Mattel Masters Of The Universe Masterverse New Eternia Man-At-Arms Figure
Transcript
00:00 It's the changing of the old guard and changing to a new location.
00:03 Here's a look at the brand new Mattel Mass Universe Masterverse, Mass Universe New Eternia, Man at Arms.
00:08 The last thing Duncan remembered was He-Man shouting by the power of Greyskull.
00:29 Reality cracked and all went dark.
00:32 Suddenly, Man at Arms found himself in New Eternia, one broken and in need of repair.
00:37 Duncan's been propelled to a brand new planet and he's already putting himself to work.
00:41 Just before, of course, we get a closer look at the New Eternia Man at Arms,
00:44 I'm going to put myself to work and grab the tape measure to tell you that the figure stands exactly 7 inches in height.
00:50 Or Man at Arms is about 18 centimeters tall.
00:52 As for other figures we can compare him with, let's bring in mostly New Eternia figures.
00:56 I'm going to say mostly because there's going to be one exception to that.
00:59 Here's first what he looks like with the most powerful man and might I also say one of the worst He-Man figures in the universe.
01:04 The head sculpts on both Barbarian He-Man aren't very good at all.
01:07 I did at the time actually shooting this review also ordered myself the Battle Armor He-Man from Revolution,
01:12 which may be my 7 inch stand-in He-Man until we get something better.
01:15 Yeah, yeah, I know, I know. We did get ourselves also a Battle Armor New Eternia He-Man.
01:19 I didn't like to look at that figure either.
01:21 Let's bring in the one exception who isn't actually part of New Eternia,
01:24 but we don't have a 7 inch scale Fisto, so he's going to stand in for right now.
01:28 Here's also what he looks like with the New Eternia Ram Man.
01:31 Many faces off to the side here as well.
01:33 We could also bring in Buzz off and also here's what he looks like with Stratos.
01:37 And of course if you are going to be comparing Man-at-Arms,
01:39 it probably be also a good idea as well to bring in the original Origins figure so you can see the differences there.
01:44 I'm sure at the beginning of this video you did see as I was unpacking Man-at-Arms
01:48 that off to the side a little compartment had stored inside a little white bag.
01:51 The white bag is a little bit more interesting than just the hand that came in with Skeletor.
01:55 Why would Skeletor just come in clear with that one hand?
01:58 But Man-at-Arms at least gets five extra things.
02:00 That is a surprise at least that when you open up the bag there's something in there other than just a hand.
02:05 Still looking at you Skeletor.
02:07 Before we actually look at those five other things, let's look at this one thing off to the side, his trusty mace.
02:12 The mace other than the orb on the end being a different color of orange plastic,
02:16 I'm not really sure why they chose to have a different orange than everything else that's underneath it.
02:20 The Werther's original color of caramel that they used here does have quite a lot of marbling.
02:25 Normally marbling would be jarring but because it's also an on an accessory it doesn't bother me as much.
02:30 On the back of the packaging by the way, the orb can be shown detached with having a chain connecting the two pieces together.
02:36 This can't be done with just the defaulted mace.
02:39 So if you're trying to pry this off you're going to be going, you're just going to continue to damage your nails
02:43 and you're probably going to damage the plastic in the process.
02:44 Stop what you're doing. Stop what you're doing.
02:46 And if you thought, "Hey, wait, I didn't even know there was a bag."
02:48 Look in the packaging before you throw it away because there is actually an actual mace extra piece
02:53 that's going to swap it with this whole entire part on the end.
02:55 Before doing that though, I did want to show you that the mace does fit into either one of his hands.
02:59 Even though he does have close fists with him,
03:02 generally I like to default my figures on the shelf with two gripping hands
03:05 because if I ever decide down the road I want to change the figures configuration
03:09 and maybe have like the mace on this side,
03:10 I don't have to then start looking around for where did I put the bag containing Man-at-Arms' extra hands.
03:15 Don't have to do that.
03:16 So I'm just going to take the guy off the shelf.
03:17 So he holds the mace generally quite well.
03:20 There is also a secondary storage place if you are familiar like with the Origins,
03:24 not the Classics, the Classics Man-at-Arms that we also got from Maddie Collector.
