00:00Let's get to the latest in California sports betting, man, like these people are getting
00:07heckled about how poorly this is going in California.
00:10Maybe in the end, this will open up some eyes to some people to step in and get some legislation
00:14done.
00:15But for the time being, a pretty embarrassing situation.
00:17Yeah.
00:18You know what, California, it's funny to have it in the spotlight with such a big story,
00:24like the Shohei issue, because California sports betting in general is just such a cluster
00:30of a situation that it doesn't really need any more negative light to come down on it.
00:37But look, we have the Indian Gaming Association trade show going on this week.
00:42And the two sides, the commercial side and the tribal side, they're finally playing nicely,
00:48Craig.
00:49And that's really what you want to see for online sports betting in California.
00:53If you're a California resident, you want to bet on sports in California and you want
00:57to do it with the best possible products, then this is what you want to see.
01:02You want to see everybody playing nice.
01:04People were lighthearted about it, about the fact that the commercial side went so hard
01:12against the tribal side.
01:14And in the end, we're destroyed by the tribal efforts.
01:18And the commercial side had to kind of learn the hard way that gaming in California is
01:23going to go the way that the tribes want.
01:26And that is being made clear this week as well.
01:29You know, Amy Howe of FanDuel is there.
01:32FanDuel and DraftKings co-sponsored the trade show, which is not something that would have
01:37happened in past years.
01:40And but tribal leaders are still being very clear, saying, look, you are going to come
01:48in and you are going to be a partner.
01:53This is a product that you are going to offer and we are going to put out.
02:01You can run the sports betting, you can do whatever you want, but you are not going to
02:07be the company that is in charge.
02:10And so there's still a lot to figure out when you think, you know, well, how exactly is
02:14that going to work?
02:16The biggest casino in California partners with, you know, one of the biggest operators
02:21that clearly wants their name on the app.
02:25Are the tribes going to go for that or are they going to say, no, you know, we want this
02:29to be X and Y casino and sponsored by DraftKings, real small on the bottom or, you know, however
02:35it may go.
02:36So there is a lot of stuff to still iron out for the way that this looks.
02:42And remember, the tribes don't want to open mobile betting immediately.
02:47Their perfect situation would be in 2026, voting on something that allows for retail
02:53betting and then in 2028, opening up to mobile betting.
02:59And clearly that isn't what the industry is going to want.
03:02We have enough data now from enough jurisdictions that say you need mobile betting and you need
03:08remote registration to get the most out of your market.
03:12So there's going to be a lot of back and forth, still a lot to talk about, a lot to
03:15be discussed, a lot to figure out, but commercial and tribal are on the same side finally.
03:24And that is a good thing for California and those that want to bet legally on sports there.
