if you don't see it.
01:38:34Even if you don't deserve it.
01:39:01Marie,
01:39:04don't you think it's a little too obvious?
01:39:06It's completely okay to be noticed.
01:39:08Everyone in this country.
01:39:12You look good.
01:39:15Stop it.
01:39:16Come on, please.
01:39:17Just one more kiss.
01:39:19Mr. Attorney.
01:39:22This was sent from Yanji.
01:39:24Oh, yeah?
01:39:25You should read it.
01:39:27Thank you, I will.
01:39:29Excuse me.
01:39:34Thank you.
01:39:52I looked through all the newspapers in Yanji in the last few days.
01:39:57I asked about the newspapers from last winter
01:39:59and found some.
01:40:01At home, my children and I all read through it.
01:40:03We got black fingers.
01:40:07My youngest, who has just learned to read,
01:40:09found this article and read it to me.
01:40:13I knew right away that it was your story.
01:40:23Comrade Qi Wanlu,
01:40:26this is no longer an attempt to apologize to you.
01:40:29I only wish, like your mother,
01:40:33that you will be recognized in this country and survive.
01:40:46Ah, everyone's already here.
01:40:49Mrs. Qisu.
01:40:50Mr. Attorney, how are you?
01:40:52Good, you too?
01:40:53Nice to meet you.
01:40:54Likewise.
01:40:55Thank you for coming.
01:40:56You're welcome.
01:40:57May I introduce myself? Qi Wanlu.
01:40:59Oh, my dear. My dear.
01:41:01The article you wrote about me.
01:41:04I read it carefully.
01:41:06Unfortunately, it was not very well formulated.
01:41:09I often get tears when I read.
01:41:11Oh no, I didn't want to make you cry with my text.
01:41:16I have to see you.
01:41:18I don't have time now.
01:41:20Do you know how much I lost in the competition?
01:41:21So shut up.
01:41:23Did you think you could get away with it?
01:41:26But I'll give you one last chance.
01:41:29Come to me right away.
01:41:31If you don't want to see a hole in the skull of your little refugee.
01:41:35I'm sorry.
01:41:36It's okay.
01:41:37I'm sorry.
01:41:38Thank you.
01:41:39It's okay.
01:41:41We're all very happy that you made it through despite the hardships.
01:41:45Thank you very much.
01:41:46Take care of yourself.
01:41:48Thank you for all your effort.
01:41:50Not at all.
01:41:52One moment.
01:41:53Yes, I'm sorry.
01:41:54I have to go home for a moment.
01:41:56What's going on?
01:41:58I forgot that the Klempners are coming today.
01:42:00They're waiting for me in my apartment.
01:42:06I'll be back before the negotiation is over.
01:42:09Hang in there, okay?
01:42:11Yes.
01:42:12Come back soon.
01:42:14Of course.
01:42:16We were desperate when we lost contact.
01:42:19It was terrible.
01:42:20We're going to start the second session of the trial
01:42:23opposing the Kingdom of Belgium to Mr. Lo Ki-wan.
01:42:27This article was published in the local newspaper of the city of Yeon-gil
01:42:33on December 5 last year.
01:42:36It describes the death in an accident in Boa Chu,
01:42:39June 30, North Korea.
01:42:42The accident, as it is described,
01:42:45corresponds to the description we made of Mr. Lo during his first hearing.
01:42:50The photo corresponds to the one he had provided of his mother.
01:42:55I'm calling Mr. Ki-wan to come and compare the bar.
01:43:16My name is Ki-wan Lo.
01:43:33Give me the conditions of your next match and I'll have my girl ready.
01:43:36What's going on here?
01:43:46No need.
01:43:49What do you mean?
01:43:50Your girl.
01:43:52I don't want her for just one season.
01:43:56The player for your debt.
01:44:00She aimed at zero and you are screwed.
01:44:05She shouldn't be wasted at such a small-time shop as this.
01:44:09She's out of your league.
01:44:11That will be better for her, too.
01:44:19Sucks, Mr. Lee.
01:44:42You little bastard.
01:44:43You really want to know, don't you?
01:44:47Mr. Lo applied for a refugee status in December,
01:44:52claiming to be North Korean,
01:44:54and a month later he started looking for work as a Chinese.
01:44:59You will find the evidence written on page 3 of the file.
01:45:03And allow me...
01:45:12Mr. Lee, please.
01:45:14Mr. Lo, what's the matter?
01:45:19I have to go. Now.
01:45:22I'm sorry, but you can't...
01:45:23Mr. Lee, please return to your seat.
01:45:42Get the rest of the money from the safe.
01:45:44We don't know when they'll be back.
01:45:45Okay.
01:45:49Marie, we have to go.
01:45:52We have to leave the country immediately.
01:45:54What are you talking about?
01:45:56Shit. Don't you get it?
01:45:59As my player, you are also their target.
01:46:04Would you rather be the slave of Gerd's son
01:46:06or your daughter?
01:46:08Would you rather be the slave of Gerd's son
01:46:10or your daughter?
01:46:14Cyril, why did you do that?
01:46:17Why, Cyril?
01:46:19Because I made contact with the Dutch.
01:46:22They are also after Gerd.
01:46:24They hate him and have guaranteed us refuge in Holland
01:46:27if I shoot him.
01:46:29Don't you get it?
01:46:30This is a real chance for both of us.
01:46:34You are a monster.
01:46:38I am... I am a monster?
01:46:42This fucking world made me a monster.
01:46:44Are you happy now?
01:46:46Is that what you wanted to hear?
01:46:49Marie!
01:46:52Marie!
01:46:54Marie!
01:46:56Marie!
01:46:58Bitch!
