00:00 Congratulations on Ole Red Las Vegas. We're here. It's epic. Tell us a little
00:05 bit about the week-long celebration that's happening here. Well, I mean, we did
00:11 our like soft opening in January and you know I didn't know what that was
00:16 gonna be like. You know, it was just kind of when you open something like this, you
00:21 know, you want to be sure all the kinks are worked out before you do like
00:25 your grand opening. But it's really been slammed since we opened the doors back
00:30 in January and we had already planned on having this grand opening in April. And I
00:35 came by here Super Bowl weekend. Gwen and I came in and I just was in shock, you
00:42 know, to see the place was already up and running and people were in here, you
00:48 know, having a great time. I think people understand what Ole Red is now and so
00:53 they just want to go there. They know they can come here and hear live music
00:55 and party and have fun and it's gonna be a nice place. You don't have to, it's not
00:59 like wandering into, you know, some place you don't know what it is. Is it trouble
01:05 in there? What's it gonna be like? I mean, Ole Red has kind of built up a
01:09 reputation of being a, it's the next level nice, but still a party going on
01:14 in here, you know, which is exactly what what we wanted it to be. For people at
01:20 home watching this, I just wanted to know that it's one of those places, I
01:24 don't care what time of day it is, you come wandering in here and you're
01:27 literally wandering into Nashville, Tennessee and that's super
01:32 exciting to me because Las Vegas now has a portal to Nashville when you come
01:39 through those doors and there's live music on this stage all day long and
01:45 it's just, it's perfect. It's perfect country music venue. Yeah, you're bringing
01:51 the honky-tonk to Vegas. Yeah. That's what it needed. The strip needed something
01:54 like this. It really did. You know, I know there's been a lot of
01:57 country bars, I think, or at least a few over the years in Las Vegas, but to have
02:03 this right on the strip and be, you know, toe-to-toe with everything up and down
02:09 this strip is exciting because country music does have a place at the table in
02:14 Las Vegas and always has and now it's got a permanent place on the block and
02:19 that's really cool. Yeah, for sure, and country music has been trending big time
02:24 I feel like this year and last and Beyonce actually just dropped a country
02:29 album. Have you given it a listen? I haven't. I have not heard it. I've heard
02:32 plenty about it. I haven't heard her record, but in my defense I haven't heard
02:36 90% of the records that have come out in the last couple of years. I've kind of
02:41 slipped away to my ranch in Oklahoma and off the radar for a while, but I know
02:48 it's doing great for her and I don't blame anybody for
02:53 wanting to be a part of the country music scene because country music has
02:58 always been about songs and songwriting and if that's something that
03:03 you're really focused on, then it makes sense that you would want to be, you know,
03:09 have a place in country music and gosh, you know, the world loves
03:16 Beyonce and if she loves country music and wants to make a country
03:21 album, then you know, I've been accused of making pop country music
03:27 for the last 10 years, so what can I say? Oh my god, I didn't know that. What would
03:33 you say to a Beyonce/Blake Shelton collab if she came to you with it? Well, I'd say I
03:38 need to ask my wife. Yeah, my wife gets to decide what, you know, because if it's
03:44 another genre, I kind of saved that spot for Gwen Stefani, so I would be
03:51 honored. I'd have to go ask Gwen if that would be okay. Have you guys ever met
03:56 before, you and Beyonce? I've never met Beyonce. No, I've never met her.
04:00 Aside from country music trending, cowboy fashion, where they're calling it
04:05 cowboy core fashion, just so you know. Cowboy core fashion. It's a thing. It's trending right now,
04:10 and I'd say you're the king of it. I'd say you're the expert at cowboy core fashion.
04:15 So what's your key tip for nailing the cowboy core look? I don't know what the
04:22 hell you're talking about, and I know what you're saying, but when it
04:27 comes to fashion, I don't know. If you're saying that I'm the king of it,
04:31 somebody has set you up with a huge lie, because I don't even know,
04:38 you know, anything about it. I've been wearing the same clothes since 1994,
04:44 pretty much, and the only thing that's different is, you know, I get new ones
04:48 made, but they still look the same. You know, Adam Levine used to make fun of me
04:52 on The Voice and say, "I don't have a wardrobe, I have a uniform," and he's
04:58 right. He's right. So what's the uniform? You hop out of bed? Yep. I put on
05:03 my jeans and my boots. I think jeans and boots are the key to the cowboy core
05:09 look you're talking about. If you've got the jeans and boots on, the rest
05:13 of it doesn't matter. You know, I'll wear like a dress shirt and a sports jacket
05:18 or whatever, and a tie, but as long as I got the jeans and boots on, that's
05:22 country. That's cowboy. You heard it here, people. Stagecoach is in a few weeks.
