00:00How does the pain and everything you go through from running a marathon compare to some of the battles and challenges you're facing at the moment as the boss of Manchester United?
00:09Well, I think there are some parallels, I have to say, but I think it just sort of requires some grit, doesn't it, you know?
00:16I mean, always in the marathon after 30k it gets quite difficult and I don't think we're quite at 30k with football yet.
00:24No, how far would you say? You're at half marathon yet?
00:27I don't know, we're not even there really, probably the first 10k. But it's a long journey really, the football, because one of the biggest problems we've got in football is you get these new guys to come into the team, really capable people, but they're all on gardening leave.
00:42And so it takes you six months or a year or 18 months before they can… it's a real issue in football, you know, to make a change you need to bring some new people in.
00:50Well, if you want to bring really good people in, you're obviously having to do deals with where they are, then they've got periods of time where they can't work and presumably that's affecting your strategy about which players you bring in.
01:02They can't work for us, the fans are impatient.
01:04You knew that though, because you're a fan.
01:06Yeah, but it's a journey, you know, people, whether they like it or not, they have to be a bit patient because it's not a light switch, you can't just turn it around like that, it takes a bit of time.