03:28 There's a storage space on the back of the figure's body.
03:31 You can take the mace, you can clip it in place here.
03:33 Just before I do that though, I did want to show you guys that this is actually a separate piece from the rest of his armor.
03:37 Initially thinking by the way it was loose that it was glued in place,
03:40 but actually you can slide this entire piece off.
03:44 Now reasons for why they made this as a removable piece may have also something to do with that
03:48 even if you want to display this Man-at-Arms without the extra clip piece on the back
03:52 and give them kind of more of again a just more consistent looking armor.
03:55 But it could also be too that they maybe may be using this armor for future 7-inch Man-at-Arms
04:00 or maybe a new Eternian Guard down the road.
04:02 Either way though this does fit on just on the back of the figure's body.
04:05 I mean if you take these little T-clips on the back, they just slide into the provided grooves.
04:09 The only thing is though every time you remove the mace off of this,
04:12 you always find yourself kind of moving this a little bit and then it gets a little loose and a little wonky.
04:17 So you can always have to slide it back in place.
04:18 Anyways though you do take the mace, just remove it from his hand.
04:21 Now you can either have it obviously a little higher up on the handle.
04:25 You can flip this around in this way as well or you can also have it just dead set in the middle.
04:28 Either way though you do have to put a lot of pressure.
04:30 And when you put the pressure in there, I've done this enough times it doesn't have the snap,
04:35 but you feel there's a clip like a little snap piece sound when you are fitting this in place.
04:39 My only concern with the amount of pressure that's really required to get that in place,
04:43 not that it's happened yet, but I would worry that down the road this may start to develop fracture marks.
04:48 Like I said, it hasn't happened yet on the plastic.
04:50 Like I said, you can also really take the handle if you want to have a little bit higher up.
04:53 You can also do that as well.
04:54 It looks a little strange that way or you can also just detach this.
04:58 And again, this always is going to be moving around on you.
05:00 This can also fit a little bit lower down as well.
05:02 I just kind of prefer to have the mace, if I am going to be displaying it, not in Duncan's hands,
05:06 just to kind of have it clipped more in the middle.
05:08 And it works fine.
05:09 It doesn't have any other blasters.
05:11 I kind of wish the figure could have come with a laser pistol or something along those lines.
05:14 But I'm kind of comparing it also to the original classics Mander Arms that had also these additional accessories.
05:20 Okay, so we'll put the figure down here for a second.
05:22 Yes, you probably already noticed he's got a little bit of looseness there on the tops of his thighs.
05:26 And like I said, he does come also with this additional piece as well.
05:29 So basically what it is, it's removing this whole top section up.
05:33 You're not going to have to remove the orb.
05:35 You're just going to detach the end of it.
05:37 It just comes off like that.
05:39 And you can see within this clip, it just fits back into that provided hole.
05:43 I will say though, like between the two, this fits a lot easier onto the peg.
05:48 This one I noticed, even though I...
05:49 Ah, there we go.
05:50 Finally gets it on there.
05:51 This one you have to put a lot more pressure to kind of get that on place.
05:54 Now it does have the ball and the chain on the end.
05:56 This is basically just done by using softer plastic.
05:59 I think what I might just end up doing is heating this a little bit in hot water and just bending it a little bit.
06:03 Let it cool.
06:04 So that usually is what the case is like.
06:05 If you ever have anything that's warped on a figure, submerge it either in hot water.
06:08 You can also take a few pounds with a hair dryer.
06:10 Just enough to soften up the plastic.
06:12 Get it into the configuration that you want.
06:13 So I might just have it like something like that.
06:16 And then just let it cool.
06:17 Am I going to be ruining it?
06:18 I mean, some people may prefer to have the longer reach chain like this.
06:21 I kind of prefer it a little bit more curved.
06:23 The chain is nicely painted.
06:24 You can see in like a gunmetal gray.
06:26 And the orb on the end is still a different color than the rest of the mace.
06:29 There's the inside of the mace.
06:30 You guys can see what that looks like.
06:32 And again, you can also again fit this in his hand.
06:34 I haven't done anything different with the end of the handle.
06:35 So putting in his hands would just be as easy as I did the first time.
06:38 Though it might be a little harder to do it when you start changing out his hands.