05:27 Jeans and boots, jeans and boots, that's what you gotta wear. So in addition to
05:31 the bar and restaurant here at Old Red, you have two stages. Is it true that you have
05:36 former Team Blake contestants performing this week? That is true. There was one last
05:40 night. Ryan Maloney was here performing. I don't remember what season he was on
05:45 because they all kind of become a blur to me, but he was on one of my teams
05:50 years ago, and it's cool to run into those artists again. Every
05:56 Old Red that I go in, every time there's a contestant from The Voice in there
06:01 performing, which is really cool because for a lot of years that was one of my
06:06 sales pitches to get people to be on my team was, "Hey, I can put you in Old Red
06:11 and you know no matter what happens, you can come here and play." You know, and to
06:16 see it happening is like, "I told you, you know, I told you that you could sing
06:21 at my Old Red." So speaking of The Voice, what do you miss most about being a
06:25 coach? I miss the blind auditions were fun, you know. I gotta say, but to be very
06:33 specific about it, I miss the blind auditions when Adam was still on the
06:38 show back then because, I mean, you talk about sharpening your skills as
06:45 an insult artist. I mean, and he was too. I mean, he was, it was some of the
06:51 most fun, and you couldn't have, you weren't allowed to have hurt feelings,
06:54 you know. Any of that, get the hell off the show if you have that, you know. We are
06:58 here to rip each other to shreds with absolutely no pride or, and with no
07:05 boundaries, you know. A lot of the stuff that was said during those blind
07:09 auditions was edited out because it was inappropriate and it was terrible
07:14 language and, you know, it got a little personal at times, but I loved it and he
07:18 loved it. And then when, you know, it kind of got cleaned up whenever he was gone.
07:24 So I guess if I was specific, it would be blind auditions, head-to-head with
07:29 Adam Levine. Have you been watching this season at all? If so, are you pulling for
07:34 any team or coach? I gotta pull for Reba. I mean, my gosh, I mean, she's Reba.
07:40 So, but I think John, I get them so confused. I think John Legend is on this
07:46 season, is that right? I'm a big John Legend fan too. I'm not rooting for Dan
07:51 and Shay. I'm purposely not pulling for Dan and Shay. Just because, you know, I've
08:01 known those guys for a long time and, and they haven't earned it yet. They, they
08:06 haven't earned it yet, you know. And I want them to be on the show for a couple
08:09 of years before they, before they even get in the finals, you know. I think they
08:13 need to be humbled, brought back down to earth a little bit, you know. They've had
08:16 way too much success lately, too early on in their, in their young careers and
08:21 they need to suffer a little bit, you know. I get that. Do you agree too? I agree.
08:27 So you're saying, you're saying they can kiss your ass. I'm agreeing with what you said. Oh, okay.
08:34 So I know you get this all the time. Is there a world we could ever see you back
08:38 as a coach? Probably not. I mean, I kind of, the second I walked out of there, it
08:48 was like I really meant, you know, goodbye. And, and not in a bad, bitter way. It was
08:53 just, it was time. I mean, I'd been there for 23 seasons back-to-back at that
08:58 point and, and I just, I love having my, my life back and not have to build my
09:06 life and schedule around a TV show schedule. And, and it was the best thing I
09:10 ever did. And, and I'll always be grateful to NBC and the voice producers and that
09:17 opportunity. But also know it's best for them and me that they move on and find
09:23 the next me for their show that's going to be their anchor for the next 20
09:28 seasons again. And, and it's better for me to move on to just being, you know, a
09:34 country singer again for a while. Yeah. Farming on your farm in Oklahoma looks
09:40 pretty fun to me. Yeah. So I hear you. You're not gonna go back. But if there
09:44 was one person that could convince you to go back, Adam, Kelly, or Gwen, who would
09:50 it be? Well, I would say if there was anybody that could, that could do it, it
09:57 would be Gwen, you know, to, to get me to come back. But, you know, I said for years
10:01 that I, the only thing that I would be interested in, it would be is if we ever
10:07 got the original four coaches back to do a season. Now that would be fun to me
10:12 just for, you know, old times sake. That would probably be the only thing I would
10:16 entertain as far as going back. But I also know that that's probably not in
10:20 the cards either, you know. Yeah. We want to do a little bit of anatomy of a song.
