Former SNP chief executive Peter Murrell has been charged by police as part of a probe into the party's finances. The husband of Scotland’s former first minister Nicola Sturgeon was charged on Thursday in connection with the alleged embezzlement of funds. First Minister Humza Yousaf says the development is “a really serious matter indeed.” It comes more than a year after 59-year-old Murrell was originally arrested as part of the investigation known as Operation Branchform. 00:22 Look, this is a difficult time. I don't think I'm revealing any secrets in saying that,
00:27 but there's absolutely nothing I can say given the circumstances.
00:30 So I'm now going to go out for a walk, if that's alright with you.
00:34 I know you've got jobs to do, but I'd also ask you maybe to give my neighbours some peace.
00:39 There's nothing going to be happening here.
00:42 How difficult is this for you personally?
00:44 It's incredibly difficult, but that's not the main issue here.

01:07 These are serious, serious developments.
01:11 And as per the police statement, we now know that an individual has been charged,
01:19 Peter has been charged, with the allegation of embezzlement from party funds.
01:25 And that's a really serious matter indeed.
01:28 Many people in the SNP, right across Scottish politics, will be shocked by the news.
01:36 This is an ongoing investigation. Police, the Crown, have a job to do,
01:43 just as I have a job to do as First Minister.
01:46 And that job, of course, is ensuring that I support business,
01:50 that I help households at the cost of a living crisis,
01:53 that I help to cut waiting times in the NHS, that I advance the cause of independence.
01:57 So that's the job that you can imagine I'm focused on.