06:42 The figure also comes included with closed fists.
06:44 These would be the things I would just end up putting back into an extra accessory bag.
06:49 Just to get, again, like all the things mentioned already.
06:51 I'd like to always have the figure with gripping hands as a stock default.
06:54 So if I ever want to, you know, again, move the weapons around at any point.
06:58 I don't have to start looking around.
06:59 Where did I put those extra hands?
07:00 Where did I put those extra hands?
07:02 The things that might end up having to go back in that bag though,
07:04 is an additional swappable head sculpt.
07:06 The thing I really like about Mattel, first of all,
07:09 and let me just, I'm just going to slide the figure over here for a second.
07:12 Not that I normally bring in the packaging,
07:14 but I want to draw your attention also to the packaging.
07:17 That the artwork on the front and more specifically here on the side,
07:20 doesn't it kind of look like Bill the Butcher from Gangs of New York?
07:23 Did they take some inspirational cues maybe from that?
07:26 But if you also look at the back of the packaging,
07:28 if you weren't in the wise and you hadn't already watched the review of it,
07:31 you probably would just assume that the alternate head sculpt
07:34 would have the helmet already attached onto it.
07:37 And that was the thing I thought of too.
07:39 I thought, "Oh no, I like the head sculpt with the mustache myself,
07:43 but I don't really like the helmet that they chose for it."
07:45 Let me show you guys what I'm talking about here.
07:47 We'll just put the extra head down there.
07:49 We'll put the helmet over here as well.
07:51 The defaulted head that they gave us here, of course, does sport the mustache,
07:54 but it does give us a little bit more of a modern head sculpt,
07:57 with the helmet now a little bit more streamlined.
07:59 Instead of being wider on the sides, it's a little bit more conformed to his head.
08:02 It has very similar sort of color notations here,
08:05 with some greens and some reds added in there,
08:07 and the coloring of the blue plastic appears to be the exact same.
08:10 While I like the modern approach, and they've done this a lot with New Eternia figures,
08:14 that they usually throw in things that are a nod to the original toy,
08:16 and then they also throw things kind of like their own spin
08:19 on what the character could look like a little bit more modernized,
08:21 I don't really like the helmet, honestly.
08:24 And if given really the choice,
08:26 I would really go back to using the more origins, more classic-looking head sculpt helmet instead.
08:31 So I thought, "Okay, the problem with this is going to be
08:34 that this head is going to come with this already attached.
08:36 That's going to suck, because I don't really want to have the figure displayed
08:40 with the non-mustached face. It's my personal preference."
08:43 But Mattel thought of that, and they actually made the helmets as two separate pieces.
08:46 So the helmet and the head are detached altogether.
08:49 So even if you wanted to have the figure displayed really without the helmet,
08:52 you could just leave it off if you want to.
08:54 The head sculpts, by the way, seem to be exactly the same,
08:57 in the sense that if I take the helmet off of this one...
09:00 There we go. You can see the top of the helmets,
09:03 or the top of the head guards would be underneath, look to be identical.
09:07 It's just the difference of really having one with a mustache,
09:10 if I get my thumb out of the way. One is with a mustache, really one is without a mustache.
09:15 Really good, too, if you also buy more than one of these.
09:17 You guys can have these displayed really as an attorney and guard, and then one as man-at-arms.
09:21 So you remove the helmet, and then you can easily just swap it out with this head sculpt instead,
09:25 or this helmet instead.
09:27 Even though it's not the softest of plastics,
09:29 so I probably would recommend, first of all, heating this in hot water.
09:32 I've done that. Unfortunately, with the old time of me talking away here on camera,
09:36 the plastic has cooled.
09:38 So the problem is going to still be the case.
09:40 I have removed this a couple of times. I don't know if you guys can see it or not.
09:44 Some of the paint, or something has flaked off on the top of the head.
09:47 You can see there's a little bit of a yellow underneath it.
09:49 I don't know how many times I would suggest really changing out the helmets,
09:53 just because it's so close.
09:55 I mean, even when you're putting this head sculpt on, or the helmet in place,
09:58 everything is so close to the head that every time you remove it,
10:02 there you go, every time you remove it,
10:04 yeah, so you can see I've flaked off a little bit of paint there.
