00:00Hello and welcome to day two of attempting to travel the Maldives on a budget.
00:04So I'm currently staying on one of the local islands in the Maldives called Tlutu, which
00:07is absolute paradise for a fraction of the price.
00:10Morning from the Maldives!
00:13And I was so excited to be here that I woke up at 6am to go on a sunrise beach run and
00:18I could literally lap around the island in about five minutes.
00:20So we are currently staying in a beachfront hotel, like this is our view and this is just
00:25costing us less than £30 each per night and that includes a breakfast which is also right
00:29on the beach.
00:30But we found this super cute lunch spot, it is a little bit more expensive than the local
00:34islands but I would definitely recommend.
00:36We had a wander around the island which is super cute, there's so many pretty flowers
00:40and street art.
00:41This island is actually also really popular for surfing, I didn't even know you could
00:44surf in the Maldives.
00:45There is actually one ATM on this island.
00:47And then how weird, we stumbled across Coca-Cola factory.
00:50Like how random, this island is tiny, they can literally walk from one end to the other.
00:54A few shops, a few hotels, a few restaurants.
00:56A huge industrial Coca-Cola factory.
00:59Maybe that makes sense.
01:00Now one of the main restrictions about being on the local islands is that alcohol is completely
01:04banned.
01:05You cannot get alcohol anywhere.
01:06No shops, no hotels, restaurants or bars will sell alcohol.
01:09So the only way to get an alcoholic drink is to visit a floating bar in the middle of
01:13the ocean which is exactly what we did.
01:14We paid $10 for a return boat and a beer was $5 which we enjoyed whilst watching a beautiful
01:19sunset.
01:20So the alcohol ban is something to definitely consider if you are planning a trip here but
01:23you won't find this problem on any of the resort islands.
01:26We're only here for 5 nights so it didn't really bother us and the islands are so gorgeous
01:30that it is definitely worth it.
01:31So make sure you're following along to see what we got up to on day 3.
01:34Whoever told you that the Maldives is expensive is lying to you because I'm currently in the
01:39Maldives and I'm paying less than £30 a night and this is the view from my hotel.
01:45Like that is my room and this is the view.
01:48And that price also includes breakfast.
01:51So to visit the Maldives you don't need to stay in one of these expensive 5 star resorts.
01:55There are so many different local islands you can come to visit for a fraction of the
01:59price.
