00:00 The sacrifice of serving the people is not a joke.
00:05 That's what the family remembers when his brother became a fire volunteer.
00:11 After the tragedy that happened when the San Juan was burned.
00:16 That's what Mark Salazar is talking about.
00:18 The fire under control was declared quickly in Barangay Isla Bati, San Juan City on Tuesday.
00:28 But it put the life of 25-year-old fire volunteer CK Oliver at risk.
00:35 According to his friend, CK returned to the burned house when he found out that there was a fire inside.
00:44 About 20 minutes ago, the person from Barangay San Perfecto came to me and said that CK was the one who burned the house.
00:54 Before the tragedy happened, CK sent this short video clip to his family, where his face is sad.
01:04 But the images of CK in the hospital, where no one is alive, are the ones that strike them.
01:10 It hurts when you see your son's skin is all bruised and there's a bullet in his head.
01:18 You can't talk to him, you can't touch him. It hurts.
01:24 CK's torn hard hat and his messy fire suit are the testimony of his small life, but full of sacrifice and service to his fellow man.
01:34 It hurts because he's more than a friend, more than a brother, more than a son.
01:42 He's like that to me. What a waste. What a waste. He's still a child.
01:49 CK was able to get his attention from the example of his parents, who were former volunteers of the Philippine Red Cross.
01:56 His father was also an urban search and rescue volunteer.
01:59 He's only 15 years old. He's already joining me in those trainings.
02:02 USAR, WASAR, and HIGHANGEL, search and rescue.
02:09 That's probably where his passion is, to really respond. That's what he really wants.
02:18 CK, wherever you are, mama is super proud of you. I love mama.
02:24 For GMA Integrated News, Mark Salazar.