10:08 Changing out the heads, by the way, or changing the helmets,
10:10 just again, you fit it over top of the ears,
10:12 and really of the two helmets.
10:15 I mean, again, there's this one here, which again, a little bit more streamlined,
10:18 or have the one that has the wider sides.
10:20 I prefer this head sculpt, or this helmet sculpt, with this helmet,
10:24 just because it looks more like a classic looking Duncan.
10:27 I know what you can also do, of course, is if you're not going to be using this helmet,
10:31 just attach it onto the non-mustached face,
10:34 and yeah, if you had a second one of these,
10:36 you could just have the figure displayed as a new Eternian Guard.
10:39 Just move that off to the side.
10:41 So I do like the idea that Mattel actually gave us two different helmets to work with,
10:44 and that they weren't committed completely to having those with the faces,
10:48 so he didn't have to remove.
10:49 Not liking the non-mustached face, but liking the helmet,
10:52 boy, that would be a sucky decision to choose,
10:55 but I do like the idea again.
10:56 Yeah, you can swap out the helmets.
10:58 For the rest of the figure's body, very much more a classic looking man-at-arms.
11:01 Of course, you've got the green undersuit.
11:03 This seems to be the same body as what they've used already with He-Man,
11:06 so again, bringing back in He-Man.
11:08 You can see the arms, the torso, yeah, the torso is exactly the same.
11:11 So is also the case, it seems to be, the legs.
11:13 Obviously, they would have just given him different armor.
11:15 The armor, of course, he has the front mouthplates,
11:18 and on the back we've already looked at the fact that this, yeah,
11:20 with already the times I've moved the figure around,
11:23 you can already see how easy this thing comes off.
11:25 Still, I'm glad it's removable and not glue,
11:27 because if it was glue and it was kind of like this,
11:29 I mean, you'd have to kind of pry this off,
11:31 put the glue back underneath, and just glue it back in place.
11:34 It is strapped, though, so you can see,
11:36 like, the front half of the torso straps across and just attaches in place.
11:40 If you were to remove this, basically it's just a He-Man body underneath.
11:43 We're going to plug that back in place.
11:45 One thing I really think that's clever is the way they handled the other arm.
11:48 Man-at-Arms has always played with the problem of having, like,
11:51 his arm guard sliding off all the time.
11:53 I don't know how many times I have to keep going back to the origins,
11:56 Man-at-Arms, and sliding that back in place.
11:58 What they've done, instead of actually strapping this,
12:00 it's a loop, so they've slid, essentially, the whole thing over top of his arm.
12:04 But they very cleverly had made this as a separate piece.
12:07 I don't know if you can see it or not, if I get my hand out of the way.
12:09 There's a peg right here, so, like, this part of his forearm guard
12:12 is actually attached to the rest of his shoulder.
12:14 So you can see it's attached right there.
12:15 So they've done it in such a way that it gives you some, a little bit of posability.
12:19 This actually has a hinge, and I think that's really smart, the way they did that.
12:23 You got some nice detailing there, of course,
12:25 with the two sword-crossing paths there on the top.
12:27 That's nicely done in gold.
12:28 But mostly, again, it's very classic-looking Man-at-Arms.
12:30 The only thing that really wasn't classic about it was the thing I already fixed,
12:34 was the helmet.
12:35 Again, the helmet's nicely sculpted here as well.
12:37 Down below, he's got a slightly different loincloth than that of He-Man.
12:40 It's kind of more like...
12:41 kind of more like a, like, almost like Wonder Woman's skirting,
12:44 kind of the way they've done that.
12:46 It's a softer plastic, of course, underneath.
12:47 That would just be a regular loincloth.
12:49 Nicely painted there in blue.
12:50 You've got the orb there in the middle of the red.
12:52 And, of course, you've got your leg guard down below.
12:54 All classic-looking Man-at-Arms.
12:56 Just, again, on a larger scale, and it's slightly modernized.
12:59 And, again, giving you the option of having two different head sculpts,
13:02 two different helmets to work with.
13:03 For the figure's posability, the head is going to rotate on a ball joint.
13:06 It rotates all the way around.
13:08 Looks up, looks down, and you can also move it back and forth.