10:25 So anatomy of a song at AXS is where we break down a song. You and Gwen just came
10:30 out with "Purple Irises" a few months ago. So catchy. I love the song. What do you
10:34 remember about recording with Gwen and how much fun did the two of you have?
10:39 Well, I remember everything about recording with Gwen because the first
10:45 time we recorded it together, you know, she had written the song originally as
10:51 just a solo song, you know, just for her album. And then at some point we had
10:57 talked, I told her how much I loved that song and, and, and at some point she'd
11:02 mentioned, "Would you do a duet with me on my album?" And of course, obviously I
11:06 will. And, and somehow it became about that song. Like, let's figure out how to
11:10 make that particular song a duet, you know. She wrote it about us anyway. And,
11:15 and so I went to the studio with her one day. You can't even call it a studio. It was
11:20 just a room that they were writing in. They set up a microphone and, and I put
11:24 my vocal on the demo and it was like, "Whoa, this does work. This really did work."
11:28 You know, we knew then that moment that it needed to be a duet. And, and so it was
11:35 just, it just felt right. It just had that thing about it. And it's, it's such a
11:40 fun song to perform.
11:42 Yeah, for sure. You can really see that you guys have fun
11:44 together performing on stage. We love you and Gwen at AXS. What is the secret to
11:50 your strong relationship? How do you keep it strong and better than ever?
11:54 Well, the fun thing about that, we don't really have to work on, on that, you know.
11:59 And I don't know why. We just have a, we're, she's my best friend. That's the
12:06 best way I know to say it. And it's just, it's not something that we have to really
12:12 think about. It's just there, you know. And, and, and we have fun with it. Maybe
12:18 that's the key is just, you know, we have so much fun together. Whether we're, you
12:24 know, having a cup of coffee in the morning or watching a movie or, or
12:28 performing on, in an arena somewhere, you know. We just, we literally just have so
12:34 much fun together. And the only regret that we have is that it, you know, we
12:38 didn't find each other till late in life, you know. But also know that, you know, we
12:44 had to go through everything we went through to get us to there, you know. But
12:50 we're just grateful and we have fun.
12:53 Yeah, for sure. I gotta say, I didn't buy a ticket to Coachella this year and I was
12:58 okay with it until I saw Gwen on the stage performing with No Doubt. Yeah. And
13:02 then I was really mad at myself. You missed it. You missed it. I was really pissed. Yeah. So, were
13:06 you there? Were you watching at home? How were you watching? Well, I wasn't, I
13:10 didn't get to go to the first show because I was in Nashville officiating a
13:15 wedding. It's one thing to like not show up at someone's wedding, but it's another
13:20 thing if you've been asked to officiate it and you don't show up. So, I was really
13:24 screwed on her first performance. But I am going to be at the second one
13:30 and I'm really excited about it. I did watch the show on YouTube. I watched every
13:34 second of it. It is the best concert I've ever seen. Like, I can't even believe
13:39 how it felt just watching it on YouTube. I can't imagine what it was like in
13:43 person. Her doing the "I'm just a girl back to the crowd." I was just like, I'm so
13:49 mad I'm not there. You screwed the pooch. I really did. I'm gonna leave you with
13:52 this. The Paris Olympics are coming up very soon. Oh, I'm so excited. I'm very
13:57 excited too. If you could win a gold medal in anything, doesn't have to be a
14:01 sport, anything you're good at, what would it be? Guessing the the retail price of
14:07 something on the price is right. I think I'm pretty good at that and I really
14:12 pissed off when someone bids $1 more than the person before them. That's,
14:16 that's, don't do that. Come on. Don't do that. Yeah, don't do that.
14:22 Gold medal worthy.