01:47:00No!
01:47:02Stop it!
01:47:03Stop it!
01:47:04Marie!
01:47:11Let him go!
01:47:13Stop it!
01:47:22Marie!
01:47:28You are hurt.
01:47:31Go.
01:48:02Fuck!
01:48:18Press again, Marie!
01:48:21You know.
01:48:23Three seconds.
01:48:32No.
01:48:49Vicky.
01:48:53Marie!
01:49:01Fuck!
01:49:32Fuck!
01:49:36Gerd is dead.
01:49:38Understood.
01:49:40I'll get the girl and bring her to Berlin.
01:49:47Where is the girl?
01:49:52Fuck you.
01:50:02Fuck.
01:50:12Marie.
01:50:16What...
01:50:17What did these guys do?
01:50:19Huh?
01:50:29Marie.
01:50:32Listen to me.
01:50:42You have to leave this country.
01:50:44Leave.
01:50:48Because you can only get out of prison this way.
01:50:54Let's call your father.
01:50:57You need a passport and money.
01:51:00And you?
01:51:02I... I want to go with you.
01:51:04Do you hear?
01:51:07At the moment, in this country...
01:51:09In this country...
01:51:13I have neither life nor the right...
01:51:18to leave it.
01:51:30I've ruined everything again.
01:51:32Everything.
01:51:38Things that were finally good.
01:51:40Things that were worth living.
01:51:48No, no.
01:51:52You can't destroy them.
01:51:55And they don't disappear either.
01:52:03I only did one thing right in my life.
01:52:10Stealing your wallet.
01:52:12That sounds stupid, doesn't it?
01:52:16I was about to give up.
01:52:21But then I knew I had to see you again.
01:52:27I had to talk to you again.
01:52:33And what did I make of it?
01:52:41When your father told me...
01:52:45that I should never see you again...
01:52:51his words hit me so hard...
01:52:55that I couldn't say anything.
01:53:03Back then, I swore to myself...
01:53:09to become a strong man...
01:53:13who could stand by you at any time.
01:53:19And I will become that man.
01:53:23And then I'll come back to you.
01:53:29Then we'll become...
01:53:32happy together.
01:53:48Come on.
01:54:02Come on.
01:54:08Get in.
01:54:32Come on.
01:54:53So...
01:54:58Call me as soon as you get there.
01:55:02Okay.
01:55:08Kee Wan Lo.
01:55:10He's...
01:55:12apparently a nice guy.
01:55:15I only realized that too late.
01:55:21I'm sorry.
01:55:29Every time Mom called...
01:55:33I acted as if I didn't want to hear it.
01:55:38I wanted her to have less pain.
01:55:42And...
01:55:46I also wanted her to be allowed to leave.
01:55:52I couldn't decide.
01:55:56Mom knew that.
01:56:00And I think...
01:56:03that's why she left me without a word.
01:56:11Why didn't you wake me up?
01:56:19God...
01:56:32Let me go.
01:56:36I'll just lie there...
01:56:41and wait for death to call me.
01:56:47I can't take it anymore.
01:56:52Cheng Ju.
01:56:53I...
01:56:56I don't want to do this to you and Marie anymore.
01:57:00I want to end this with my strength.
01:57:05Marie must never find out that...
01:57:11that her mother couldn't walk anymore.
01:57:16And your father supported her.
01:57:24Then she doesn't have to live with the feeling...
01:57:27that she's to blame for my death.
01:57:32You know she'll never find out.
01:57:44I'm sorry for what I did to you.
01:57:49I thank you.
01:57:57I love you.
01:58:06Everything okay?
01:58:09Then come.
01:58:21Don't worry about us here.
01:58:23Take good care of yourself.
01:58:28Why are you crying?
01:58:31There's no reason to cry.
01:58:35We...
01:58:38There's not a single picture of us.
01:58:42And there are so many places we haven't been to.
01:58:46And so many things we haven't done.
01:58:58Marie.
01:59:01We...
01:59:03We're going to these places.
01:59:08You should turn around.
01:59:17We'll fly to Madagascar together...
01:59:21and look at these strange trees.
01:59:24We'll travel to Greece...
01:59:28Morocco...
01:59:30Turkey.
01:59:32We'll hike...
01:59:34until our souls are completely exhausted.
01:59:38Together through the whole wide world.
01:59:45What do you say?
01:59:48Huh?
01:59:49What do you say?
01:59:52Huh?
01:59:56You mustn't cry.
02:00:09I love you.
02:00:19I love you.
02:00:25I come.
02:00:49I come.
02:01:19I come.
02:01:20I come.
02:01:49I come.
02:01:56My will...
02:01:58to survive even hell...
02:02:01here in this foreign land...
02:02:05has brought me here.
02:02:11I fought hard for the right...
02:02:14to live in this land.
02:02:17And now I have this right.
02:02:20Under oath.
02:02:36Goodbye.
02:02:37I hope so.
02:02:38Good luck.
02:02:39And now I also know...
02:02:42that everything that has to do with this right will be erased...
02:02:47as soon as I leave the Belgian soil.
02:03:12Go, my darling.
02:03:14You already look good in blue as a child.
02:03:19You look beautiful, darling.
02:03:41The American Legacy
02:03:58Whether I could use my strength again...
02:04:02to start all over again...
02:04:05I asked myself hundreds of times.
02:04:08But then I said to myself,
02:04:12what's the point?
02:04:14Who doesn't dare, doesn't win.
02:04:38Would you like a round-trip ticket?
02:04:42No.
02:04:44One way, please.
02:04:46My wish was not to have the right to live in this country,
02:04:50but to be able to leave this country.
02:04:55I realized that only today.