13:11 I thought with how close everything was in quarters
13:13 that I wouldn't be able to rotate the head all the way around,
13:15 but you can see they've allotted just enough space.
13:18 As for the arms, speaking of just enough space,
13:20 where they've attached the arm here,
13:22 actually, the shoulder pad is further down,
13:24 so there's nothing really limiting Man-at-Arms
13:26 from being able to move his arms at 90 degrees.
13:28 You can take those arms and rotate them all the way around.
13:30 The only thing I would say is a little bit more restricted
13:32 is not the swivel here in the bicep,
13:34 but the double hinge on the elbow.
13:35 Just really tight, and when you're bending everything,
13:37 you kind of feel everything sort of folding in on themselves.
13:40 So, like, you will be able to still bend the elbow,
13:43 but I just noticed, like, this part of his arm guard
13:45 kind of just feels like it's crumpling up as I'm doing it.
13:48 Hands rotate also all the way around.
13:50 The figure's upper torso is on a ball joint, yes.
13:53 The figure does have a swivel down below here.
13:55 Not to look at Duncan's groin,
13:57 but just to show you guys, there's the ball joints inside there.
13:59 And three-quarters of the way up the thigh, there's also a swivel cut.
14:02 So, yes, once again, the figure's legs do swivel all the way around.
14:04 The figure does have a double hinge on the knee,
14:06 although I have a real hard time to budge this one.
14:08 It's really super tight.
14:09 So I'll show you guys on this side.
14:11 Double hinge on the knee.
14:12 He's got the swivel here in the top,
14:14 where his boot attaches to the rest of the calf.
14:16 And then he has the ankle pivot back and forth
14:18 and an ankle rocker as well.
14:20 It's a good-looking figure, and, you know, again,
14:22 my one biggest concern with getting this guy
14:24 when I saw images of him first online,
14:26 I'm not one that tends to check out a lot of other reviews.
14:29 So, for me, I like to really go into these figure reviews
14:32 when I'm really doing them myself
14:34 to kind of look at them with my own unbiased opinion,
14:37 not being kind of swayed by anybody else.
14:39 So, based on that and looking online,
14:41 I thought only, really, that the alternate head sculpts
14:43 were going to have the helmets as part of them.
14:45 So I thought, "Oh, that's going to really suck,"
14:47 because I really like the more classic-looking helmet.
14:50 I wish I could have displayed it with a mustache face.
14:52 And you can.
14:53 And, again, we're just only now going to have an extra piece.
14:56 So, again, like, I probably could just put this in a bag.
14:58 If I do decide down the road I want to give myself
15:00 a second Eternia Man-at-Arms,
15:02 I might then just have the other one displayed,
15:04 maybe using this head sculpt.
15:05 Like, this helmet isn't bad.
15:06 It's just, for me, doesn't...
15:08 It's not as much Man-at-Arms for me
15:10 like the classic helmet instead.
15:12 And I might just display the figure that way.
15:14 And, again, just bringing back in Origins Man-at-Arms,
15:16 you can see, like, there's a lot of inspirational cues.
15:18 They've darkened, of course, a lot of the colors.
15:20 I don't have the Revelation Man-at-Arms.
15:23 I really should have gotten around to picking that one up.
15:25 It was a nice-looking figure.
15:26 It was one of those cases where it went too long
15:28 and I hadn't yet ordered it.
15:30 And I thought, "Well, even if I order it,
15:31 and let's just say I review it,
15:32 is anybody going to be really all that interested in it?"
15:34 And it just fell at the wayside.
15:36 I never got around.
15:37 I think now a version 2 Man-at-Arms,
15:39 I might just get around to picking that one up.
15:41 But, like, for me, I'm...
15:42 Of the 7-inch scale, at least,
15:43 I'm kind of more interested in the new Eternia stuff.
15:45 Just because, again, like, it's more to a throwback
15:47 of what the original vintage toy is.
15:49 The Revelation and the Revolution, of course,
15:51 does take a lot of the cues from the classic costumes,
15:53 but then they've just done their own spin of it.
15:56 Man-at-Arms ended up being a nice-looking figure,
15:58 whether you decide you want to display, of course,
16:00 the figure with the mace with the ball and chain on the end,
16:02 or if you want to just default it back to the original mace.
