DOH says pertussis cases still going up, measles transmission slowing down

00:00 The Department of Health or DOH has reported an increase in pertussis while a slowing down of measles rubella transmission is seen.
00:08 Starting January to April 6, there have been nearly 1,500 pertussis cases with 63 deaths, which is 41 times higher than the same period in 2023.
00:19 Most of the cases are in children under 5 years old.
00:22 The regions with the highest number of cases are Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, and Bicol Region.
00:31 Over 1,600 cases of measles rubella have been recorded with four deaths.
00:37 Children under 10 years old account for 82% of the cases, with most being under 5 years old.
00:43 The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao or BARMM has the highest number of cases, and a vaccination campaign is underway in the region.
00:52 The Health Department is advocating for the use of framework agreements for the procurement of vaccines to improve efficiency and delivery.