16:04 It's a nice-looking figure.
16:06 I think Mattel's done a great job on them.
16:08 As we now move our attention over to the turntable,
16:10 I've got the new Eternia Man-at-Arms
16:12 displayed here with the ball and chain version of the mace,
16:14 which, again, is a simple switch
16:16 of just taking the entire top piece off
16:18 and changing it with the one that comes included
16:20 in the white little bag.
16:21 Unfortunately, though, it does add
16:23 a little bit more heaviness to it.
16:25 You'll notice, though, especially with the arms,
16:27 the shoulders more specifically,
16:28 that they get a little looser trying to have
16:30 the mace extended with the arms straight,
16:32 so I find myself actually bending the elbow
16:34 just to kind of compensate for the fact
16:36 that the mace sticks out a little further
16:38 having the ball and chain on the end of it.
16:40 You can also, of course, store the mace
16:42 on the back of the figure's body,
16:43 which is one of the only two frustrations
16:45 I really have with the figure,
16:46 is that little swinging piece of the back of his torso
16:48 is always falling off.
16:50 Not that it falls off, but every time
16:52 that you're moving the figure around,
16:53 just to bang it by accident,
16:54 you'll find it starts to slide up.
16:56 I would have preferred the route that they went with
16:58 rather than actually gluing it.
17:00 I've got to believe that Mattel is probably
17:01 going to be using this body torso piece again,
17:03 and that's probably one of the reasons
17:04 why they made the clip removable,
17:06 or they also probably did it as well
17:07 that if you just don't want to have the mace
17:09 storage clip on the back of the figure's body,
17:11 you just take it off.
17:12 You're going to be left behind, unfortunately,
17:13 with these little square peg holes,
17:15 but if that doesn't bother you at all,
17:16 you can at least make them
17:17 a little bit more streamlined.
17:19 Speaking of streamlining,
17:20 the only other thing I have concern-wise
17:22 with the figure is the head sculpts.
17:24 Both the head sculpts do come included
17:25 with different versions of the helmet.
17:27 You can either go with
17:28 more modernized New Eternia helmet,
17:29 or if you like the OG look,
17:31 like I like the OG look,
17:32 you can display the figure that way,
17:34 but with the helmet not being softer plastic,
17:36 there is a lot of potential for it
17:38 to scrape away the paint of the head guard underneath.
17:41 It isn't going to be such a big problem
17:43 if you're not going to ever have the figure
17:44 displayed without the helmet.
17:45 I have no plans at all of displaying
17:48 Man-at-Arms without the helmet,
17:49 but if you're one that likes to remove it
17:51 from time to time,
17:52 you may notice a little bit of damage results
17:54 on the top of the head,
17:55 so just be careful.
17:56 Have you guys had the chance yet
17:57 to pick up the New Eternia Man-at-Arms?
17:59 Let me know down below in the comments section.
18:01 While unfortunately, though,
18:02 distribution still sucks here in Canada
18:04 when it comes to new Mo2 stuff,
18:07 luckily I at least found a couple
18:09 of online Canadian sites
18:11 where they are now starting to stock
18:12 some new Master Universe,
18:14 both Origins, New Eternia, and The Revelation,
18:17 so because of that,
18:18 we will be looking at a couple of new figures
18:20 coming up in the upcoming reviews.
18:22 In the meantime,
18:23 if you guys certainly enjoyed this video,
18:24 why not hit it with a like
18:26 if you guys are loving the content
18:27 you guys are seeing
18:28 and you'd like to certainly stick around for more.
18:29 Like I said,
18:30 we are going to be looking at
18:31 some more Master Universe stuff,
18:32 but we are also going to be looking
18:33 at a ton of other things.
18:34 That's the frequency of what ends up
18:36 happening on the channel.
18:37 There's just so much content
18:39 coming on a regular basis,
18:40 well, like two videos a day,
18:41 five days a week.
18:42 That's a lot of content to get through.
18:44 You want to make sure that you're not
18:45 missing out on any of the stuff
18:46 that's popping up on a regular basis.
18:48 As always, guys,
18:49 thanks for watching.
18:50 See you guys next time.
